Carotid chemoreceptor type 1 cells release nurotransmiters (acetylcholine, ATP and dopamine). ACh and ATP are stimulatory to the sensory nerve terminals, while dopamine is inhibitory through D2 receptor.

Sir but when does pneumotaxic centre inhibit DRG for expiration to occur ? Is it durnig quiet breathing or during forced/deep breathing?
