Amazing Framer
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 ม.ค. 2020
I have been framing since 1994. I have been a solo framer since 2001. I love what I do. It has become fairly simple over the years and to this day I still find new tricks or ways to frame a home. There are some “How to” videos and some just for viewing. I hope my videoing and editing skills improve as I go along this journey. Thank you for your time and take care. Sincerely Dan
P.S. not a fan of wind , +30 (90), -20 (5) I love hoody weather.

Timelapse Framing a Home in Under 10 Minutes Alone!
Dan your a one man gang my brother. Thanks for the video
Thank you! You’re welcome have a good Sunday.
Thanks Dan, I hope you are enjoying the fall colors.
Yeah I am. Our colours are not like yours. However I am going to Vancouver a few days at the end of the week. The colours will be awesome there. Rainy though. Bye for now.
but the concrete is never level.
Yeah it is. The mud sill (2x4 set in the forms) is installed via a laser before the foundation is poured. Good catch though. Thanks for watching.
Most badass framer on the tubes 🤙🏼
Thank you! Appreciate the comment. Enjoy the your day.
You must sleep like a baby at night after all that work. I would have made it about 1/2 the day at your pace.
Yeah that is just one of the benifits of framing.
First time viewer and blown away. 👍
Welcome! Blown away….good term seeing as that it tends to be windy here. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Dan, have a great Sunday.
Thanks Mark. We are enjoying our Thanksgiving. We do this a little sooner than you. Thanks for hanging around.
@@framnerdan Dan, after I sent message, I remembered your thanksgiving. I hope you had a great break and enjoyed family. I'll have to send you picture of completed pocket door, it turned out great. Take care.
Learned some new things about using a laser. Are the major brands all pretty similar or did you have a recommendation for one?
Mine is a Bosch. A cheap one, it works well. You get what you pay for. Don’t be afraid of spending a little on this tool. The laser level is one tool that drastically changed framing for me(for the better). The more I used it the more tricks I learnt. Thank you for watching.
Why are there so many of you solo framing in Canada? There’s several channels. Stumbled on yours , great job
I don’t know! There was several of us in Lethbridge. There is nothing like the ambiance of solo framing. Solo framing allows for such a clean and clear mind. Solo framing allows you to remove the “hurry up framing” and creates slow and steady framing. I actively tell myself to slow down thru the day which actually makes progress faster. Hard to explain and takes time to understand. I love it.
Thanks for making the video a little longer Dan.Good job
Your welcome. Thank you.
Thanks for the video! I'm making a shed.I went too the lumber yard to purchase some four by twos. The the lady looked on the computer and couldn't find any. I asked her if she had any two by fours. I said "I'll take those and turn them sideways. She said "How long do you want them?" I said "A long time I'm building a shed". She said a little louder, "no, what length"? I said "oh, why didn't you say so"? I think she is a newbie!
The top and the bottom of the wall are parallel to each other. I use those positions as a control "line" to measure off of for deck rims instead of a Lazer. I don't need those fancy gadgets.
K. How did you get the height of the piles to calculate your post length? Thank you for watching.
@@framnerdan level from the pier too the house and make a mark. Measure up the wall from that mark too the line that is the bottom of the rim...that is the length of the post. If you nail the rim on the wall, complete with nangers before you raise it you will then know the length too the bottom plate. You won't need to get on a ladder and measure up the wall. This will make the needle rise on the amazing meter.
Best framer on you tube
Holy! Big kind words. Thank you.
We have a saying in Norwegian: "Her danser ingen halte høner"Directly translated it comes out as "No lame hens are dancing here" and you lose the real meaning: Only professionals are working here. You never cease to impress - working as a team of at least four.
Wow, thank you for your comment. Have an excellent day and week. Bye for now.
The like counter is not working
Really. Don’t know what to say about that. Thanks for watching though.
Is it now?
@@framnerdan I took a while but it finally started working. I think that is an important part of doing these videos.
Incredible Dan :) Grettings from Poland :)
Thank you!!
Is it ever not windy where you are? Or is that your breathing?
It tends to blow a lot here. Specially in the winter. However it is what gets our temperature above freezing thru the winters.
I thought I missed some days as it is titled Day 15! glad itis day 12.
Oops I will change that thank you! Thank you for watching
Thanks Dan, have a great week.
Hi Mark. Thank you. This weekend is thanksgiving for us northerners. Take care
Nice trick wedging the post between the studs mate. Also does the wind ever stop in the land of maple syrup, big moose and no NHL titles 😂
Ouch well said though. It tends to blow a lot in winter. Keeps our temperatures warmer though
In my opinion you can become even more amazing, (if thats even possible)...Cut out he window openings with a flush cut router bit. That's how I do it in my world. No measuring, just blinding speed and perfect accuracy every time.😅😮
I’m Dutch eh! Rotoring May cost a tad more😳. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you Dan for another good video
You’re welcome.
Framer Dans the MAN!! 💪🔨🇨🇦
Thank you!
What are your thoughts on OSB vs ZIP system? ZIP seems a bit more expensive, but it is pretty popular
I believe zip is so popular due to its over all R-Value properties. Also some waterproofing. Ply wood and house wrap is just as good regarding water infiltration. Idk much about insulation and what not tho.
I would like the zip system. We always get our windows with jambs. So it could affect the cost of windows or finishing. Is the Rvalue good?
Hey love your videos, how did you get into framing homes by yourself?
I had a framing partner way back but we both built our own homes on the side. Got tired of tracking hours so each started framing solo.
@framnerdan im a framer working for someone else right now, what steps should I take to get my own homes to frame?
Don’t know how long you been framing. If it is busy where you are it is a good time to make the jump. Reach out to a builder, lumber yard, or truss plant and ask if they know of anyone looking for a framer. They would love to recommend a good framer.
@framnerdan only 2 years so I'm not 100% confident I could go for one myself but I would love to try at some point in the future, I guess I'll know when I'm ready
@Np.0413 Yes you will know remember your building your name already. People in your area are aware of you. Just keep framing and learning. I promise you are learning more than you know. This is not a blanket statement you truly are learning more than you know. Keep it up. I don’t know you but you got the right attitude. Proud of you!
How are they supposed to insulate the walls when that plastic stretches stud to stud???
Pull it open and install the insulation. Only a few staples holding it in place.
Dan do you have any news vidéo as today , thahk's .have a good one.
No sorry I do not.
@@framnerdan no problem
Mate, I’m new to this great content and you may have been asked this before…Ever thought of getting an apprentice ? Just so he can block the wind on those windy days 😂 seriously any apprentice would greatly benefit from how you go about things and someone can wind up the hoses and leads every arvo.
Yeah I have thought about it. Like working alone though.
How are you supposed to get insulation behind the partitions behind that poly?
Just tug it loose from the few staples holding it
Another fine video, thank you!
Thank you Dave
Next time when you do start laying out 2x4’s for framing mark the channels off with your square. So you don’t have to be up and down a ladder using a tape measure. In the framing phase I don’t even use a tape or square.
Wow. Endless walls😭
No kidding eh.
Thanks Dan.
Your welcome
You gotta be in the same trade to appreciate what Dan does building alone. Much respect my friend.
🤙
Just enjoyed watching another one of your videos. Thanks so much for sharing your awesome work with us.😅
Your welcome
how was there already wood into the concrete foundation wall before he even started framing???
They pour it in the concrete. We call it a “mud sill”.
why is he nailing that plastic wrap between his top plate
We have to seal the home. Where cold air meets warm air we must have a vapour barrier. Otherwise moisture builds up.
Thanks Dan, have a great hump day.
Why frame a house alone?
So you don't have to pull your hair out when the cutter keeps making the wrong cuts.
@@tonygristina4860 😂😂😂
More profit per job, no headaches when someone doesn't show up or makes a mistake. If you're okay with reduced safety then it's an attractive option.
Because he can. 😂
Man it is so rewarding and easy by yourself. I feel the replies say it best!
Keep it up I’m hooked I think because it very similar but I’m in Colorado
Colorado. Want to see some of that state some day. Thank you
Thx for the video Dan
Your welcome Mo
Would it have worked to slide that last wall over the platform, stood it, then back onto the stem wall? Or was there something in the way of that?
Yeah i think that would have worked. What is a stem wall?
@@framnerdan It's the part of the foundation that rises up off the footings, which you bolt your walls to.
Thanks Dan, have a great weekend.
You too Mark. Take care
The smallest four man framing crew on this planet
Thanks sailor guy! Thanks for watching.
I love your videos, man. Invest in your content & audio quality with a windscreen.
Thank you. I should get a mic.
Good morning sir, are you need the carpenter ,if.can you hierd from india
Good evening. Sorry but not looking right now.
This is such great content pre planning plumbing most don’t care then the plumbers are sawing floor trusses😮
Man so easy to deal with at framing stage!! Thanks for watching.
Beautiful scenery but dangerous working alone in my opinion.
I move slowly And carefully.
@@framnerdan I’ve paid close attention to you Dan you’re a talented person but I’ve seen a lot of accidents on the job site in my 70 years. God Bless and keep you safe.
Sometimes I prefer it alone half the accidents come from others. Now with my dad it is great joking and laughing and neither had to ask what the other was doing it is like a dance my son is now coming along quickly but he is a little young yet
Thank you JG
Sounds like a great time in your careers.
Hi bud, Is your stapler ½ inch or 7/16?
I look it up. Paselode dosen't make a 7/16" ;-)
It is 1/2”
Dan… I bet in your house your kids or other family members and friends can’t say…it’s too hard or I can’t, because what you do on your own is farkin amazing mate 💪🏻✌️
My kids do have a strong work ethic and are not afraid of work. Thanks for the comment.
