I have a piece (desk) very similar to this. I cut it in half as well. Did the carbide scrapper and just as you found out, the paint/primer was terrible to try to remove. I did the same thing you did and applied a stripper. Instead of using a metal scraper I continued to use my carbide scraper. Boy was it still a pain to take off. A true labor of love.

If you use clear wax first then apply dark wax is easier to age the piece❤

I have used the Duranm wood putty for flowers and they are rock hard like the resin but wood toned to match drawer fronts for a natural wood tone more like the actual dupe just a tip from a fellow furniture artist
