    I chose data science instead as I found it easier but cybersec is deffo worth it if you're passionate. After 3 years of experience in data science, I'm now looking to go into either behavioural data science or quantitative research (financial trading).

  • @rev8739
    @rev8739 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I like the interview. What I wished he also covered was: 1.Its also a self fulfilling career. Where people who are really good at their job, especially in red-teaming, unironaclly become the very problem you are trying to stop. So similar to finance people, if you don't hire them, they'll become your problem. 2.The barrier to entry though is high for high earnings in the career field. A lot of people think getting a bachelor's is enough, or also getting a $300 certification (like sec+) might cut it. It doesn't. That is to possibly get a entry level job in cyber security, and even then a lot end up in something like IT infrastructure... You need 5 or 6 certifications and maybe a masters to really maintain a stable medium level career, depending on you field, or especially if you want a high earners income (ergo 150k or more). But, for the majority, you don't need more then a sec+ to get a job a 65k. So, if you are just trying to get a good job, this is the move, if you are trying to get a higher earnings job, you might find easier avenues else where. 3. A lot of your competition in Cyber Security is people who've been coding (like real language like C++ and Java) since they were 10 years old, and been on fourms like CryptBB or Nulled just as long. So stay humble when in this career field. 4. A good portion of Cyber Security jobs is government focused as of right now. Meaning a lot of times you will need a security clearance to work in government or work on government contracts. So if you have ever committed serious crimes like burglary or assult, or if you smoke dope, you are most likely not getting a clearance. But, there is still a lot that are not government based jobs. 5. There is many sectors in cyber security, and each focus is drastically different. You could be focused on cyber security policy making, you could be ethical hacking, you could be an exploit researcher, you could be a malware analyst, you could be a SOC analyst, you could be a threat hunter, etc... Even the field you are focused on matters. Ergo working a lot with medical, working a lot with fintech, working a lot of private industry, or government. 6. Math is an integral part of this career field, if you don't like math, you will hate it. Arguably more math than something in medical... Understanding discreet mathematics, understanding elliptical cryptography, quantum cryptography, numbers theory, boolean algebra, modular arithmetic (calculus), understanding formal methods, are all integral of this path.
