    A pvp with a ranked system that ranges from white belt to black belt and beyond would be badass

    A lot of older games in the xbox/ ps2 era had dynamic blocking. Enter the Matrix, Jet Li Rise to Honor, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Dead or Alive, Shenmue......even a few ps1 games like Kensei Sacred Fist.

    I agree with most of what you said, but you're gravely mistaken if you think this is about "legacy" at all. NO ONE ever wanted rage, rage art, rage drive, heat, chip damage and so on. For most of it's life, Tekken fans gloated about how all mechanics like these had no place in Tekken. Then the devs went in, did whatever the fuck they wanted with the franchise, people cried a little bit and then went back to being Harada's bootlickers. They don't change these things because they don't want to. And they don't want to because Tekken is a cash grab, has always been and will always be. I'm so glad I left this game behind

    "tekken is a 2D game in a 3D world". Never quite thought about this take this way until you said it. While I do agree it's a little dated and a little wonky/unintuitive, i feel like if they sort out some of the wonkiness, what you have is a movement system that, while not as freeing as an 8-way run, is great at enabling skill expression and is tailor made for the "2D in 3D" thing. P.s. im open to be corrected but i see a lot of people say tekken 4 had an 8 way run which it didn't. It was the first game to introduce the side walk in place of the sidestep, and it was as intuitive as the examples you showed. I'm certain tekken 4's downfall came down to things like the stages being uneven, some characters being unrecognisable from their more known origins (Jin is a great example of this) and the fact that the game was almost too realistic for what the audience was used to (little to no juggles, silly characters and plot points to a minimum). As such, they went back to the prior formula and never looked back

    TBH! Namco dropped the ball! I was expecting this fidelity from T8!!!!! When they showed Jin and that dark moody rain volcano whatever! But then we just got the same old same old when T8 released!!! Nice of Sega to kick Namco in the balls!!! BUT Namco couldve and shouldve done this! I was expecting them to do this!!! Namco are in a winning position! Now Namco will be miles behind! Will take Namco ages to leave their popular niche behind! Namco has embraced the over the top anime look! Sega now has realism ALL to itself! Namco will take ages just to redesign the characters and the systems!! I mean Namco had the right idea with T4!!!! which was muted and more realistic! This is exciting! And im not really a fan of VF! apart from 1 and 2 but Tekken took over

    I feel like if they did add a pvp mode, they could’ve at least had it built like the 1v1 duels in For Honor or Absolver. They could’ve went for that or at least make it like some sort of battle Royal-like mode. Either way, that’s what could’ve saved the game instead of just keeping it as a repetitive PvE. This game was beautiful in every way with gameplay, graphics, character designs, etc…but they left out so much potential.

    Big corporation saw what happened with classical fighting games, skill based gameplay scares common people and making sell low. Street fighter is now having head aches, how to not drive away fans and bring new people in. Thats why they making games easier and easier. This problem is not unique to fighting games, many shooters were ruined by same idea of attracting new casual players. Any of that didn't work out, casual player have memory of a fish, hardcore player don't have interest in simple systems.

    I’ve been dreaming of this game since street fighter 2. Mortal Kombat needs dynamic blocking more than any game. Tekken as well. I’d be happy if SF6 just reverted to third strike parries.

    Like others already said, visual clarity is the reason. When things like crouch state, sidestepping, forward/back dashing, counters/parries exist, if you add all these animations it makes it much more confusing to analyze what your opponent is actually doing

  • @2HatHudders
    @2HatHudders หลายเดือนก่อน

    It took so long because animation and collision detection is some of the hardest things ever! Also, traditionally VF was always the leader in anitmation. Tekken 3 brought namco back in the game. However no further improvements since vf5.

  • @vj7248
    @vj7248 หลายเดือนก่อน

    not every game needs this, SF6 doesnt need realistic defense. and in fact, having dynamic guarding could result in an issue of visual clarity of whats even going on. however in the context of Virtua Fighter its perfect. VF has always been about pushing dynamic animation, and also having more of a defensive focus. and again in contrast, Tekken being super game-y with 'broken' animations like the Korean Back Dash or stiff blocking... honestly i hope it stays that way, let Virtua Fighter be Realistic & Tekken be Arcadey. its better that games stay different rather than all become samey.

    • @ComboDamageTV
      @ComboDamageTV หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vj7248 I would prefer KBD to stay while creating a fluid/realistic animation for it, but I get your point.

    • @vj7248
      @vj7248 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ComboDamageTV Tekken 4 is an example of that, they went full Virtua Fighter and went with fluid animation and it does look visually amazing ... but it got a MASSIVE backlash for being a 'slow boring game'. they since have stuck to the gamey animations, as thats what the player base wants. and i dont see this necessarily as a bad thing.... the issue is more that Virtua Fighter went missing for a decade. 💀

    • @ComboDamageTV
      @ComboDamageTV หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vj7248 I dont think looking cool is why T4 failed. Plenty of cool looking games fail. A game has to be fun first, and the gameplay changes are ultimately what led to that. Like I stated in the video, this wont single-handedly save VF, but as someone who always felt like the series was way too vanilla, I'm glad its happening.

    All Tekken moves have varying amount of block stun and a different animation depending on the amount of block stun height of the attack and other properties like forcing crouch or off axis facing. If you add parries, reversals and throw breaks into the system, it all looks super good and dynamic. IMHO generic block is rather bland looking despite the animation to distinguish it from parry animations which have no block stun. th-cam.com/video/EgC88qqyyZ0/w-d-xo.html

    Dont mean to be that guy, but I just slowed down the clip at the street fighter 6 section @1:03 and saw like 4 unique Ken block animations in it based on the strength of the move and where it hit. Street Fighter has technically been doing this since at least Street Fighter 3, but the animations are SUPER subtle and able to be cancelled out of SUPER fast so I dont think it gets shown. But there's unique animations for blocking and parrying highs mids and lows across the entire cast including changes in burnout and other specific scenarios, it's just... fast and subtle.

    I've seen it before in Kensei and Bloody Roar. It's a nice detail to have that looks better than a generic guard stance. Now what would be new I think would be to treat these as mini stances, so you can do special counter attacks depending on the block animation, to have it flow like a movie. But that may be too hard for the player to keep track of.

  • @zoroasper9759
    @zoroasper9759 หลายเดือนก่อน

    the problem here is that you seem to think that all these games don't have dynamic animations for blocking different attacks because they *can't* or because they're like too lazy to do that. The reality is that they forego those animations for the sake of visual clarity. Visual clarity is massive when it comes to the popularity of a game in the competitive scene and nowadays how healthy the competitive scene is will make or break your game The animations from that little teaster for VF6 or whatever it ends up being called are definitely cool looking but it was definitely very scrambly and scrappy. It makes the moves blend into the guard and I wouldn't be surprised if that makes it a bit unpleasant to actually play. Not saying that it will but we'll have to see

    • @lelela2211
      @lelela2211 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it depends. If you use realistic animations its probably way easier to read and predict movement. It wouldn't work for a game like Tekken or SF I think because its too over the top with its animations which are obviously very unrealistic in nature (most of the time). You realy have to omit things like particle/hit effects when going for this approach. I think it could work realy well but ofcourse no way to be sure about it until we play it :) There needs to be an evolution at some point.. and being locked in Ragearts or super animations got boring super fast.

      Virtua Fighter (Sega) has always been the one major flagship 3D Fighter of the genre that really innovates and revolutionises the genre more than the others, this is why Sega doesn't usually just churn out a brand new Virtua Fighter every couple of years like Namco does with Tekken or Tecmo with Dead Or Alive, but instead likes to keep it as their big main generational IP, they will usually do a brand new Virtua Fighter only when the technology is right, but there used to be less of a gap between installments of the VF series in the 90s because technology was moving at a much faster pace then and Sega was lightyears ahead of the console scene in the arcade scene when arcade technology was far more advanced, and it made sense then because Sega always used a new VF as a key part of the marketing of its latest home console, Virtua Fighter 2 on the Sega Saturn was a massive achievement and huge success in the East and that alone kept the Saturn ahead for years.
