The first version and only until.50.years later, was by Ronnie Hilton, an English cabaret and radio singer of 1950s fame.Took me years to find the English.translation of Portugese ..as.l believe means "Gift" lovely lyric to remind that love, or amor, is indeed a gift.Over 50 years never forgot Melody line or lyrics.,l.love the music of Jobim, but this is lovely tune, just like " O Barquino/ Little Boat first heard in 1966, by Laurindo Almeida
The very first version of Recado Bossa Nova was done in 1959 by a Brazilian singer named Miltinho, followed by a more popular version done by Carmelia Alves a couple of months later. It was Maysa's version, released in June of that year, that became a huge hit in Brazil.
A wonderful version of a great yet often overlooked tune - love this as much as Hank Mobley's version. Must keep an eye open for Lexingtone :)
