Dog that sound like chicken
What a lot of BULLSHIT! You idiot! The Basenjis in the Congo and Africa are NOT USED TO HUNT LIONS!! You don’t know anything of this breed that’s for sure!!!! I am a established breeder from Australia an you will only find a vast population of Basenjis in the Congo these days as a majority of them throughout Africa have been bred out by other breeds of dogs. The trouble with Basenji owners in the States is a lot of owners who buy them do it on a impulse purchase because Oh I want a breed like that and a high % of owners in America should not be allowed to buy them as it is not fair to the breed and should only go to homes which are secure and can spend 24/7 commitment to this breed. They are not a novelty and in a lot of cases people have no idea how to train them. It is complex but enjoyable. If people say they have tried everything but failed they should not own a beautiful complex breed of ours. Thank God our Basenji breeders in Australia have a Huge Responsibility deciding who can get one and a high % Don’t! We know this Breed backwards and Love them. As for this guy who posted this video leave our breed alone just talk about other breeds as you know Nothing of our Breed!! Fool!
There is no group of people that calls themselves "pygmies". And they aren't the only people that have groomed and breeded those dogs in West/Central Africa either.
Exactly.
OMG, Calm, Quiet companion??? Hilarious. They are anything but calm and quiet.
No wonder lions numbers are dropping.
Wow! Training a stubborn independent dog to understand sign language! That is very impressive!
Basenjis don't bark because their larynx is actually shaped differently than other dogs. They can yip, howl, growl, "talk," and yes....their yodel is legendary, Its kind of like a rooster crow. They also only come in heat once a year instead of twice like most dogs, and they clean themselves like cats so you cant use many dog products...you have to use cat products so that if they ingest it it wont hurt them. They are smart, loving, very busy, and once you have one, nothing else will quite be the same.
"This dog doesn't bark"... I have s basenji... he won't shut up... but he's adorable!!
Beautiful animal
Check out my basengi dogs on my channel!
2:47 Ian is bored
I grew up with these dogs, and raised my own children with them as well. They CAN be "aloof" on some occasions, such as when they are with people they dont know, if they dont want to have to do something they know they are going to be asked to do, etc.however, this is not a constant and defining trait, and being independent, does not mean unloving or affectionate. They are very loving and and make great family dogs but, they ARE more likely to eat your slippers than bring them to you! (grin)
Throughout many of these videos I hear "reputable dealer", which means FUCK ALL. Give us NAMES of reputable dealers or shut up about it.
If you are looking for a reputable breeder for Basenjis I would suggest going to the Basenji Club of Americas website they are listed there.
My basenji wasnt interested in normal dog toys (rubbery ones) but my grandmother made me a soft doggy toy for Christmas and my basenji liked it and use to carry it around like a puppy.
Everything has its own reason. Though Basemji's dont bark, they have other unique qualities which are awesome :)
basenjis do their own thing. If they don't play with toys, they don't play with toys.
If you work out your basenji will it get buff like a pit?
Why would you want it to get "buff like a pit"??? The answer is NO.
No they are hounds.
My basnenji is almost identical to the ones in this video. VERY independent, strong willed, cant bark, so on and so forth. Only think is we cant seem to house break her like our other dogs. Weve tried EVERYTHING we can think of.
My basenji has all of these qualities, except he barks ferociously, and doesn't yodel. Maybe it's the other breeds he's mixed with?
imma get one in 6months :)
Did you ever get your Basenji puppy??
The handler of this Basenji has never had a Basenji. Wow. Bad facts... lame TV.. Don't get a Basenji... you do not deserve one or know what you are getting in to.
Everyone who coments this video and lives in WA please tell me who the best breeder in WA or at least a good one so I can get a basenji
@EuroStatus1985 They might nip (not bite), out of curiosity or attention seeking with strangers. But, they're not bad with strangers at all. Ours is great with people and smaller animals. We have birds and amazingly he's very restrained about chasing them. He will lunge at them occasionally but, I think that is just an instinctual reaction he has.
My basenji was an escape artist and could climb any fence with ease. They do have a tendency to be very destructive if you don't keep them occupied. A crate would be a good idea if they have to be loft alone
basenjis rule...anyone who disagrees just is not in the know, lol.
@davevontexas OMG! That was hysterical!
lol don't pick it up by its head..
I ended up getting him... I''ve had him since November actually. Boy theu like to bolt like crazy.. anyway I love him. He is doing good and I should have some funny videos of him posted soon.
@hingsberg sending you a message. :D
@shioritakamaru: Likewise. Java was 15-16 until he ran into the terminal health problems and we had to put him down as well. Great GREAT dogs. The whole thing about the forehead wrinkle making them "look worried" is silly and made me giggle. It always made me think of a permanent Puppy Face. Or Curiosity. lol
My basengi Tobi is the best dog in the world and universe
Awesome dogs. What dog is for everyone? Still this breed is as amazing as they get. You will get a fresh personality for sure. I have had two Hooch has passed on but Zelda is alive and has some of Hooch's old behaviors. These dogs are special. These dogs will learn effectively from each other and are very committed pack animals.
I completely agree. I've never had trouble with mine. They are actually my favorite breed. I love how they don't make as much noise (when my last one was a pup she would yodel and it sounded like a baby crying) and how active they are. Love running with them.
I have an opportunity to get a 4 year old Basenji from a lady moving to appartment but my girlfriend thinks it will eat the house up... any comments?
My basenji,Lulu, will tear the house apart like a Tasmanian devil if left alone for a second but the most loving adorable thing you will ever meet. You pick her up and she just melts into you. Loves to be around you but not up your butt. The best dog I've ever had!
Basenji's should be good for you because they shed little to no hair at all.
that's good to know.
They grumble... and some days are too smart.
I had a basenji when I was growing up. He lived to be 20 years old. He was a beautiful dog with quite a character. Those who have them appreciate them for exactly what they are.
They don't bark, but they do "woof" occasionally.
