Come on a rhythmic, harmonic and cultural journey and become part of a roda de samba (Samba Circle) with master Brazilian Musician Aleh Ferreira.
We want everyone to feel welcome to come and explore the contexts and traditions of the music and the dance, and learn from a Brazilian Master Aleh Ferreira*, straight from Rio de Janeiro! Dancers and Musicians have been able to try out one another’s role within the roda de Samba, as it is important to see the embodiment of the swing of samba from different perspectives. We’ve looked at lyrics, which has put us more in touch with the culture and values of samba - there’s also nothing better than everyone singing the chorus together at the roda! Traditional Afro Brazilian music is not in the mainstream, especially in the UK, and this Colab is an opportunity to listen to the voice of a community that was and is marginalised in its country, looking at the historical context and the people behind the music.
