Dude, how much do you charge to model a character? Would that be a budget
It's probably because I'm a complete noob when it comes to hair and texturing, but I'm either doing something wrong in FiberShop or just don't know how to use the textures FiberShop exports... Like, I don't know how to combine the albedo, alpha, translucency, etc to even get it looking like you have it in ZBrush, showing the color, let alone the rendering engine. The only programs I have/use are ZBrush for sculpting, SketchUp for hard surface, and Twinmotion for rendering...
I have a question. would this method still allow you to make stylized hair types like in your last video?
hello there! Yes absolutely you can use this method for making any type of hair. I saw professional hair artist using same technique but using Maya and I just decided to use zbrush instead of maya so You can use it to create anything like dragon ball's crazy hair style, Final fantasy hair...etc
@@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358 Final Fantasy was indeed the hairstyle I wanted to emulate. Therefore, I will try this method. Thank you very much for this video.
Man, I love you, I love this method, but I just use Zbrush for layout and merge because I dont know how to use blender xd
Hi there! thank you for watching my video. I don't use blender at all but it's easy to learn how to use it so if you have a day to learn it, it might be worth it. but you can do any way you feel most comfortable :)
I am running into an issue where the brush breaks with missing faces unless I have Tri Parts turned off in the Brush > Modifiers tab. I didn't see you nor Mike Pavlovich have that option off. Is there any reason why this is happening?
Hello! Ah..that's strange. The brush should work fine if you just use the brush setting I showed in the video. By missing faces, do you mean some faces get deleted or can you fix that problem with fixing normal of the object or use viewport option "double " ?
Amazing method, it's really hard to find tutorials that good about hair cards, thank you.
Wow this method rocks!
Hair tool 4.0 got released will you do a guide on it please
Hi there! I saw the update video and I found it interesting especially cross profiling feature. I don't use hair tool anymore but I think it is worthwhile studying about how to use this tool for short male hair and beard so maybe in the future, I will.
Ok thanks, which tool do you use now for your workflow? Thanks for taking the time to reply.
@@3dToGameready-u4w No problem man! I use Zbrush as hair styling tool which you can see me making hair using zbrush in my latest video.
Awesome I will check those video out.
This is by far the best workflow for hairs who are mainly using blender + zbrush. Thanks a lot
can you also animate / simulate them in game engine ?
Hi there! yes you can. In unreal, you can just paint weight on the hair and let the hair physics do the work for you :) I believe unreal has good hair system built in by default and also you can use plugin like Kawaii physics to simplify the workflow.
@@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358 You know any good resources for that? Most tutorials I found where using Maya or other expensive third party software unfortunately .. it's really hard to find a tutorial on making a character in blender and rigging + animating it in unreal... All tutorials that were doing it with blender modles, were dodging hair, by just making short hair characters in blender (therefor they didn't have to show how to implement the hair in UE) or had chars with hats, helmets etc.
@@jorricktv9550 I know some but they are all paid course and quite expensive and yes, they all use many third party software. if you wanna go just with blender, it's gonna be hard for sure. but I would recommend checking out youtube channel called " Royal Skies" . This channel deal with so many useful information so it could help.
@@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358 omg... so helpfull <3 was following the channel already, but looking for this topic in specific in connection with his channel I found the solution for what i was looking for .... thank you so much ^^
blender how
If you wanna do this in blender, you can use curve and curve modifier. its setup is tedious and I don't like it so I used the zbrush. If you are not familiar with curve modifier, there are plenty of videos on that topic on youtube.
This it's gold. Thank you so much
Great video, what rendering software do you use?
Hi there! thank you very much! I used the rendering software called Marmoset toolbag 4. It's really powerful and industry standard for real time game artists.
I just found out using the old version of hair tool with blender 3.3 give me the old hair curves back! How exactly did you do the fur for her scarf? The white thing she's wearing
Hi there. For the fur, I would recommend you to watch developer's video(Bartosz Styperek) titled " How to make fur for games in blender" . There are many ways of creating fur, but it teaches you simple and easy of creating fur using hair tool :)
Please share your blender theme
you can just change the theme to Maya and adjust background colour to achieve similar result like mine.
Thanx @@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358
Very useful, tnx
2:28 how in the name of baby jesus do you make those dots appear? The ones that let you move it like a curve
If you are using newer version of hair tool you can't do this since everything got updated and how things work were changed as well. Only way you can use hair tool right now is by learning how to use new system or downgrade hair tool version.
@@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358 Thank you! I just found out about the update recently! What version of Hair tool and Blender were you using in this video?
@@danielnorton9803 I don't remember the exact verision number since I don't update the tool often but I think I was using blender 3.1 and hair tool before 2.35
ok what if the hair card is UVed before it was placed on the head? That way the only tedious work would be to align for various textures in the hair sheet/texture atlas
Hello! so yeah that's idea way of doing it but If I remember correctly, it didn't really work well when I tried. You can experiment it though haha
I came to learn how to make hair cards, ended up learning whole new cool features of UV unwrapping in blender that I didn't use for 2 years at my job
thank you so much!
Hi Tom, thanks for the video 😃 I have a question regarding hair bake. How would you compare textures baked in blender using hair tool, and the ones baked in fibershop? I'm thinking about buying FS but I'm not sure if it makes that much of a difference? Cheers
Hi there! I'm sure you can make good hair texture using hair tool addon but Fibershop is so much more powerful and flexible tool to use. You can make hair texture either procedurally, manually, or both at the same time. This really makes the hair texture production process easy and fast and you can create basically any type of texture you need efficiently. And moreover, you can apply modifiers at baking stage, and it allows you to customize hair texture in any way you desire(eg. colour,Ao,SSS...). So yeah, if you are character artist and need to make lots of hair textures, then maybe it's good idea to purchase Fibershop. It has very affordable perpetual license so if you like what you see in their official Fibershop videos, then just go for it.
Amazing bro!
Perfect!!!! thank you!
Ty! can you do the same but all in blender?
Yes you can, using curve and curve modifier but setup can be tedious and I personally find that it's hard to use.
Hair chunks usually look fine in Blender, but once you export it to an Game Engine you really start to notice the intersections. Doesnt look too great.
Perfect <3 Thank you so much for that tutorial. I really needed that. No one creates such good hair content as you :D
Aw thank you so much for watching my videos and also for kind words! I really applicate it!
very useful, I always have difficulty arrange hair card 😊
sorry for the double comment but amazing! i've watched all your hair tutorial videos but this method is the most appealing to me by far as someone who also loves to stay in zbrush xD I will try this workflow tonight! thanks tom! :)
Hey! thank you for leaving nice comments and I'm glad I could be your help :) Since you are also zbrush bro , I'm sure you are gonna love this workflow once you get used to it. have fun!
Tom has returned! :D
hi tom, im having trouble setting up my cards to follow a curve like yours do, i have purchased hair tool but im having difficulty understanding it, other than the online documentation and your videos, do you reccommend any other sources to learn this addon?
Hi there! yeah, hair tool has gotten bit harder to learn and use after big hair tool update. Because of that, I have implemented new hair creation workflow myself and as a result, I don't use it as much. And unfortunately , there are not as many resources to learn from as it used to be. so if you are struggling to understand how to use this tool, I would recommend you to join hair tool discord sever. There are many talented people there so you can ask question to get help. second option is to downgrade the hair tool version (version before big update) . this is inconvenient but at least it will work and you can follow most of hair tool tutorial videos.
@@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358 Hi tom, yeah it is pretty tough to learn, i only got the tool cause of the ability to use curves to place cards, is that possible without the hair tool addon? the curves in base blender are very tricky to use
@@Vduke735 Yes, you can do that without addon but, it is so frustrating to use for sure. curves in blender tend to spin around uncontrollably and makes it harder to place hair cards precisely and besides it takes more time and effort to set things up. If you have access to Zbrush, you can use curve modifier to place cards without any problem( which I'm going to make video about soon) But otherwise yeah, your best bet is to use older version of hair tool.
@@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358 i see! i will learn about this curve modifer in zbrush, most likely will use old hair tool for now too so i can figure things out. also can't wait for your return! your videos are always super helpful :)
I got a question, is there any chance you show us how you make the fur, you used the hair tool afon on it, using cage /shells on it?
Hi there! So I think I can make tutorial for that but this project is quite old so If I make character with fur in the future, I definitely will. :)
Hi tom, whenever i try making the triangular shape into a curve brush the faces disappear for some reason even tho im using double sided in display properties, thanks for the awesome workflow
Hi there! hm that is so weird. I have no idea why that is happening. Does the same thing happen when you make other type of IMM curve brush?
@@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358 i got the same problem on the triangular shape , the rect shape is fine but there are a bunch of face when iam using frame mesh . Is there anyway to fix the tri . Hope for your reply !
@@libri6656 hmmm did you assign 3 polygroups to triangular one? If so, then when you use frame mesh by polygroup border, you should be only getting 3 edges where you can use IMM hair brush to get attached to. I tried to replicate the same problem that you and another person was having but I couldn't do it , so I'm sorry if I can't be your help.
i opened the scene and added some deforemrs, but when i adjusted settings the result is applying to all the 4 mesh why? i used hairtool v3.6, you are able to add modifiers when you selected the last mesh i did same but my settings was applying to all 4, why??
I tried to get the hang with curves but honestly im better off with just editing the vertices with proportional editing.
Amazing❤. Can you make braids hair card using blender
very nice i bought this addon ( hairtools) and saw your channel
NIceee! I honestly believe this is best hair modelling tool for blender so I hope you enjoy the learning process of it and make tons of hair styles!
What if you want a custom design of hair? How do you create that? Or are you stuck with just tweaking templates?
Hello! No, hair tool does not have restriction on what kind of hair style you can make. you can either start from scratch and make whatever you want or you can start from template as a starting point and build things up from there to save some time. so basically, this tool allows you to make any hair style ( including hyper realistic and super cartoony hairstyle) and I honestly believe this is best hair modelling tool for blender.
Hey there Tom there is method for hair chunk workflow using hair tools addon. Infact I've made a full 8 parts video series on that if you wish to check that out
Ooh hey that's really cool! I'm going to check it out later then. thanks for letting me know :)
I watched your 8 videos and didn't see when you did that, what video is it?
hello Tom! Thank you very much for your video.. I've been searching for a way to make hair for a week now, and this approach is really nice. and i'm sorry for my dumb question, i must've missed something. I'm a newby, and i can't understand where you got the texture map in zbrush at 2:25.
Hi! thank you so much for watching! so for the hair texture, I'm using my own custom hair texture and imported to zbrush so if you need hair texture, you will need to either create one yourself using something like xgen or fibershop or you could buy from market place. I'm sorry I wasn't really clear about that. :(
oh, i see. thank you very much @@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358
How to edit the curve after clicking curve from mesh? I go to edit mode and dont see any curve
Hi! sorry , if you are using recent updated version of hair tool, I have no idea how to do that. I only use old version of hair tool and your best option is to go watch tutorials made by developer of this tool. Sorry I couldn't be your help. :(
hi tom! for the brush you use to lay down your hair cards, does it have a backface? it looks like it does in the video, I'm trying to replicate the same workflow, great stuff by the way! :D
Hello there duke! thank you for the nice word. I appreciate it! so when you say backface, do you mean like backface setting in the brush menu ? if that is a case, I turned it off :)
@@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358hi Tom! so at 1:04 the card you use has a back face on the inside?
@@duke110 ahh I see! So the answer is no. It’s just single sided mesh and I was just using double in the visibility menu to see backface. Hope it helps.
@@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358 ah i see thank you! i really like this workflow and would love for you to do more on it, maybe on the placement of your cards? thanks again! :)
Hey, I apologize for annoying you again. But how did you use custom hair textures with hair tools? And if I generate curves from grid mesh im not able to edit the curves
Hey no worries at all! so for the information about custom texture, you can check out "Let's make real time hair in blender + hair tool addon ep5" set up section. And for the issue you are having curves, Sorry I only know and use old version of hair tool before everything changed so I cannot help you with that.
I learned so much from your videos. Im really thankful for that. It made me from hating the hair creation process to tolerating it. Im really impressed how you use so many curves with barely any intersections. I for one really struggle with that
Aw thank you so much for the kind word! I'm still learning a lot about hair creation everyday but I'm glad my videos could help you out a bit.
I'm having vastly different results creating this brush. I don't see what I'm doing differently.
Hi! so what kind of problem are you having with your hair brush??
this tool seems to have changed with its update. I get what looks like hair cards to manipulate and not the particles to make a texture.
Hi there! and yes It's gotten big update some time ago and it kind of changed everything. whilst it is super awesome tool for specific workflow but I found the better workflow for myself so I stopped using this addon and have no idea how the baking scene works now. Sorry I couldn't be your help.
Hi! can i get your brushes for zbrush please ? By the way, you have such a great voice! It's really nice to listen to the video.
Hi there! so if you meant IMM hair brush, then you can create triangle shaped object, just like the I showed you at 01:12 in the video, and then just created the IMM curve brush. I didn't do anything special so it's gonna be easier for you to make one for yourself :) And thank you for kind word! I've never considered my voice was good so it is really nice to receive that compliment!
@@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358 Thanks, I'm just so lazy sometimes that I thought why would I make a brush when there's a link to it and I can download it or something, haha I really like your videos, they are so cute and cozy. Do you have an artstation or some other social network? I'd love to get to know your work better :)
Really nice!
How difficult can it be to build such a geometry node in blender... Does anyone know such a free addon for blender? Or I'll start learning Gometry Node just for the hair card.
