Greatest JAM Female Sprinter of A-T: Tournament of Champions (Round 1, Heat 6)
Our quest to find the greatest Jamaican female sprinter of all-time continues with a stride-off between a short sprinter who, at her absolute best, would have been queen in just about any other country outside of her own and the US and a smart sprint hurdler who had a pace-setting junior career.

      Understand where you are coming from, @jomohector5274. I'm still scratching my head regarding Terrelonge's performance as well. She seems to have lost a lot of fitness since storming that 11.1 at Nationals. When these things happen while an athlete is representing the country either coach or management should address it publicly. As for the athlete, we have to try and grant them grace because they are still kids. Not much logic in how Jamaican athletes, their coaches, and team management treat the mixed 4x4. You often have athletes whose medal prospects in the individual event are very slim passing on the mixed when a solid leg from them would virtually guarantee a medal. China's Ailixier Wumaier, one of the favourites for gold in the individual 400m, turned in one of the fastest splits to lead his team to bronze. If he can do it, it makes you wonder what is the problem with our top 400m athletes doing likewise. Our approach to relays, generally, needs to change. But that's a hard sell in cultures as individualistic as ours.

If you knew anything about the history of track & field you'd know that America has always been talking crap.You always said something, especially your athletes. That's documented. At the end of the day, your Gabby thomas is half Jamaican, Sanya Richards Ross and many others. You're welcome. Dina asher Smith of Great Britain, amazing sprinter. Jamaican parents. If you knew how heavy our influence was you'd see differently and show more respect. Julien Alfred who won gold for St Lucia against Sha'carri went to school in Jamaica. I was watching a video of that disgraceful Ben Johnson was saying that he is better runner than Bolt and, was talking a lot of crazy stuff. He and the rest of Jamaican athletes who refused to representing their country of birth, they only became jealous of the successful achievements. That saw what the Jamaican athletes is making on the world stage, they are showing those athletes and people .That you don't haveto lived in a different country or representing them, that they can living in Jamaica 🇯🇲 and making more money than them .Also living a better life than them and, some of them is only jealous now. That after they finished their careers, they are only trying to identifying themselves as Jamaica 🇯🇲. We does not appreciated that, when you looked at Marlene otty, Veronica Campbell Brown, Donald Quarrie, just to mentioned a few of them who is living in foreign countries and go back home to representing their country of birth. They should be commended for their true dedication to their country of birth, they are very patriotic to their country of birth but. I personally does not respect the rest of them and, anyone it hurts . Well I don't really cares at all, that it offended anyone of them because it is gospel truth ok.

    Do you know that not one of those athletes with Jamaican connections like Oto Boland, he never talks like his mother is from Jamaica 🇯🇲 and other athletes. That is why I don't rates him at all, and Jamaica 🇯🇲 athletes who represent their country has done far better them that represent other countries. Just like Ben Johnson his name should have struck off the registrar of Jamaica 🇯🇲, plus the ioc and the Canadian government should apologized to the government and people of Jamaica 🇯🇲. Because he never run for Jamaica 🇯🇲 over his career and his parents told Ben Johnson, that he cannot run for his country and he ran for Canada 🇨🇦. Where his coach was feeding him on drugs and he was banned for taking drugs, he wasn't representing Jamaica 🇯🇲 at the time. When they caught him cheating by taking drugs, the worthless Canadian government ministers them distances themselves from Ben Johnson, when he was caught cheating. What really pisses me off big time, is when they caught Ben Johnson cheating by taking drugs. The ioc refused to called Ben Johnson Canadian they was calling him Jamaican when he wasn't running for the country, because his parents strongly believed. That not representing Jamaica 🇯🇲 he is going to be much better off than running for his birth country, and he wasn't running for Jamaica 🇯🇲 at the time I was watching the race.Any one who was born in Jamaica 🇯🇲 and refused to representing their country of birth because of their parents, anything thing happened to them disgraceful to them. They shouldn't be classified as Jamaican at all, they should be classified as the country that they are representing. The Jamaican government should demands a letter of apology from the ioc and also Canada 🇨🇦 and, if they refused from do so plus damages the reputation of the country. Also if they refused from doing so, then you both of them to the world court.When you looked at the athletes who represent Jamaica 🇯🇲 has done far better than the athletes who represent other countries and, also making far more money. Also not them of them will never reached up to the standard as Bolt and Shelly Ann Fraser Price, Jamaica 🇯🇲 maybe small but Tallawah. I know that you have some cyber bullies out there, that when you speak the gospel truth about the whole scenario. It upset some of them because the truth really hurts, those people who refused to representing the country of their birth, their names shouldn't be mentioned in Jamaica 🇯🇲 history.

      Thanks for sharing, @alwalsh6726! The focus was on athletics for this one, of course . However, it would be fascinating to extend this on a sport-specific basis. There are so many famous/great boxers of Jamaican descent. Frank Bruno, David Haye and Chris Eubank spring to mind.

    Honestly, because we're a patriotic country we always salute our athletes, but the government of Jamaica 🇯🇲 makes.a lot of empty promises to them and never fulfilled any as far as I know. So all she did was look out for herself and her future. I was listening to Asafa Powell the other day, the athletes are still waiting over 10 years for land that was promised them. I can't blame her. To each his own.

    • @mondomusings876
      @mondomusings876 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I fully agree with you regarding athletes making decisions based on what they believe to be in the best interest of themselves and their families. I think just about every athlete would prefer to represent a country where the people are as emotionally invested in them and their performances as Jamaicans are - whether it leads to praise or cussing. However, for some, understandably, other factors, especially the financial investment that sponsors in some other countries are able/willing to make, outweighs everything else. It's just a reality of life.

    You missed out Tessa Sanderson, born in Jamaica. She was also the first British woman to ever win a field gold medal in the Javelin at the 1984 Olympic Games. Dina Asher Smith, 200 metres World Champion in 2019 whose parents are both Jamaican.

      Thanks for checking out the content, @mistertibbs2280. Featured Asher-Smith in an earlier video, "10 Famous Athletes Whose Jamaican Roots May Surprise You". Seriously considered Tessa Sanderson for that video, but ultimately opted to squeeze someone else in. It always, unfortunately, comes down to a numbers game.

    • @mondomusings876
      @mondomusings876 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would be an interesting exercise, @asabifatosin1150. Think it would require genealogical research that most of the athletes themselves probably haven't had done yet. Based on the research that's out there, most, more than likely, can trace their roots to the Akan.

    If jamaica did as a good a job governing ourselves as we did in sports, so many of us wouldnt have to flee jamaica to other countries. Then there wouldnt be so many people born outside of jamaica with jamaican "roots"

    • @Sammieannliz25
      @Sammieannliz25 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is impossible because the island is not big enough to accommodate all of us Jamaicans.They're more Jamaicans living abroad than in the country itself.
