Mountain farming and pastoralism are the main livelihoods for many mountain communities, with sustainable practices passed down through generations.
Traditional ways of life are meeting modern challenges, with communities adapting to changing climates and other global pressures through a blend of local knowledge and new strategies.
Protected and conserved areas are vital for preserving biological and cultural diversity.
Mountain people and their environment are deeply interdependent, with their cultural heritage rooted in the landscape. Traditional knowledge is crucial for fostering resilience.
Empowering local communities through partnerships and capacity development; improving access to information and development services; strengthening co-management and good governance in parks; and promoting responsible and sustainable tourism… these are just some of the ways that Plateau Perspectives* support Sustainable Mountain Development.
Standing with mountain peoples to protect their natural and cultural heritages brings not only global benefits… it is also the right thing to do.
