Triangle Loom
In this video we show the making of a 7 foot triangle loom, or triloom. This video is meant to be a guide, and not a full tutorial. There are a lot of great resources online for specific instructions.
The goal for this project is to use hand-spun yarn from our small flock of sheep to make a shawl. A sample shawl was made using stash yarn for this video.
Materials:
1 x 8' hardwood 1x2 board
2 x 6' hardwood 1x2 board
approx 600 finishing nails (something that won't rust easily)
Tools:
Chop saw
drill driver
drill press
large square
counter sink
clamps
General Instructions (there are many resources available online for more specific instructions):
Make a right triangle with your three boards and mark where you need to make your cuts. My hypotenuse is 7' long, and the three angles are 90, 45, and 45 degrees. I used a quilting ruler to measure my angles.
Predrill your connection holes and use long screws to fasten the three sides together.
Make a center line on all three sides. Mark nail holes every 1/2 inch along your hypotenuse (the long side).
Using your square, measure up from each mark and make a new mark along your two short sides. You will then go back through and place a mark between each of these marks (only on the two short sides). Guessing is fine here.
Disassemble the triangle for this next part. Using a drill press, pre-drill each hole (nearly 600!).
Finish your wood if you'd like, then hammer in your nails.
Reassemble the loom, and you're ready to weave!

Baling Corn Stalks with Antique Farm Equipment

We had the opportunity to help bale corn stalks with family using their antique farm equipment. The bales will be used for both feed and bedding for our sheep and chickens during the late fall and early winter. Due to being in a drought this summer, we started feeding hay much earlier than usual, dipping into our hay reserves more than we'd like. We're hoping the corn stalk bales will help exte...

Making Tallow

A video of my first time making tallow. To make venison tallow, all I did was cut up the fat, getting rid of as much meat as possible. I put the chunks of fat in a crock pot for several hour with some water. After straining out the fat and water, I let it solidify in order to separate out the remaining water. Because my end goal was to use the tallow in soap making, I also infused the liquified...
Cleaning Woodstove Glass with Ashes and Water
มุมมอง 114ปีที่แล้ว
Cleaning the glass on your wood burning stove is a quick and simple task that doesn't require any special supplies - all you need is a bit of wood ash from the stove and water. Simply mix the ash with water or take a wet rag and dip it in the ash - a quick wipe of the glass takes all of the residue off. Wiping with plain water afterward will make it good as new.

Hello. I recently discovered your TH-cam channel and enjoyed watching the videos related to raising lambs. I have a question: why don't you keep some of the ewes to breed? In this way you would have your own lambs. 3 or 4 ewes and 1 ram is more than enough for a good start. All the best from overseas!

Hello! Glad you found us - we actually did breed them last fall and each ewe had a lamb. The smallest ewe is the lamb of one of the others (and the brown wether is the other baby). We had to process our ram due to aggression and got a bottle ram as a replacement. If all goes well we’ll put them together in about a month for spring lambing. We got some footage of this years lambing but time got away from us! Hopefully we get a video out this time around.

Life is so much safer and tranquil when you get rid of a ram you cannot turn your back on. I had a Suffolk ram that even my uncle could not back down. That day that ram went to butcher.Your ram must not have been much of a ram if he was throwing singles. I had a small flock was averaging right around 200 percent lambing rate. I think our conditions were similar. I live over 5,000 feet in Wyoming. I am retired from the flock now. Sometimes I really miss them. Guess that is why I watch so many videos of sheep. Best wishes.
