Indonesia Secret to Sustaining Southeast Asia's Largest Economy
Indonesia Secret to Sustaining Southeast Asia's Largest Economy - Indonesia remains the largest economy in Southeast Asia due to a combination of strategic planning, abundant resources, and a growing population of over 270 million people. Its diverse geography and rich natural resources provide a strong foundation, while the expansion of its manufacturing and services sectors has reduced dependence on oil and gas exports. Key to its economic resilience is the country’s robust domestic consumption, driven by a growing middle class that fuels demand for goods and services.
Investments in infrastructure, education, and technology have diversified Indonesia’s economy, attracting foreign investment and enhancing its global competitiveness. The government’s economic policies, aimed at improving business conditions and increasing foreign direct investment, also play a crucial role. Strong trade relationships with global powers like China, the US, and Japan further strengthen Indonesia’s position in the region. With its continued focus on growth and development, Indonesia is poised to maintain its status as Southeast Asia’s economic leader.

as a Vietnamese, I think we SEAsian nations fighting or competing over a few hundred USD of GDP per capita is ridiculous. Just look at European nations, the gaps between them could be several thousands of USD in GDP per capita. So the fact is, Philippines and Vietnam levels of development are pretty close to each other. It is more important that we built a developed region like Europe, not staying here, feeling better than each other over a several hundred USD of income. The advantage of the Philippines is service and a pretty high value currency. I think Philippines should follow the path of Panama or Irelands, becoming a regional headquarters hub or banks hub, but not manufacturing lịke Vietnam.
