A nostalgic view of Acton and some other London pics as well. The song is my version of Cream's White Room which was recorded on a laptop using NI Bandstand, Mixcraft, line 6 toneport GX,a Shure mic and a Telecaster guitar.....Took about a day to do including the editing in Windows Movie Maker.........Enjoy!
I was born in Park Royal hospital 1948, lived on Birkbeck Avenue, Acton when family moved up north. Went to Derwentwater infants and primary school, then The Elms secondary. Remember Tony's ice cream parlour on Churchfield Road, what happened to that. Dad drove for Davies shopfitting then Walls ice cream. Great times in the 50's growing up there.
Lived in Acton 50s-70s. Near fire station. Great memories of king street and the Edens. The market, cinemas and swimming baths.
I grew up in Acton in the 60s and seventies lived in park road north and did my apprenticeship at marilyn's hairdressers on Crown Street. We had some laughs there but by god did we have to work hard. Went to Twyford school. I have good memories of it.
Born in Churchfield road in '54 & went to Derwentwater and Twyford school. Left Twyford in '69. A wonderful area back then with great parks and cinemas and lots to do for young people. Accidentally attended John Entwhistles wedding at the church on Churchfield road.
My family live on Churchfeild Road in the late sixties early sevties and went to Twyford school for about three years
Oh yes, and we also had a newsagents on Churchfield Road, the Indian Restaurant is still on the corner, as is the launderette further down the road towards Acton Central Station, whose shop sign has never changed and is still the same as it was in the 80s.
This was so amazing to watch, thank you for uploading ❤️ I lived on Derwentwater Road and went to Derwentwater Primary School, does anyone remember Woolworths, which is now The Belvedere and the market, which had a Wimpy, where KFC is now, next to The Oaks entrance. My parents were married at the Town Hall in 1979 and went to the McDonald's afterwards 😊
We Lived on Churchfeild Road back in the 60 early 70 s went too Twyford School played Football for the School Team there was a Mr Parker over all the teams back then good old days
Not around then but still filling in and keeping up
My Nan and Grandads home shown in this , the house by the sewage works. Many happy memories, in particular Guy Fawkes night there for the workers!
I ran the shoe menders in the high street from 1974 to about 1979, returning again a few years later. I also did youth work down behind CAV for many years. Interesting choice of music as of course, Ginger Baker had a studio right near our Scout Hut for many years and we often used to hear him playing. I also lived at Acton House from 1987 to 1992.
wonderful memories of my childhood playing in acton park going to the odeon and granada swimming in acton pools being a member of the chiswick social catching a train to richmond for ice skating even showing loftus road qpr football stadium wish there was more. brings a tear to my eyes , thankyou
Pearls chip shop ,Think her husband's name was Bob from the end of the sixtys through to the eghties our family from Fulham used it most Fridays ,we sat in very posh ,heated pipes under the marble tables with wax cloth on in the winter ,power cuts with the car lamp and car battery, his racing pigeons pictures on the wall ,Rock and chips ,The sign saying FISH AND CHIP PLATES ONLY,And when it closed it was used as a film location, plus Thier son ran a rehearsal studio in the basement which me and the band I was in at the time used ,very happy memories 🍀🇬🇧👍🏼
I was born in Acton Green 1936. Lived there till 1965 when we moved out work wise, done my national service whilst there, often think the youth today could benefit doing two years in national service, , nice to see these old videos, lovely memories thank you.
A very random collection of pictures! I used to live on Acton Lane, behind the swimming pool, on the E3 route to Chiswick.
N..the white room's with blk curtains the sun's is'nt shining.. good byes window's at..the station.. Who is playing this version of white room? It’s terrific
Cream
The beauty of these images lies in the sense of bygone reality they radiate, and the song sounds more authentic than the popular version I know ! 👍
Nice photos.Terrible cover of white room.Man sounds like a nonce.
what a dump
Great memories.I used to live in Acton Nurses Home on Gunnesbury Lane and travel to Hammersmith Hospital on the number 7 bus every day from 1980 to 1984.

A great cover of the White room song. A great set of photo's too. Thanks for sharing
Sadly a dump now like a lot of London. Great times growing up in Shepherd's Bush now ruined by overcrowding and being too commercialised and real lack of character and locality.
I live in Acton now and love it - it's funky and diverse and just a little bit run-down, but I wouldn't live anywhere else. It was great to see all the old photos of it, but I was mystified by the shots of Piccadilly Circus (okay, you do say "and London") and then, at 2:57... the Annandale Advocate? Is that guy from Acton? Some of the shots look a bit anonymous - here's a house, then another house - and there seem a lot of the Chiswick club Society but still...nicely done, and nice version of White Room, too.
Adam Kimmel Cheers Adam.I'd forgotten all about this video.I grew up there in the 60's -80's and a frequent visitor to this day..I've seen a lot of changes. The photos are based around Acton and surrounding areas, places I used to go to.I'd run out of Acton pics to fit the song,so I filled it in with a few extras, including me in that Annandale post clip. Thanks for your comment/M
It's ever-changing. When I moved to Acton 10 years ago, it reminded me a bit of NYC in the late 70s - run-down and dirty, but with an ineffable buzz. Now it's doing its best, with coffee shops along Churchfield Road, even a wine bar (although the High Street is still all fast-food and pay-day loans). The danger is from our own council, who seem intent on burying us under high-rise "exclusive" flats. It's a long way from Acton to Minnesota, though...
When I ran the shoe menders in the 1970's it was a very old town, with LOTS of Polish emigres who'd served the UK in the war and had now settled here. It was very much the forgotten part of Ealing and we used to speculate about what would happen if this shop closed down or that shop shut. The biggie was of course, the Co-Op which was a department store.
Very poignant photos!
oh man i've just seen your kingston town cover and wow you've so much better!! congrats man, greetings from chile!
This karaoke backing great singing though 👍
well done! thank you ;-)
Thanks for these.
Great video!
I grew up in Acton during the 1960's and 1970's. Great memories from these photos.
+Barbara A I lived there in that period and also have good memories. It has changed quite a bit in recent years have you been back?
I lived in Acton Vale flats for about six years from 1950. I have mixed feelings about those years, but this video brought back a lot of nostalgia. I especially enjoyed seeing the good old 607, the Odeon and the Granada. Thank you!

Luved this short clip....lots of fleeting memories of growing up during 60's through to present day....sat morning pictures at the odeon cinema...there was one of a green coloured interior of a fish n chip shop i used to go to when at faraday high....the best fish n chips ever....gone now! I rember acton park had an adventure playground with ropes to swing on in trees...does anyone else remember that?...it wud never get past health and saftey these days....i cud go on...lol
Glen Pereira I went to Faraday high school back in the 70’s, I remember bunking off and mucking about in Acton Park, and being hailed by the truancy officer, we ran off leaving her shouting boys, come back boys! Hahaha how we chuckled I lived up in North Acton and walked to and from school most days. I bet it has changed a great deal since then?
I lived there in Bromyard avenue in 71 to 73. Only went to John Perryn juniors. I remember the adventure playground in Acton Park. Had to climb up the tree by big nails, stand on a small wood platform, hold the rope and jump and sit on a huge knot. Also two ropes, one to stand on and one to hang onto above your head. I did it once and never again Aged 9.
I lived in Birkbeck Grove through the 60's and 70's, definatly remember going to Sat morning pics at the Odeon and the Granada.........remember that green chip shop too, went to Faraday until 74, Bomber Mead i think was headmaster and Miss Leather head mistress........good memories.
