The "Save the Scottish Regiments!" movement was actually more successful than their supporters realised. It was a well intentioned movement that glossed over the fact the Scottish regiments were critically undermanned compared to the rest of the Army, and came at the expense of English and Welsh regiments, who were hit even harder by the amalgamations. Scotland has around 8% of the UK's population and a lower armed forces recruitment rate than England or Wales, but today is allocated 15% of the British Army's infantry battalions that they still cannot fully man without outside recruitment (which explains why there's so many Fijian Highlanders), much less before the amalgamations. Well intentioned, sure, but they were deluding themselves if they thought there was any way to preserve the customs and traditions of their regiments without amalgamating.

By refering to independence Cameron is playing into the hands of the separatists. He is speaking their language. Scotland leaving the U.K. would not make it independent... It would still be in The European Union and, therefore, in Union with the rest of The U.K! If the SNP are happy to be in Union with the rest of the U.K. through the E.U., why not just stay in the UK? No it was never a partnership by the people, it was a financial deal to save the wealth of a few over the many. There will be a change no matter how you vote, but if you vote YES you will have a say in exacting that change. A vote for No will bring about change being forced upon the people of Scotland , all the policies that offer an alternative will be curtailed by pressure from the electorate in England to cut the block grant.
