    Thank you for making this video. I always wanted a typewriter as an adult, these were everywhere when I was a kid and didnt even give them a second look. Funny how things change lol. Finally made the plunge and bought one on ebay today, the same model as this one. You said at the end of your video, not sure why you made this, but I'm glad you did as this will help me immensely when mine finally arrives. Thanks so Much! 🥰

    Sixty-one years I’ve been using typewriters. All kinds. Still prefer manual typewriters. When the bombs drop and the lights go out, we can write about how miserable we are until we starve. If we’ve stocked up on paper and ribbon. And water. Can’t type very long without water.

    This man has so much energy to draw, make Mangas and animes while I don't have energy to draw much anymore even though I'm 17.. I feel like im never gonna make my own animation or manga in the future because I don't draw as much as I used to. I liked to draw and make manga as a child I would make tons of it until I started to take digital drawing and then slowly become less and less motivated.

      It's important to find a way early on in your artistic career to focus on your artistic journey without comparing yourself to others, especially the masters. Everyone has their own unique perspective as an artist and it's that feature that will sustain your journey, not being as good as the mangaka to your left. Good luck little friend! Keep doing your best!

    • @sca8217
      @sca8217 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if you're enjoying what you're doing, you should never have to feel burdened by the responsibility of learning to draw. There is no secret. There is no gift. Consistency is the only requirement. You will be consistent if you get enjoyment out of the act of drawing itself rather than solely for the purpose of making manga or learning digital art. Cave paintings were drawn with fingers and pigments. Carvings were done with hammer and chisel. It's as simple as that. Beauty, technique, proportion, anatomy, perspective... All of these will fall in place once you start loving the act of drawing. And to love the act, you need to love what you draw. Comparing your work with works of stalwarts is an easy recipe for failure. SEE what great artists draw. LOVE what you draw. Do not compare

    Congrats on making this video. A couple of things to help you enjoy the machine even more. The scale of the typewriter indicates the spaces on a line. Your typewriter has 10 caracters per inch so 10 on the scale is one inch long and your sheet of paper is 8.5 inch wide or 85 caracters. When moving the carriage to the right, don't pull on the two levers that release the carriage, it is not necessary. The paper can be aligned perfectly by pulling the paper release lever, adjusting the sides of the sheet together and then pushing the lever back. To remove the sheet quickly, pull the paper release lever, grab the sheet and pull it up. The MR key on the right hand side of the keyboard is the Margin Release key that allows you to move the carriage beyond the left or right margins. The lever on the left of the platen is to allow you to turn the platen knob without moving in fixed steps (clicking), thus allowing to type superscript or subscript caracters. Finally, your typewriter has a paper injector lever. Drop the new sheet behind the platen and pull the lever on the carriage with the scale 0 to 12 and the paper will be pulled by 12 half-lines, which equals 1 inch vertically. There are more tips and tricks, like the variable line spacer and the use of the line indicator for re-inserting a sheet to retype in exactly the same alignment vertically and horizontally. Hope this helps. Daniel

      Thanks for the info, I just got a mostly-complete Brother Deluxe, and was wondering what that lever on the right side of the carriage was for: a paper injector! A bit of an excessive feature, but such a snappy machine.

    Hey, I have a Brother Deluxe and it suddenly stopped moving to the right when i'm typing. It is new and it was working but i'am a newbie and was pressing some knobs and now it don't moves. if you want i can make you a video. Thank you!!

    • @AtelierDBurgoyne

      If your margins are set like in this video, make sure the carriage lock lever is pushed back. The carriage lock is a shiny metal lever on the right hand side of the ribbon cover.

    • @Medienmalocher
      @Medienmalocher 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AtelierDBurgoyne thank you for your answer!! I'am pretty sure the carriage lock lever is pushed back. the problem is that the carriage sometimes moves when i type, but most times it moves not and sticks to one position. i put a new ribbon in it and it worked perfectly. then i pushed some buttons and played a little around with it to try everything and since then i doesn't works right anymore :/.

      @@left-to-rightstudios7781 thank your for your answert! i would say the keys seem to work. they are all bunching up. it doesn't seems to be connected to a special key. at the moment i press a key and the carriage moves further but for the next keys i presss i doens't moves anymore.

    Ya know, it's not really obvious where in the video you cover it, a time would be cool, just spool to it. And, I have a Brother Deluxe not much different than this. Made in 1987.

    • @AtelierDBurgoyne
      @AtelierDBurgoyne 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Move the carriage to the position where you want to add a new tab. Push on the S of the left hand button to SET the tab. Done. To remove that tab, move the carriage to the place where the tab is and press on the C of the same button to CLEAR that tab. If you want to clear all tabs, move the carriage to the far left. Move the carriage to the right while holding the C button down.

    Zero! Show how to set TABS and who cares about the ribbon! I have one which MAY have a mechanical issue, but don't know how one sets the TAB on it with the CR switch. Does it involve using another key? Thanks.

    • @left-to-rightstudios7781
      @left-to-rightstudios7781 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rosemary. We do go over how to set tabs with this video. If you watch the "Formatting Your Type" section, we go over how to set tabs in that section. I have to show how to put the ribbon in because many young people have never seen or used a typewriter before, and therefor will need to know how to feed the ribbon through. Please make sure you are using a Brother Deluxe typewriter, as some functions may be specific to that type of typewriter.

    Incredibly useful. I didn't wanna ruin my eyes staring at computer to write my essay, btw any idea how to get one of these I am using my grandpa's and its horribly loud and using it in a school dorm is way too hard. Whats your model number for the typewriter

    • @left-to-rightstudios7781
      @left-to-rightstudios7781 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't suggest getting this version, but looking instead for portable typewriters. This one is also portable, but it's way too loud to be using in dorms. You want a type writer that is about 50% smaller for something like that. I have found four typewriters at Value Village, but it takes some looking and some luck. You can buy new ones online as well.

    Not sure if I'm looking into this too much but in Japanese culture it is more within the culture to downplay your talent. It's considered good to show humility. Which may be why Tezuka says he can't draw.

    • @left-to-rightstudios7781
      @left-to-rightstudios7781 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      While it's no secret that Japan has a prevalent work culture and sense of humility, it's much more likely that he experiences a deep rooted sense of self-criticism that applies to every artistic field.

I guess he knows what he draws is not of at full potential? Oh how much I wish to see what he thought of as a perfect creation in his mind.
