    I've been banking with HSBC for years. The forex rate with HSBC is bad. From experience, whilst HSBC don't explicitly disclose a fee, it is included in their spread. The (former) Citibank and Mastercard rates are much better. I've experimented making international transactions using the both the HSBC card and other Forex free cards (e.g. CBA, NAB, etc) at the same time and found HSBC to be more expensive by ~1-3% after conversion.

    Financial stability does not depend on how much you earn, but rather on how you manage your spending. Happiness does depend on financial stability and does not depend on how much you earn. Otherwise, all high income earners are happy people which is illogical.

    The best thing about using a debit card is - if it gets compromised, the thieves can only use the balance. Keep the balance really small and transfer across what you need for the day. Rare tip: Some debit cards do not have a cash withdrawal trans fee if the machine is located in a shopping mall. Great for travelling and foreign exchange if you choose the right one. Choose one that notifies you as soon as there is a transaction. My preference is the UP Card.

    HSBC global account uses HSBC's own foreign exchange rate which is worse than Visa or MasterCard rates. No one can predict how the Forex is gonna move in the future so there's not much point in switching to a different currency. ING has the best interest rate, HSBC has the best cash back. But they require $1000 and $2000 deposit each month respectively. I'd rather just go with ING for the high interest savings account

So, it's been hard to find good banking options, especially since we're used to getting a lot of benefits in Europe. We also loved your video about high-interest savings, thanks again for that! We were wondering if there's any particular joint account option that we can open, or if we should just stick to one of the names you already mentioned.

      @IreneZhu 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad you found the videos on debit cards and high-interest savings helpful! For joint accounts, some of the banks mentioned in my debit card video do offer flexible joint accounts, which could be a good option for you both to manage expenses together, such as HSBC or ING. I'd recommend checking their eligibility requirements to confirm they align with your residency status. Alternatively, sticking to individual accounts from one of the recommended options might also work well if joint eligibility becomes an issue. Let me know if there are any other topics you'd like me to cover-I'm here to help make your time in Australia a bit easier🙂

Big international company like Philips morris has partnered up with them since donkeys years! 12 years now with them as their premier customer, and their security systems trump all big 4, although APRA CPS 234 compliance is a must but most Aussie mobile app has no security feature like global banking.

    Great video as usual. I know you said that you don’t use credit cards, but I wish you do a similar video comparing credit cards. Using them well is more advantageous than using debit cards. Some credit cards offer rewards that you can redeem for flights, products or even cash backs, and 55 interest free days. This means that instead of paying for your purchases straight away with your debit card, you can leave the money in the bank earning interest, and up to 55 days later pay the credit card balance in full avoiding any interest. Also, once you accumulate enough points you can redeem them. They also offer other perks like extended warranty for products, travel insurance, product discounts, etc. By the way, Macquarie bank decreased their interest offering to their transaction account to 2.75% interest per annum, and increased the interest to their saving account to 5% for balances up to $1 million. Their savings account for the first 4 months is 5.50% for balances up to $250K

      Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video😃. The tried-and-true strategy for beginner investors is to invest at least 20% into broad market index funds each month, regardless of where the market is-this is called Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA). This approach can help avoid the stress of timing the market and allows the investments to grow steadily over time. If you're interested in starting out, I have some videos that might be helpful! Hi Irene! :) With the ME Bank option, will I get the bonus interest rate if I deposit the money directly to my HomeME account from an external bank account, or do I need to deposit it to the SpendME account first/instead? If it is the latter, will I still get the bonus interest rate if I transfer the deposit from my SpendME account to my HomeME account or if in case I decide to use the money in my SpendME account? Thank you!❤

      Hello! The monthly requirements to get the bonus interest are as follows: 1. Deposit $2k+ into your SpendME account (it has to hit this transaction account first; after that, it doesn't matter as long as you meet the 2nd criteria) 2. End of the month balance in the HomeMe account is higher than the balance of the previous month before the interest received) The mobile app doesn't tell you if the criteria has been met, but recently they introduced online banking (web login), which does tell you.

    Non of those conditions interest me and if I’m giving them my money has to be no conditions. ING held my family members money with no interest and refused to give me the sign up moneys had to go to aftca for pain and suffering compensation.

    A couple things you didn't factor in that are very important: 1. Assume a higer LVR at 90% (add LMI to your calculations) 2.Continue to assume a 3% return on property after inflation... but that annualised return is on the geared (borrowed) funds. 3. Assume a $100,000 deposit for a $1,000,000 purchase with a 3% return. Your $100,000 investment, thanks to gearing, now returns 30% 4. Yes, gearing does mean that any losses on property are also multiplied - but there's a reason banks will lend 90% of the value on a residential property and not on other asset classes 5. There are significant tax advantages to owning your own home. You did mention stamp duty as a cost, but there's no CGT when you sell your home. If you buy right you can sell at retirement and downsize. 6. Balanced portfolio - you are already investing 11% of your total income into other asset classes through Super - also very tax effective. But mainly - you didn't account for the accumulated benefits of gearing with reference to purchasing a property through borrowed funds.

      To me, PPoR is not an asset (rather an utility or even a liability), therefore return was not considered.

    here a scenario where a couple pay a house of in 4 years.. I did it in 3. Average income single 75, couple 140k. buy in a regional town close to work for 450k 3 bedroom brick house 1970s build. serviceable, can be renovated to add value but otherwise good condition. there buils are 35k a year. leaving 110k to save. they save 20% deposit in a year. they buy and move in. they now save 120k per year. with a 340 k mortgage. they pay the house off in 3 years. they now have 140k to live on... do this twice and in 8 years, sell both and you'll have a paid off house in Sydned in 8 years vs 30 years.
