Symbols (along with numbers) are very overrated, like their some magic beans. Most people will only use the few above the number keys. And if you had a 12 character password with them that's 72^12 = 1.9 x 10^22 possible combinations whereas without them and with just one more character you would have a stronger password. 62^13 = 2.0 x 10^23 Even if you considered all 95 characters with 12 letters you still have only 95^12 = 5.4 x 10^23 Length is so much more important. Saying you need symbols and then saying that 8 is a good amount doesn't make any sense. Put simple if someone has trouble remembering a password with symbols, don't tell them that they NEED symbols when they really don't. And that 3 for E, @/4 for A is so well known that is silly to suggest it. It what I would tell someone to trick them into believing their weak password is strong. All of those tricks have been known to hackers for decades. If you have an actual strong password I can't imagine why you would ever need to change it, much less every few months. Doesn't really matter if they have a hash of it if they still need a billion years to crack your password with it. It won't hurt to change it, but people will tend to pick weak passwords if they have to often, or just change it a little from the previous one which if one sees a leaked one they can guess the new one.

MY TWO CENTS: As a matter of due diligence, I would advice my Clients to look at their overall data storage requirements and comparison shop with public vs private storage. Even if it's a bit higher, I'd go with the private storage company to increase the chance of getting better service. Thank you for sharing.
