Hello John! Great unboxing! Happy Holidays.
You too David!
What’s the small number at the top center ?
APBA soccer is decent and a new game Inside The Net ( Inside Pitch creator) is very good but both take some time on the tabletop. Inside the Net has a computer version as well that speeds things up a little
Internet Baseball League offers Pursue the Pennant and is FREE.
What is ball score and ball stats you mention at 7:50?
Buy the sleeves I use pro safe sleeves 3 x 4 top loaders and put the cards in sideways. By 110lb Cardstock. or buy DDBB online tey have every season of Statis Pro and they also sell Beckner's version separately including L-R Split.
Wow. Rewatching again and I never realized till now that the Sacrifice Bunt on the FAC tells you the fielder…beautiful!!! That’s why I watch videos on my hinge I think I already know. I never know what I’ve missed and been doing wrong.
Following up on my initial post since it was the day after my first Payoff Pitch game. I got to save that I’m loving it! I love the FACs as well. I can’t believe I prefer the FACs but I do for several reason. The quality of the cards, less chart lookups, and the efficiency. I do sometimes use dice still. I’ll also sometimes use dice for one team and FACs for the other. Which also would’ve bothered me had you told me beforehand that someone was doing that. Lol. I can’t believe I’ve only been playing this for a month. I’ve played more games in this month than I’ve ever played of another game in a month. Anyway, thanks again for the video John!
I've been playing a 2020 full what-if-covid-never-happened season for about 3 years now, keeping stats on a spreadsheet I created. I watched this and seriously thought about transferring all 750 games played so far into BallStat and playing the rest of the games with these tools. However, after entering only two games, the database has already screwed up - Kenta Maeda's pitching stats for the Twins are on the reports under Max Kepler. I double and triple checked the BallScore game record and Maeda is definitely in at SP. I have no idea what happened here and have no idea how to correct it. This tool seems like a fantastic way to eliminate human error in collecting stats for 30 teams across 2400 plus games, but if it has irreversable mistakes after only 2 games, it's not worth it.
Have you checked out Shoot-Out Hockey? Great game. Can play a game with stats in about 10 minutes.
What I’ve done, John, is made a separate Facebook profile just for gaming. I hardly go on my other profile anymore
@@mid_life_crisis13 I did this before. But I think I solved it after I did this video by creating a page. Same idea. It’s not my personal login. It’s one for the website. So instead of a group, it’s a page. Website posts directly there for me and I get notices when someone likes or comments. It’s perfect.
Thanks for the vid! Good idea on getting off of social media. I got off several years ago and a couple of years ago I added Facebook only to see pics of my grandson. But I only am Facebook friends with family and only follow sports board gaming stuff. I’m wanting to learn soccer too. I’m interested in APBA soccer. I want to do with soccer what you did with the Preds to learn it’s history. I think you said you replayed every Preds season to learn it. I want to do that with the Nashville Soccer club. But I know so little about soccer I’m not even sure I could play. Lol. I’m just trying to figure out when MLS started in Nashville and what games have MLS for that season so I can replay it. Finally, I too am more into the express and basic versions of games lately. I’m really enjoying that. Except I’ve taken on APBA Baseball Master Game. Apart from that nothing else is super advanced/master level. Just advanced or a hybrid between advanced and basic. Good luck with the new site. It looks nice.
Thanks for the update John.
I’m seriously thinking of springing for TH-cam Premium until after the election just to avoid all of the political ads that make me want to barf. I enjoy your channel, John. 👍
I bought TH-cam Premium a couple years ago. Money well spent each month. Love it!
@@AvenrootI just saw a promotion for 2 months free that I may jump on.
Love the comments on the election! So annoying that the truth is so hard to grasp😀
Played my first game of POP yesterday. I kept forgetting to turn the batter card to the next hitter because I was focused on the FACs. After 35 years of dice FACs are such a different feel. But I do like having less chart look ups. Also, I used the PDFs that I printed off of my machine in black in white. I think I’ll like the game and FACs better once I get the ones I ordered from the company. The quality of the cards and components make a huge difference to me.
Thank you
Loved your video on setting up a replay. May I suggest RONBO's tools for replays. I specifically use the sheets that tell if a player was available for a specific game, and also the appearance by innings for relief pitchers. It gives me an insight on what pitchers a specific manager had a tendency to use in certain situations.
The lefty/righty splits are better than basic but it still drives me nuts that home runs aren't really affected much by the splits. It's the "Ryan Klesko" problem.
The PC version of Strat contains all players even those who receive no card.
Let's say Clemens had 5 bad outings in 35 starts IRL, they might have been scattered throughout the season. But you can't control how that shakes down on the tabletop and if the dice crammed 5 bad outings into his first 8 starts of a replay, I can see where some might want to abandon the project at that point.
The ultimate "that could never happen in real life game" happened when the 1983-84 Edmonton Oilers (57 wins, Cup champs) lost 11-0 to the Hartford Whalers (28 wins). Granted, Gretzky and Kurri were out of the lineup which could account for the 0 goals scored but still, how does that team allow 11 goals? If this happened on the tabletop in one of your first games with a new game you just purchased, how many would give up on the game as being unrealistic?
As an orioles fan the Indians broke my heart that season
Yeah that had to hurt. Been on the side of that hurt way too many times as an Indians fan.
9:44 Thornton around mid-season had just started playing everyday. He’ll get his numbers.
Thanks for the in-depth review of this new game. That box (an extra $15) is also designed to hold the original game, History Maker Hoops, which is a short play game. Also, the "final minute" portion of your "Prime Time" version of the game can be used if the teams are within four points of each other at that juncture of the contest. Love your theory about a "sim the game for three quarters" and play out the "prime time" minutes of the fourth quarter. Enjoy! 🏀
Thanks for the review. Great job with the stat keeping, too! Picking a season/set of cards will be my biggest challenge with this game. That group of all-time all-star teams looks like fun but I'm concerned that there will be too many good players in that "dream team league" as opposed to an "actual league" with a combination of good, average and bad players. Also love the Mr. Red hoodie, John. Go Reds! 🏀
John started whatching your channel really enjoying it. Waiting on playoff pitch baseball to come the postal service lost my game so when I get it I will be ready to play. Keep up the cool channel.
Thank you!!
Nice effort on your comparison. My only issue is Payoff Pitch starting on the pitcher’s card. No lefty righty splits and only one column of outcomes 17:06 . Gets a little repetitive ….
Good recap...
Just for a little more data for you, I have played three games so far, I am at halftime of my fourth game, and I am seeing a decent distribution of offensive rebounds. For the two games that I have stats accessible to me right now, one game had a team with 17 ORB, while the other team had 10, the other game there were fewer but it was 11/9. This is within current NBA rates. This was with the BLAM fictional set.
I love the dice rolling app on your phone. What app is that?
Dice Bag
I actually would consider the 1977 Red Sox superior to the 1986 Red Sox. The '86 Sox had no bench and no bullpen. The '77 Sox had a terrifying offense, a better bench, and Bill Campbell in the bullpen, who was an absolute workhorse. On the surface, the 1977 Red Sox pitching looks terrible, but that's largely because Fenway Park played as an extreme hitter's park that season. The Red Sox' home ERA was 4.72, but their road ERA was 3.59, which was actually the best road ERA in the league that season. I also believe the 1977 Red Sox were a little better than the pennant-winning 1975 Sox.
Good review, John, thanks!
Where can you get Marino boards?
Great video discussion John. My story is very similar to yours but I've always been an APBA guy. Never tried any others and have no desire to do so. Well, back in the day I did have Sher-Co as a 2nd game which was also a lot of fun but more fun to play head to head. I'm strictly solo now. Have you ever considered coming to the APBA Convention? I'll be attending my 3rd next month and it's a fantastic experience. I wish I had gone sooner but don't plan on missing any more. I enjoy the tournament, but more so meeting the community and John Herson. Visiting the APBA store to see how it works is a must for any APBA fan. You're right that he has a couple ladies that work in the store with him. They handle the orders and shipping mostly. I agree their customer service is lacking in the communication department, but they do always take care of the issue even if they don't respond to the email. Anyway, give it some thought and make the trip one day. It would be great to meet you in person. I'm a big fan of your replays and videos. Thank you and stay well!
John, thank you for your review of Highlight Maker Hoops: Primetime. I enjoyed your comments and observations after your first game. I am anxious to hear your comments after you play additional games. You commented near the end about wishing you could play a faster version for the first three quarters and then use Primetime for the final quarter of play. That could be done if you play Highlight Maker Hoops for the first three quarters and then use Primetime for the last.
I have to take a look at that
Travis Jensen stated on the Facebook PLAAY Games forum that this game plays in between 90 minutes and two hours after you learn the ropes. He also stated that you can't find a possession-by-possession pro basketball cards & dice game that plays in less than 90 minutes when keeping full stats. This is simply not true: Mark Vecellio's HOOPS from ASG Games, and Replay Basketball are two C&D full-play basketball games that take well under 90 minutes to complete once you learn them. I can play either of those, keeping full stats, in 60-70 minutes. Keith Avallone is a great game inventor -- a giant in this hobby, a genius at game creation who also excels at customer service. His Second Season football game is the best tabletop football game I have ever played. So I'd never denigrate any of his products. But there ARE basketball games that play faster than 90 minutes, even though his game-tester has stated otherwise.
Thanks for the review John!
You bet!
I think the lightning status occurs on put backs from offensive rebounds. On the dice roll it one of the results. As far as lack of offensive rebounds it is because there are so many great rebounders on the all time great teams.
I'll have to read up on it. But shouldn't the "great players" on the offensive side be amazing OR?? I don't know. Not a deal breaker for me, just thought it was interesting.
Great chat John. Growing up in Lancaster, PA, going to the APBA store and getting my cards is a great memory...the good ol' days 😃
Very cool! Always wanted to do that, had several chances and something always came up.
Thanks for sharing. Your beginning was very touching about the families of military personnel. It was quite true and on the mark.
Thank you sir!
Thank you and all who payed the price for our freedom to do this and many other things in life and have a good memorial day and always remember what the day is for!!!

Got my streaming issues worked out and finished the video. Very nice. I think sooner than later I’ll have to go to the Marino boards for APBA baseball. I’m on a basic kick lately but APBA baseball is a little too basic for me. One thing I’m realizing is that APBA is less individual focused and more team focused. For example the hockey ODAI and the way football and baseball factor in defense. I’m planning to use APBA for my longer projects and when I care more about team stats versus individual stats. Strat will always be my SADV game when I want granular detail because I’ve spent 20 years plus playing it and have a lot of the charts and procedures and results memorized so it flows really well for me.
The Marino boards are a must. If you have the basic mastered the Marino boards add the little extra of the master game to make it more realistic. No more 40 errors by the 2B! Pitchers who don’t give up as many Dingers won’t. L/R comes into play. Took me about an hour to get it down and so worth it. I’m not even picking up the new games I bought this week!
Really enjoy your channel. Especially since you are a fellow Preds fan and live in Nashville too. I like the Browns too but not to your level! I grew up in Kentucky and always kinda liked the Browns. Then when Tim Couch went there they became my favorite team. Hate the way his career went. I stilll like the Browns but they are a close second to the Titans. Im having issues watching videos on my phone so I haven’t been able to watch all of this video but im looking forward to it
Thanks Kevin. Tim Couch! I was so sure he was going to be the guy, I named my cat after him at the time. Had he and Rothlisberger had their fates switched, no one would have heard of Big Ben and it would be Couch going into HOF. Just had no support in Cleveland.
@@ReplayFanatic100% agree.
Hi John, I enjoyed the video. We have similar stories: I played as a kid, then recently came back after 45+ years, I'm 57, and I was in the military. I've recorded a few videos with my 12 year old son, reviews of games that we had just finished. I'm thinking about doing a full-blown channel dedicated to Baseball Replay like you and others that I've seen. I hope you don't mind a few questions regarding starting a TH-cam channel. Should I create a completely new Google/Gmail account dedicated to my channel, or can you setup a new TH-cam channel connected to an existing Google/Gmail account? So this would be one Gmail account that has multiple TH-cam channels. I can research this, but if you know off the top of your head...🙂 Any advice for a newbie TH-cam channel? I don't have any fancy equipment, it will probably be shot on my iPhone. I also don't have any screensharing software where I can record what is on my screen like Ron Juckett and Dave Gardner do, among others. Is there software that you recommend? Maybe there's something built right in to TH-cam. I'm sorry to hear about your health issues, I hope you are doing well now. Thanks, John!
I really enjoyed your videos with your son. My oldest used to play some of these games with me and I cherish those memories! He passed much too young at 19 in 2020. Your sons enthusiasm reminds me of him. My youngest and I play now but he only likes one game (Title Bout 2 Boxing). Good times! I’ll be on the lookout for your channel.
@@bigrevkev55Thanks so much for the kind reply. I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your son. It sounds like you love him very much. I will keep you all in my prayers. I will start watching TH-cam channel "how to" videos, and see if I can get something off the ground soon. It will probably start of bare bones like my videos with my son, and then hopefully improve from there. There's my 12 year old son, and my 9 year old daughter, so it's not like I have loads of time to devote to this. We have a large family, 9 kids! We still have 4 living at home. I'll be sure to let everyone know if/when I post a video. 😃
@@tomabbott96539 kids!!! I have 4 and that keeps us very busy!
@@bigrevkev55 I went ahead and started a new channel, Replay Dugout, @replaydugout, and posted my first video. Nothing fancy, but I'm going to work on it little by little.
Hello sir. On your questions. E-mail - i use the one I've always had. On software, I use StreamYard. I believe Dave & Ron do as well I noticed. Great piece of software to help you manage your videos and get setup. On the advice, be you - and get a decent camera. I have one - but i've noticed It doesn't setup like I would like, nor does it zoom in like I would like. So eventually I'll move to that. My PC is also giving me problems lately and will likely replace that. All that I believe is probably needed if you want to stream to people well. You'll also need a good internet provider, which i have AT&T Fiber. Hope that helps, best of luck!!
Good morning John , I really enjoy your channel . I have ? For you about POP . On FAC cards out section what does GB - DP A mean and GB - DP A, B. I can not find in rules and haven’t been able to find on a replay video . I have just played it as a DP. Thank you Noble Pearcy
Hi Noble, welcome to the channel. The DP A, B means if the player in question (has a range of A or B) it's a double play. Otherwise it's a fielder's choice if not the 3rd out. Hope that helps.
What branch of the service were you in? I'm around your age and joined the AF right after high school in 1983. We had a Strat-o-matic league at McGuire AFB in the summer of 1989 and an APBA Football League during the winter of 1990.
Griffiss, Comiso, McGuire
I was in the AF as well. The time I was talking about was at Mildenhall AFB, UK. I spent time at Wright-Pat, Mildenhall, Plattsburgh and Andersen. But since I was on a lot of travel teams for 3 different sports, I visited almost every single base including the ones you listed.
I enjoyed hearing about your journey. John, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks John! Great story. Happy rolling.
Thanks for listening
