Idaho Got Redder, Big Voter Turnout, and the Best Comfort Treat
For this Friday news roundup, host Lindsay Van Allen and Boise State Public Radio’s Jimmy Dawson (www.boisestatepublicradio.org/people/james-dawson) are digging further in to statewide election results. Idaho had a significant red wave this week, with several legislative seats flipping from Democrats to Republicans (www.boisestatepublicradio.org/politics-government/2024-11-06/gop-democrat-watch-party-proposition-one-idaho) during a year of record turnout. (idahocapitalsun.com/2024/11/07/with-over-900k-ballots-cast-idaho-broke-voting-records-in-2024-general-election-initial-data-show/?emci=9fa307a3-789c-ef11-88ce-000d3a98fa6b&emdi=20bad932-089d-ef11-88ce-000d3a98fa6b&ceid=110871) We’re processing Prop 1’s decisive failure, (www.idahostatesman.com/news/politics-government/election/article295007519.html) and wondering what a new addition to the state constitution will mean. And, we’re considering what could come next with the Republican supermajority in the upcoming 2025 legislative session.

We will turn this Stae of Idaho Blue just look at the BSU football field. Go Blue. Go Kamala. Semper Fi. !969 to 1972 USMC
I’m not convinced that Boise and the rest of Idaho have a lower cost of living than California and other states because the local residents don’t earn enough money to afford the ever increasing costs associated with renting an apartment or a house because their Idaho wages are lower than the wages in other big blue states. There is also the costs of food and transportation fuels for vehicles that are not as affordable as many people would say it is.
There is no doubt to me that this is an attempt to widen the pool so that less votes go to conservatives and more go to the liberal, that's what would happen based on that I believe that this is an attempt to change Idaho's social and tax landscape in a bad way. Also the benefits that he's trying to explain Are just hypothetical And they don't work out that way Usually
That cop you are talking about should be charged with assault.
Brian has not been convicted
Will it just be system to make money? And really does nothing for public safety.
Soon it will be AI cameras on every street corner. Big brother is coming.
this is all BS .
Could you please name those convicted? These folks need some Sam Harris. Some Cheryl Wheeler music. Appalling!! That poor family and kids
What is Idahoians major malfunction.
What about far left communists and Antifa, how come you're not worried about that ?!
Because “Antifa” and “US communism” are false controversies contrived to scare and control gullible people. Just look at all those poor shmucks signing over their social security checks to a self proclaimed billionaire convicted fraud cuz they live in Fox/Newsman silo and have weak or questionable moral integrity. WAKE UP. THE RIGHT IS LYING TO YOU.
Take a look at the MAGA faction that took over the once conservative GOP. It was once around 20%. Now that number or those supporting that agenda appear around 80%. I think the threat of Christian Nationalism is the same. We saw something similar transform I'm Germany during Hitler, including support from Corpirations and businesses.. something that Moscow seems to be promoting as well. Troy*
Christians have no rational grounds for criticizing the wild crazy ideas of other Christians. The central tenet of Christianity is the Resurrection. The second law of thermodynamics, just by itself, proves that the resurrection never occurred. Obviously, it is a legend created by credulous, superstitious, ignorant, largely illiterate peasants & plebeians in Roman Palestine. Along with dozens of other legends. Yet christians promote irrational, magical thinking, and claim it can never be questioned. No christian has rational grounds to challenge any other Christian’s belief, or indeed the belief of any religious nutter.
This land was used as a Dry Cleaners for years and was never uses for housing. and there is very little parking here. It is a joke that a hundred people could live and park there. And office might be better due to parking.
Doug Wilson… isn’t that the guy that got spanked in a debate with Christopher Hitchens?
Better Christian nationalists than the post-modern psychotic left. Both groups are a bit nuts, but the left has completely lost touch with reality don't even know what a woman is and if they disagree they use every insult ist/phobe they can, to slander you and shut you up. If I disagree with the Christian nationalists, I can have a discussion with them, and they aren't going to attack me just try and convince me.
spittin' facts!
I know that a safe house in Austin Texas did both of those things
Idaho has been The Skinhead/ Christofascist/ End Times State for years now. Along with Utah and it's dominant religious cult of Kolob & some ancestral creep they call Smith.
I left Idaho for the last time in 1991. It was insane then. Idaho is a hotbed for Meth, guns and white nationalism. Seems nothing has changed, they have long wanted to take over Idaho. Their ideology runs afoul of the Gospel of Christ' teachings but that doesn't matter to them. It is a movement that has crept into every facet of Idaho, North, South, East and West. It is a creeping cancer on our nation.
Just listened to the podcasts. Great work. Calendars a reminder to check online each Wednesday for new episode
This movement is dangerous. Bibles, guns and ignorance. Very Republican.
I am going up to Moscow to start a secular ruckus, who wants to party?
Christian Nationalism is the most un-American thing I can imagine. Get your religion away from my personal liberty.
Who knew? Thanks for reporting on this terrifying situation! Sad, but christian nationalist are not real Christians. They try to use God’s name and God’s word to get what they want. They won’t win, but cause misery to everyone near them. Those evil people will never compromise, and they will never give up because they are inspired by “the evil one”!
“With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion.” Steven Weinberg
I have about 20 vinyl records put out by public high schools from the 1960s to the 1980s. They have explicitly Christian lyrics and their songs and titles that describe the Christian content. These things were allowed up until about the 1990s. Who are the squatters? It's not that Christian nationalist have suddenly appeared that forces made them disappear all of a sudden and now the re-emergence is re-spun.
Enjoy a Protein Puck, one and all.
I live in the Northwest and Boise has always reminded me of a worse version of Spokane. Which is already pretty bad but at least Spokane is a bit more scenic.
Boise has nothing to do with this and has an actual music scene. You can call Spokane a dump all you want, I haven't seen it since I was in grade school. But my city is beautiful and has smart, vibrant, and creative people. Every electrical box along the road has been painted in its own unique way. We love art here. We have nothing to do with christofascism. If you hate Boise, don't come here. You probably wouldn't appreciate watching bands like Built to Spill for free in someone's basement.
Boise is ultra squalid. Most people live in OLD trailers. Only about half the roads are paved. It's just all potatoes, everywhere. That's all people do. Grow potatoes and talk about them. Crime is worse than Baltimore. Most goes unreported, because the police don't care. The ghetto has no police presence at all. Mile after mile of homeless encampments. Used needles everwhere. And you NEED to be armed, because there are Mexican cartels watching your car the minute you cross the border.
Another word for a spiritual battle that turns into a crusade is "jihad." Christian nationalists are basically Y'all Qaeda.
Being in a liberal town would enable the Christian nationalists to go full throttle on the persecution narrative that seems so vital to their movement. "Look, Ethel, another pride flag! They're coming for our children!"
I regularly say that Idaho is too red to function. Republican legislators are happy being the complacent majority, and they will fight this not because it’s a partisan issue, but because it will mean that they will have to prove their worth to the people against other more-viable candidates
Great interview, even tho I'm in Florida now.
Here's a good video by Lincoln Project they're Former GOP, good conservatives talking about how scary Christian nationalist project 2025 actually is th-cam.com/video/7zkZYwZieLg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9n4Rcrhesz1HX9o2

The most un-Christian people imaginable.
Nope. You are all irrational. Irrational thinking --> irrational action.
TAX the churches 😮
I'm waiting for the Scientologist Christian nationalist Mormons to start their own little who celebrates the Sabbath Saturday versus Sunday Wars. This right here is why religion does not need to be in our schools or politics not everybody believes what they want us to believe. Especially not the way they treat women😢
Way past that
@@qjtvaddict Exactly they should be Audited and Indicted
They shouldn't be running businesses but their schools are for profit and I'd bet the half of downtown Moscow they bought are businesses. But then its not like American law has ever held christians to any standard of any kind.
@@qjtvaddict Its never way past that. Just because it should have happened from day one does not mean it should not happen right now, or tomorrow.
"Christian" Nationalism is literally working to destroy democracy in America...they want Authoritarian Theocracy established, with a monarchal power structure like the dreadful Roman Catholic Church uses where the Pope/God/King is the law, and infallible.
We don't dispute the separation of church and state, the issue is that the modern version isn't representative of what its historically meant. I'm what would be considered a Christian Nationalist who doesn't like Doug Wilson, but many of these complaints are pretty unfair. 1. The US government has an "Educational Empire". 2. The violence argument rings hollow given things like the Trans Day of Revenge; this type of language is increasing from both sides. And "violent" language is used in all political discourse and in the Bible. 3. The Jan 6th thing is hyper polarized just like the BLM protests. 4. Aren't you saying their worldview is evil and harmful to America? 5. The sexual assault stories are your best arguments, however that issue spans every organization that is related to children. The issue with the submission argument could be applied to any hierarchical structure.
I have no idea what most of your bullet points even mean. And I tried. However, there are many strong arguments against Christian dominionism, unless you want to throw out the Constitution and everything the founders said about religion. So don't call yourself a patriot if you're doing that. Fascism or support for a theocracy are all incompatible with proclaiming yourself a patriot.
Cute attempt at downplaying
@@qjtvaddict I like the 'everybody does it' excuses.
Yes, their worldview is evil and harmful, not only to America
I always thought Idaho Was a Cristian Nationalist State? This isn’t new.
On the contrary, we are the only state in history to physically kick a hate group out of our state. Go pick on Mississippi where the majority are like that not the cluster of morons who move to North Idaho from all over the country. They're not our fault. They're coming from your state, probably. Sure its a red state. But "strange fruit" has never grown from our trees. And sure the republicans are vicious here, but again, no Strange Fruit.
As a native of Boise Idaho, no.
Idaho was always "Republican" and had a high rate of religiosity, but the people used to be much more friendly and welcoming than today.
What about the mormons? Tell us what you know about the mormons! Does Idaho have any mormons, expert? Are mormons christian nationalists, expert?
😂😂😂
Christians that believe our nation comes first is a good thing.
That's what good Germans said in the 1930s.
Will be likely moving to Boise this year, I have adhd and have trubbs making friends.
Love to hear lefties panicking about being called out on their sin.
must be fun being a bigot.
What sin would that be?
@JSmith-pb6fw go cast your vote for mumbles, reprobate.
God isn’t real and zealous religious people are irrational maniacs. Very bad for a free and forward-looking society.
Republicans are the party of hypocrisy and projection.
No such thing as Christian nationalists. You've been brainwashed by the demonrats in office! Stop believing and spreading lies!
Beware the right wing takeover of our government.
Are you familiar with the Powell Memo?
Hasn't this been true for decades? I believe I have been hearing about this as far back as the 90s or earlier.
In the 90s a hate group bought land and terrorized the locals until they were booted out by court order. Since then, it hasn't been a hotbed of hate up until Trump came along and riled all the conservatives in the country. You act like its our fault. Maybe if NY had ever held Trump to any legal standard in his long con-artistry career he'd never have been in any position to have run for prez in the first time. Yes, I"m aware of him finally getting convicted recently, *but they've had FIFTY years.*
Did you say it has been tucked into the dark corners of "our" country with a straight face? There's always an enemy within because it justifies demagoguery. The term "Christian nationalist" is silly, both when self-applied or used as a frightening fairy tale, because one must ask, "as opposed to what"? Are "Christian nationalist" a threat to atheist globalists? Or Buddhist anarchists? Or Catholic distributists who belive in localism & subsidiarity? So much for "multi-culturalism".
