    The same problem happens to me repeatedly. The internal battery in my XT3 was replaced at Fuji service and worked for exactly 8 months. Then again the exact same problems. The Fuji service only guarantees the repair for 6 months and their suggestion is to send it in again for replacement at a new charge. I am considering selling the whole fuji device just because of the service. Not to mention that it took the service 4 weeks to replace the battery. I have a lot of fujinon lenses and still have the xt5, but if this is how the service responds, I'm seriously thinking about changing equipment. Canon has never had this problem in all my years of use.

    Thanks a lot for the ideas! I also just got the idea - after many many hours of thinking aobut it - that the third party batteries might be the issue. Do you know, if one fujifilm battery can also "heal" the camera after having used it with third battery batteries? Or is the camera already too damaged to fix it with the original battery? That way, I could finally re-use the x-t3 in my professional life, which I haven't used for a long time due to the resetting.

    Hi Erin, bought an xt3 about a month ago, it doesnt look as if it has been used at all! Started having this problem a cple of days ago. It would reset, sometimes a full reset and sometimes restting but keeping the settings. Doesn't matter what batteries. It sometimes resets when turning the power off & on without changing the battery. Anyway, i will try your recommendation for charging the internal camera battery overnight thru USB but can i do this using my cellfone charger instead of the computer?

    • @therealdeemz_
      @therealdeemz_ 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't recommend it, as most cellphone chargers don't have the regulators and current protectors provided to charge the X-T3 safely

    • @erinolearyphoto
      @erinolearyphoto 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you mean just a wall adaptor instead of the computer, it should be okay, just make sure it's got enough power to actually charge it. Of course, @therealdeemz_ says it might not be good for the camera, so I guess it really depends on the power supply and if you want to take the risk.

    I live in Ottawa and it's pretty tough to find any polaroid film in stores. Instax is much easier to find, especially the mini double packs.

    • @erinolearyphoto
      @erinolearyphoto 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, when it comes to Polaroid film, I usually have to order it off the internet because it's only available in photography stores, whereas Instax I can pick up in most electronic stores and pharmacies, such as Rossmann. I still find ordering film in both formats to be a bit cheaper though since you can buy them in bulk when you order from the internet.

    Being a great polaroid lover and collector, i'm sad to say that the current polaroid is crap compared to pre 2008 polaroid film. I like unpredictability too but i expect that from cheap, heavily expired film, not from expensive fresh film. Currently, instax film in a proper non fujifilm camera with filters is the best option. It lets ME decide what artistic expressions i want.

    • @erinolearyphoto
      @erinolearyphoto 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I couldn’t agree more! Looking to build a pinhole for my instax film so I can have the best of both worlds, something a little artistic and experimental with some reliable film 😉 it’s such a shame what happened to Polaroid…. When I see old shots I’m shocked at the difference really.

    • @MrLennart1976
      @MrLennart1976 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@erinolearyphoto That sounds interesting, i've never seen it used in pinhole. if you have access to 3d printing i can recommend the cartidges that lets you use instax wide in packfilm cameras. More work than a straight up camera conversion, you have to load them in a darkroom/darkbag but also much cheaper. Amazing that even very cheap low end vintage cameras like colorpack 80 loaded with instax will outperform some of the new polaroid ones. Using cameras like 600SE, Land 350, or 110a with a warmup filter really makes instax film shine.

    • @erinolearyphoto
      @erinolearyphoto 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MrLennart1976 yes! I actually built a camera over the summer and used a dark bag to load it, but I could only load one image at a time. Since then, I picked up a jolly look so I can repurpose the manual film development crank into my own pinhole camera. I love the concept, but it’s indeed quite a bit of work. I’m hoping a 3D printer might help so I can also experiment with other formats like instax square or wide, but let’s see. Gotta take it one step at a time. 😉 I like the ideas about the Polaroid pack film! I’ll have to look into it a bit more. Really interesting!

  • @TheFarCentre

    I’ve tried Polaroid Go and iType as well as Instax Mini and Square. Instax Square is by far the best. It develops much faster and colours looks true to life with good skin tones and contrast. Polaroid colours look terrible (greenish colour cast, a little blurred, and dull blacks) and I had trouble with fractal snowflake defects appearing in the corner of the images. Mine didn’t look retro they just looked bad. I think Polaroid should just scrap their current chemistry and start from scratch. The fact that it takes 15 mins or so to develop and needs to be kept in the dark at a precise temperature means it can’t really be called instant film. Instax just works quickly without any babysitting and looks great.

    • @erinolearyphoto
      @erinolearyphoto 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I completely agree with you there! It's such a shame they can't seem to get their act together and create something consistent. Maybe it's time for them to reinvent themselves, but at the same time, I highly doubt they will. I love shooting Instax Square as well! What camera did you use for it? I have the SQ6 and the Square printer, but I do find that the printer handles the colors a bit better than the camera, though the printer is also much newer than the camera.

    • @TheFarCentre
      @TheFarCentre 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@erinolearyphoto I’ve got a SQ6 and it’s strangely better specked than their new cameras, I really like it so far. To be fair to Polaroid I’ve heard good things about their new formula black and white film so I will try that before I give up on them. I do like the larger size prints. I also think my issues with colour might be made worse by the UK’s cold weather.

    Hey there. Have you found that when you rurn on the xt3 it will sometimes stay off and not power on? I also experience the reset problem you mention, but in addition my xt3 will not turn on sometimes even with a charged battery unless i remove and reinsert the battery. This used to happen only when the camera would power itself off from the power saver feature, but now it's occurring often, sometimes multiple times a shoot. Any thoughts or experience with this?

      I had the exact same problem too. Sometimes it will just turn off even when the battery is charged and I have to take the battery out and reinsert it to get it to turn on. I created an updated video here: th-cam.com/video/3vOv-xjUtzw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OSCkJca-d7P_6REL It goes a bit more in depth about the internal battery problem and some things you can do to help it. I have used both. Until I got a MiNT SX-70 refurbished camera I was shooting more with Instax but frustrated with the camera quality that Instax offers. I have manual control of the MiNT SX-70 and love the shots I get with it, I can shoot 600 and 160 film. The new 600 B&W film from Polaroid is fantastic. The Instax film is more “clinical” while the Polaroid film is more artsy. There is a place for each, but I have fallen in love with Polaroid again.

  • @WhimsicalGrain
    @WhimsicalGrain 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Great breakdown! I completely agree that Polaroid and Instax photos offer very different experiences. Polaroid definitely has that authentic vintage vibe, but it can be a bit tricky for beginners to work with. When I’m feeling creative, I reach for Polaroid. But when I just want to shoot for fun without worrying about factors like heat, lighting, or sun, Instax is my go-to. One major downside of Polaroid today is that the formula isn’t the same as it used to be-many of the original chemicals are no longer available, so the modern film can be quite inconsistent, just like you mentioned. Plus, Polaroid film doesn’t handle heat well; you need to store it in a dark, cool spot to avoid poor color quality. I bought my first Polaroid over 40 years ago, and back then, the photos were much more vibrant and reliable.

    • @erinolearyphoto

      So true! I’m the same when it comes to using Polaroid or Instax. Am I feeling artsy and creative? It lasts a really long time! If you use it continuously on a full charge it might only last a few hours, which is what happened to me when I was photographing the Berlin Wall. But with normal use, I find I use it quite a bit without having to charge it very often. For example, I probably took it out 4 or 5 times before having to charge it again. The longer you keep the LCD screen on, the faster the battery will die (same with using it in cold weather), but if you turn down the brightness or turn it off when it’s not in use, it should last a good amount of time.

      I created an updated version to this video here: th-cam.com/video/3vOv-xjUtzw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BFevVgYkNV4RuQei Yes, it’s the internal battery for sure. Did u buy the camera secondhand? I got a quote from Fuji and they said it would cost somewhere around 280€ here to fix… but if you just bought it. It’s such a shame bc this seems to be an ongoing problem with MANY Fuji cameras…. Also you can try charging it with the computer directly and also buying a new original Fuji battery for it. Those might be some quick fixes if you don’t want to invest in the repair yet.

      @DanClapp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@erinolearyphoto Yes, I bought it second-hand. I tried charging it with the cable, but as soon as I take out the battery it resets. I suppose it's just something I have to live with, I would rather invest $280 in another body. I might try my luck registering the camera and then contacting Fuji to see what they say, but I imagine they will give me a similar quote. At this point it's clear that I just need to be careful not to take the battery out and only charge it with a cable.

    • @erinolearyphoto
      @erinolearyphoto 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @DanClapp I completely agree about investing the money into another body instead of repairing the camera. That’s kind of the point I’m at with my X-T3 too, but a new battery might also be worth a try (which is also a lot cheaper) because if the battery is dead then it won’t be able to recharge the internal battery to keep it from Resetting every time you remove the battery. If it’s a brand new battery, perhaps you can revive it so you Don’t have to carry around a cable the whole time. If it keeps happening, you could always just send the battery back to Amazon or return it and stick with your current system. Just a thought. If you try it out, please let me know if it helps not! Best of luck! 🤞🏻

      Glad you like it! I usually just put it in the windowsill for 2 weeks. It depends if your developing it yourself or sending it off, but usually a min of 2 weeks is best before development to make sure it’s dry.

    It just happened to my xt3 while playing with the AF settings, my battery went dead as I wasn't watching the level. Swap out a 3rd party battery with another 3rd party battery, it reset itself. Didn't happen when I changed the battery last time. Now I put in a Fujifilm battery, and will see if it reset itself tomorrow when I remove the battery. Side note: bad experience with various 3rd party battery. After a while, it either get bloated, or just drain much faster than Fujifilm original battery.

      That sounds frustrating. I can definitely relate. I've had the same problem even with the original battery from time to time, but mostly only if a.) I left the battery in the camera without using the camera for a long period of time or b.) If I accidentally remove the battery before turning the camera off properly. But yes, most of my 3rd party batteries don't last long at all these days.

    This happens on my X-T3 as well, I don't think it is because the camera is not turned off before removing the battery, it sometimes defaults to factory setting when the battery has not been removed .

    Thank you for your great content! I have been looking for this type of video for a long time. I have XE3 (same generation as XT3). Every time I turn on the device, it automatically goes to the settings screen. During the setup process, the device always shuts down, and this cycle repeats regardless of how many times I change the battery. As a result, I am unable to use the device for photography. Could you please advise me on how to resolve this issue?

    • @erinolearyphoto
      @erinolearyphoto 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have you tried to charge the internal battery directly by plugging the camera into your computer? That might help. Also are you using 3rd party batteries or original fuji batteries? If your batteries are old, it might be worth trying a new one in the camera to see if that helps. It also depends how often you use it. Sometimes when ny camera sits idol for a while, it has the same problem. You could also send the camera off to have the internal battery replaced, or at the very least get a price quote for the service. If it’s too high, or not worth the repair, then it might be time to upgrade the camera. All the best and I hope it starts working again for you soon!

My camera is clean , I use it a lot since I got it ; 2 years ago . I use Fuji batteries but I do have a 3rd party charger . I said “I wouldn’t have sent it in for just the q button , the reset happens at random and if it wasn’t happening I wouldn’t have sent it in at all “ I explained to them that it was probably the internal battery . I had a similar problem. I tried asking several professional before asking Fuji for a quote and they kinda just looked at me and said, “if it happens at random, who knows if they’ll even be able to diagnose the problem.” However, when I wrote Fuji and asked directly about the internal battery replacement, they gave me a quote for that. Please let us know if you do get the repair, if the issue is resolved and/or how long it lasts. I’m very curious to know if it’s worth repairing.

      @erinolearyphoto หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Suburb_hell unfortunately it doesn’t really tell you, but I think it’s best to charge it with the cable and the main battery inside the camera. The idea is that by using the cable, the camera receives a direkt charge as well as the battery, rather than depending on the interchangeable batteries to recharge the internal battery. I hope that makes sense.

    • @erinolearyphoto
      @erinolearyphoto หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Suburb_hell hi! Im not sure if there’s a way to tell if it’s charging from the camera itself. I usually just plug it in for a while. I think that when the batteries are old, they aren’t capable of charging it very well and therefore, plugging it in tends to work a bit better. I hope it works, or at least helps prolong the life of your camera. Such a shame that so many people are having the same issue. 😕
