Hello James I have been playing the handpan for an hour every day for almost 3 years now and have bought a few handpans during this time. Among other things, I also own the Neotone Mutant handpan. The Neotone handpan is brilliant for all keys and digital nerds. However, to start with, I would definitely recommend a D Kurd 10 because it gives you so many more options for percussion. It is worth buying a slightly more expensive handpan, preferably from a local handpan maker, or even better, if you have the opportunity, buy a good used one from a trustworthy person. Absolute newbie to Hanpan so currently watching and listening to lots of different models. Saw and enjoyed your video on the Neotone. Question: Do you regard the Neotone as suitable for a complete novice? Or rather an acoustic Handpan? Appreciate the touch experience is going to be completely different, but the non metallic touch is appealing. Also seems maybe the Neotone could be more forgiving initially? Many thanks.

Hello Marc, great that you are starting this kind of „Starter Videos“. I like the metapher of a „Wave motion“ a lot. Also the „Relaxation“ plays a hugh role. It takes a while that Starter loose there Tension. May be think of a Video to „Placement of the Handpan“? I think correct Striking will be the third Element. First … Relax and release Tension. Second … Placing the Handpan. Third … Striking to reach a brilliant nice sound. Keep going, have fun an take good care. Cheers … Stefan

I don’t know how hard it is to change scales on the fly, but being able to shift mid-song would be great for more complex progressions. I also love the idea of using this as a midi controller for drum kits. Seems it would be more intuitive and playable for me than typical finger pads.

Is it worth it as your one and only, since you can change the scale and basically have endless handpans in one instrument?

It seems like a great deal for people who want handpans in different scales-- you save so much money. Also the triggering you can do as well is priceless.

i would love to try it by myself, i own a handpan and cant imagine how a electronic midi pad will come close to this .

I had a Neotone - the instrument is interesting, especially great is that you have all the scales you could dream of. The biggest problem for me was that to get a good sound, you need exceptionally expensive and professional speakers - otherwise, the sound gets lost and is not at all clear, so playing on the street is out of the question because the instrument loses its beauty. It is best suited for professional musicians who don't have to spend a large amount on speakers just to play the instrument and who want to combine this instrument with the music they create.

I started playing on 12+1 handpan. It took me 6 months to be cover and touch every note... When searching for a different handpan to combine, I want it from 10 notes. It gives challenges but a lot variation and spectrum. Thank you for sharing🧘🙏💝
