A random selection of audio and video clips, pulled from old Reel-to-Reels tapes, Cassette tapes and VHS tapes.
Another Audio Postcard from Australia - Dated June 1971 (Reel 2, Track 1)
This is the second of several small reel-to-reel tapes I have, in which Tony, Viv and their daughter Alison are sending messages back from Australia, to Peter and Ivy in the UK.
By this time they have realised they can record 4 different audio tracks onto a single 3” reel, at the lowest speed of 1 7/8. What I don’t know, is if all four tracks were recorded at same time, or what order they should be played in. I have nominally called them Tracks 1-4, but my order will almost certainly be wrong. In each case I will try to identify the year, at the very least, from what has been said.
This time the messages are much less raucous, compared with the first 1966 reel, and seem to focus more on their day-to-day lives.
(In this case they have used one of the classic Scotch ‘One Five Special’ reels, which were marketed for this purpose of international messaging. For some reason there are many splices on the tape itself - many of which needed to be repaired, because the adhesive had dried out).

Voices from the Past......
มุมมอง 904 ปีที่แล้ว
I found this on the end of a reel-to-reel tape, which contained other stuff which would date it somewhere between the mid-1960s and the mid-1970s. I wonder if ‘Peter’ and ‘Deborah’ are still alive, and if they remember being asked to talk into a microphone by someone, whilst playing in the park? Initially I thought the address might be 16 Wadham Avenue, in Walthamstow, East London. But based on...
Forest School (Winnersh) - 24h Musathon c.1985
มุมมอง 1054 ปีที่แล้ว
Sometime during 1985, I think it was, the Forest School (Winnersh) Sixth Form decided to organise a 24 hour charity ‘Musathon’ event. Most of the acts were drawn from the school pupils and teachers, some of whom turned out to be more talented than most of us had realised. I’m not sure who came up with the idea, but Mr Norris (Pengy) kindly let us use the Sixth Form Centre to host the event. I s...
BBC2 Ident, Programme Trailer and Listing for Following Day (1993)
มุมมอง 2.3K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Sometimes it is the mundane stuff which is interesting to look back at...... Here is a short extract from an old VHS tape, in good old 4:3 aspect ratio, which was used to record BBC2 on the 16th of April, 1993. It includes: 1) One of the many great BBC2 idents (the one with the speaker and wooden ‘2’), followed by... 2) A trailer for the following programme: Arena - Tales Of Rock ‘n’ Roll (Pegg...
Top Gear (Series 35, March 1996)
มุมมอง 29K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This episode of Top Gear was broadcast on BBC2 on the 21st of March, 1996, according to the Radio Times Genome website. I am uploading my VHS copy, just in case the original copy no longer exists anywhere else. This episode includes: Quentin Willson looking at the HMC Mk lV (a replica Austin-Healey 3000) Jeremy Clarkson and Andy Wilman having a go at siamese banger racing Jon Bentley comparing ...
TV Programme about the Coombes Infant School - 1995
มุมมอง 1.1K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a TV programme about the Coombes Infant School, in Arborfield. I was a pupil at this school in the early 1970’s, so it was great to see the then Head Teacher, Sue Humphries, and my old teacher Carol Cooke. Sue Humphries established and then developed the school over many many years, and her determination and commitment to children’s education was astonishing. Back in the early years, wh...
British TV Adverts From 2003 (Rugby World Cup)
มุมมอง 1.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is my first real attempt at video editing, having converted an old VHS tape to digital video, using a capture device. This is all of the TV adverts which were shown during the 2003 Rugby World Cup, in Australia, which was broadcast on British TV, on the ITV channel. Uploaded for posterity, and the amusement of those looking back at 2003. The list of advertisements is as follows: 1) Guinnes...

Answerphone Messages from c.1960
มุมมอง 2.6K9 ปีที่แล้ว
This very early c.1960 answer-phone (actually an 'Ansafone') was found in the bottom of a cupboard in my Granny’s house, in 2005. It was used by my Grandpa at his London office. This 1/4 inch recording tape inside contains many recorded messages from when it was in use. Some of these must be pre-1971 as they make reference to costs/payments in pre-decimalisation terms. Most are cloth orders fro...
Great stuff, thanks. I haven't heard much of what John was playing in the early-70's . Nice track by John Fahey at 55min12.
Wonderful time capsule
Clarkson played the fool back then too I see
Steven Berry!!!🤢🤮🤮🤢
"...would set you back £40,000, for which you could also have 3 Mazda MX5s, 2 MGFs and the very best Austin Healey". Sadly you couldn't anymore. A good spec runner Austin Healey 3000 today would cost you between 50-80 grand depending on condition.
£40k in 1996 is the equivalent of £78k in today's money. MX-5 in 2023 is £25k. You'd be able to get three and £3k left over.
The discman in the headrest cracked me up
A gem from a golden era. Cheers for uploading, much appreciated ✌😎
Quite a chance the recording is unique. Not every broadcast was archived in the BBC vaults, so they may be interested to know you've got this copy.
The fact that ANYTHING survives, let alone in this quality, is amazing.
Thank you for uploading this old video
The Renault looked a lot like a megan scenic
I didn’t know they used Jessica back in the day.
That Renault hybrid was junk.
Dear Jim can you fix it for me..............Oh dear BBC. Oh dear!
I remember this episode when it was new!
6:55 and then the guy we all know appears
“We three blokes from bbc twoooooooo”
That intro animation aged really well.
The HNC is so fast, it blew your hair off.
I didn't know Andy Willman was a presenter back in the day!
10.35...oops...🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

RIP Neil Peart.

Ahhh, old, old Top Gear!
Greate thanks Tony.
Consul GT!
Quentin Wilson in Jeans ? Didn't see that coming 🙈🙊🙉
4:15 This sound is from the 2005 CBBC ident.
Mr Wilman.
Great car reviews. But I want to see how fast The Stig can get it around the eboladrome.
That hybrid Renault towards the end really did end up being the future. I would've just ignored this segment back in the day and dismissed it as nonsense. lol.
They wasted so much money this tech it had to be sold for a while. E.V's are not a good investment. :/
Minus those nan breads they call wheels on it 😅
Interesting, for those curious Mott The Hoople get airplay as well as the Pure Prarie League. Enjoy
The news is as tragic as it is today. Except now everyone is to scared to strike, so just take all the put ons of management. But music awesome!!! I love the tone of John Peel's voice. A music crusader. 🎶💕👍
JHC these early TopGears were dull.
Pre - Clarkson equalls dull 😑
@@colinstewart1432 Clarkson is on this though?
@@Mooselover1011 true 👍
But the controls fall easily to hand, they always said.
Thank you for uploading. You can never have enough old top gear online.

Hi Toothy, I copied the link to this video for The TV Room team to see. Announcer Reg Sanders, who is announcing, replied back. I stated twice the credit for the upload goes to you and I feel bad that you are not getting the right attention for that. Here's a link to the Tweet if you wish to see it: twitter.com/DavidCRadio/status/1331586432192876545
Thanks for this. Do you have anymore Peel shows?
Great sting followed by a great trailer, so glad to have found another trailer of my favourite Arena mini series.
Love those days G7KWH
Wow! Incredible find!
