How loud is it?
Maybe leaky injectors? clogged fuel lines? maybe airlocked somewhere maybe something todo with that EGR valve causing problems as they can cause no start or other funky stuff, i'd assume high pressure pump is fine usually when they fail you notice it since they're mechanical the seals fail and it pisses fuel so very ez to spot. Dealing with "fuel injection system error" problems myself on the same rr bmw engine.
It’s on the shelf at the moment, I am erring towards injectors to be honest, most of the symptoms lean that way!
А кто грунтовать будет перед вваркой? Или тачка на продажу?
very nice video thank you, would like to ask you something my RR 4.4 v8 2004 is standing on 3 wheels only on front right its dubbed to bottom guess its right airbag blown, but my problem is that the compressor doesnt work and when it works its after restart via obd its very loud and doesnt do sht, so my question is how to fix that buttons on mid console to blink yellow and work, im going to buy new front airbag and kompressor but besides that is there anything else that I should look up? cheers
If the compressor has overheated then it can (and probably will) need a rebuild. You can buy a kit online that has all the parts to rebuild it. However, you can just buy a used one for about the same cost! Worth taking a look at the valve block behind the wheel arch liner as they are prone to leaking and will drop one or both of the front bags over time.
@@garejmali547 thank you I will check that valve block...
New compressor and the air suspension system won't go into lock out mode anymore, very common failure, either rebuild yours or buy a 2nd hand/rebuilt one, they're easy to rebuild and take apart.
@@ThatBritishGuy we disconnected air suspension ECU and manualy bricked the wires so we can lift it every 2 3 days without PC... and it still goes down guess its the valve block front or air bag... both ordered will be at my door b4 Christmas hope it will solve the issue
Great video, what would have been good is to see how you did the insert into the rest of the steel frame
So how did you get the bag over the O rings or did I miss that?
After a bit of struggling and grunting, I just put the top nut on the shock absorber and inflated the bag, it pushed itself over the o rings. It is possible to carefully push the rings into the bottom of the bag with a blunt tool. Unless we had a dodgy bag, I don’t know if it is possible to just pull the bag over the rings… unless you’re built like a tank!
What happened to the headlight wipers?
It doesn’t have them as it is a lower spec SE, it has halogen headlamps that don’t require the washers! Our newer L322 does have them as it has Xenon headlamps. 👍
Check the air filter is new as this will effect it starting
Perhaps you could have cleaned your old air mass flow sensor with an electric contact spray cleaner and not bothered to buy a used one 🤷🏾♂️
I could have but the plastic casing was broken on the old one so it needed replacing really.
That fuel pump has been changed before as it should have had one way clips holding the pipes not jubilee clips!! 😮
That’s a very good point! She has proper fuel pipe clips on there now, still doesn’t run properly though.
@@garejmali547 I think your fuel lines are blocked!!
Dropping the tank have a trolley Jack about unless it’s empty, 100 L- 22/23 gallon so soon gets heavy if fuel is left in.
Heavy steering- Servotronic valve if I recall, had same issue with my td6, not to bad to do and makes a big difference.
Keep up the hard work ❤❤
One other thing to add is that I had excess smoke and even though I had fixed the problem the car needed a dam good thrash to clear the exhaust - your poor starting and smoke issure may not be related?
You need to plug the scanner in and get some live data and look at MAF and inlet manifold pressure MAP to verify no air leaks fooling the ECU which can possibly cause poor starting. MAF will be around 450mg/Hub at idle and reduce when the EGR opens to go down to 390. MAP pressure should be a knats tadge above 1 bar at idle due to small turbo boost. The turbo is vacuum actuated as is EGR and engine mounts and have an effect but not on cold starting. Fuel pressure from the secondary fuel pump should be 4 BAR and high pressure on the rail at idle should be around 320-370 BAR and increase with RPM. You may need to convert these values from BAR to metric equivalents - plenty of web sites do conversions for you. If the pressures are about right stop wasting time and money on fuel pumps at this stage. With the ignition on if the vehicle has been left overnight the low pressure fuel pump can run for up to a minute to build pressure and hold it then it will shut off if the engine is not started.
I’ll plug in the diagnostics and check all that this morning, see how it all compares. In all honesty, I’ve changed the fuel pumps, fuel filter and maf sensor so they should all be ok. It seems to start and run better with the maf unplugged but that makes her smoke a bit. Maf plugged in makes less smoke but struggles to start and likes to go into limp mode as soon as it’s under load. 👍
Transport mode is when the factory code the vehicle prior to shipping to save battery power - no radio and other features disabled. Easily changed if you have access to relevant software - i.e. BMW INPA, if not any BMW/Land Rover specialist will be able to change the mode
I would start by removing the plastic pipe you removed when replacing the MAF to verify that the rubber seal on the turbo inlet that the plastic hose fits over is intact and fitted correctly. If there is an air gap the engine ECU will be seeing LESS air from the MAF due to it getting air from a leak = less fuel = less performance. These engines run in open loop - there is no oxygen sensor in the exhaust pipe so the ECU will not be aware of un-burnt fuel. I have a 2003 Giverny green TD6 like you.
Did you change the fuel pump underneath the car??? Give it a good bang with a small hammer then try start the car! If it starts you know it’s a slow fuel pump!! It’s only about a 20 minute job!! You will need 2 new jubilee clips! That is very common to go wrong!!! The in tank pumps are very reliable and don’t give trouble!
I have one here to go underneath, delivered today! So that’s next on the menu, it’s running well (you can hear it) but it isn’t very expensive so better changed.
The pump is running well, not the car! Lol.
They might have considered doing this in the factory. 😄
So glad to have found you. I have an 03 Td6 l322 with what looks to be the same list of problems! 😅 fingers crossed the fuel pump sorts it. Looking forward to the video. Keep it up 👍👍
I’m going to double check anything before firing the parts cannon off on Claude, I’m not 100% sure it isn’t a couple of dodgy injectors, or an injector wiring harness. Plenty to look at, I’m sure it won’t be too dramatic.
@garejmali547 Yep that's probably a sensible idea! I'll keep tinkering with mine and if I have any joy I'll report back to you. Best of luck dude
@@muyakimani1622good luck, hopefully we can both sort this out 👍
The issue between 12 then dieing 3... Id say is your issue with transporter mode. Deal only fix at one point . Unless you know someone with the software.
Id tune the 57 u can put a zf gear box on it the bmw unit is the most reliable
What happens to the water that gets in ?
If I remember rightly (it’s been a while) both ends of the box were capped off with plates and the back plate was bonded to the door skin, then after the skin was folded back over the bottom, the whole thing was seam sealed. Without over engineering it, I think that’s about as good as it can be?
I think he’s saying, the water that gets in through the likes of window runners, (this is how the problem occurs to start with) can’t get out, no drain holes, what size box section is it you used?
If you buy the correct channel for the door repair, as I have done, the channel has vents built in so that it can drain as the originals should. There is a flat back piece which goes against the skin and a box section as original attached to it, with the built in drain channels. If done correctly and sealed to prevent steel contact against the aluminium skin, the repair should be as original or better. I would not use square box section as here , see "Paintman Panels - Land rover Series Bottom door repair section".
Well if you have an intercooler leak you will be 40% power down!!! My TD6 is a perfect tow vehicle!! The gearboxes are actually okay it’s the torque converters that go! I got a new one for £270 and changed it myself. They are updated and should last another 150k miles!! I also have another TD6 with a full stainless exhaust and stage 1 remap. That does shift!!!! 😊
I’ve replaced the pipe but haven’t driven it yet, been a bit busy with the other stuff! Hopefully it will help with the performance a bit and reduce the black smoke! I’ll have a blast in it tomorrow and update! 👍
just put an mercedes om 602 603 604 606 turbo diesel in it they wil run for a million km
I had a Vito with an OM646 in it, that made it to 250k miles before the injectors fell out and the floor rotted away.
Look at harrys garage wen he visited clarksons farm, on the l322, it tells u how 2 stop the seatbelt bong, i dne it with my 1,
“In and out, ten times fast!” I don’t know if it works on the facelifted version, I’ll have to check!
Love the l322s I’m with you on the black wheels they make it look bad rather have clean oem wheels to make look mint
The tyres are a bit poor, I may look for another (OE) set in silver and then refurb these… or I may just do them one at a time. Or… maybe I could buy another L322 and risk a beating and/or divorce lol.
Nice cars. I have a defender 110 200Tdi and a 56plate vogue SE TDV8 I’m after a 4.4TDV8 next!
Cheers, they’re all good fun eh? I’ll be interested in the difference between the 3.6 and 4.4 as that’s our next step, just not right now otherwise I might need medical help!
Just came across this I have one in my garage 4 yrs it's been there was running great just cut out never sorted it 22inch super 7s struts and springs on the front needs a new home to good to scrap good range rover for someone
Do t spend money mines is a £1000 the wheels are worth that the suspension cost over a grand tow bar the lot but it has tinted windows new discs new air bags on the rear come and get it
We’re always interested in new projects and I’ve grown to like the Rangerover.
shit dirty and cancer causing working conditions
I hope your going to change those rear discs they are terrible 🙈
Great buy until the transmission has a total melt down which it will when i had a td6 from new i had 2 new transmissions and not cheap especially if your going to tow it wont last long
If it goes pop then we’ll just get a TDV8, 4.2SC or something, not exactly expensive at the moment are they! With a range rover it’s about smiles per gallon while it lasts! In all honesty, what is built well these days?
@@garejmali547 total agree my 2023 range rover has been back in garage more than I've driven it definatley won't buy again have had every model since 1970s just too unreliable not sure what to replace with tbh
Keep the trans in sport mode under 60 mph and it keeps the torque converter from locking/slipping - one of the biggest issues with the transmission. My TD6 has had over 425k hard km’s and is still going strong. That said, the TDV8 is a better towing vehicle and a real joy to drive. See the Harry’s Garage vid with Jeremy Clarckson on the best RR ever
@@Steve_MFr a td6 wont even pull a chug nut out your ass choclate transmission had every model of range rover sine 1970s till 2023 never again always main dealer serviced totally useless
I’m here for the Range Rover - hope you soon feel better
Hmm, what should I be doing with the Rangey? I hadn’t really planned on making much out of it other than lightly restoring it and using it as a replacement for the Disco! Im always up for a challenge, if I was doing a project L332 it would probably be a V8 SC though… which could be considered. 🤔
Just found your channel and love your relaxed commentary. The motor is great and very clsssy in my opinion..Thanks and i shall back track your videos from tje start.
please stop saying and
If it is any consolation, it does my head in! I’ll make a conscious effort 👍
Love these range rovers I would like to see more content of you fixing yours👍🇬🇧
We need to get this Defender finished, then we’ll put some time into the Range Rover. We’re not going crazy with it, just making it well again, with a couple of nice touches added here and there.
Lovely motor especially without the tints can't wait to see what you do with it
I think we are going to do a light restoration, tweak a few bits and roll with it. Always open to suggestions but we have to consider it is mainly for towing our recovery trailer so it needs to be usable!
Keep the videos coming
Will do, hopefully have something to put together later on today!
Expensive to run and maintain plus not ULEZ compliant. But great deal though.
No ULEZ worries over here, it’s very rural and over an hours drive to the nearest city!
@@garejmali547 in tbat case its a bargain so much car but very expensive on insurance on fuel round where my area in London. Good luck hope it serves you well.
Great work, absolute bargain at £500! I've recently bought a 2012 4.4TDV8 Westminster which is my first RR, and I can already see why people love them, even with their issues. I'd rip them vape vents off your windows though, would look a lot better without them, lovely colour though.
Just need to sort the aircon out and the window things will be history! A 4.4 TDV8 will hopefully be the next one for us, not yet though.
It passed 🎉 A couple of historic advisories but nothing to get excited about.
Nice job. It looks GREAT
Thanks, I’m pretty sure there is room for a few more videos from it!
Nice work! How did you solve the aluminum corrosion on the door skin?
Thanks for the positive comment! It’s not really possible to eliminate the oxidisation, it’s inherent with Landrover lol. In my experience the best you can do is using a dual action sander or similar, try to remove as much as is possible. If it has all gone then polish the area with a fine grit pad before applying sealer/primer/paint. If it isn’t possible to remove all the oxidisation then just get as much as possible and use some epoxy to build up the surface and try to seal it. Without oxygen it will slow the process a little. Definitely one of the Defenders Achilles heels!
Musisz mieć dużo wytrwałości 😊
ITS HARD DOING THE REPAIRS AND VIDEOS AS IT IS SO TIME CONSUMING BUT THE END RESULT IS ALLWAYS WORTH IT GOOD LUCK TO YOU BOTH ALL THE BEST
Thank you, it is hard work and a constant challenge! We have so many more projects lined up but just need to get this defender done for now.
always remove the cappings before paint as they rust like mad inside and it makes sense to paint without them on then refit once painted inside and out, always wet your floor when your dragging a hose around in a disty warehouse building too.
Constructive input always welcome, thanks. 🙂
One quick sub given. Check out my landy it’s a 1990 defender 110
I’ve been starting to undertake the welding on my d2 td5 and I thought mine was quite bad this makes me feel much better about mine😂
Its nice to see someone else getting a bit of hardship no offence ment, I'm trying doing my own 2001 and hardship is all im getting every nut and bolt is fighting me, I'm just going to grind the lot of them off, good video
Great video, just what im after. Bought a discovery 2 today and it has a very similar issues, holes everywhere!! What thickness plate you using for patching if you dont mind me asking. Look forward to your next vid, keep em coming 👍
2mm steel is good for repairs… you can use 3mm however usually when you over strengthen one area you will expose another weak spot.
