Just Intonation in MilkyTracker
มุมมอง 7K10 ปีที่แล้ว
Almost all modern music is played and recorded in 12-tone equal tempered tuning (12TET), i.e. the standard mapping from notes "A" through "G" onto constant frequencies. But it's impossible for such constant mapping to allow harmonically pure intervals, and indeed in 12TET all chord sound more or less dissonant. Especially major chords, where the major 3rd is about 14 cents too wide. It is possi...
Tyrian remix - Asteroid Dance part 2
มุมมอง 8K11 ปีที่แล้ว
New Tyrian remix! Maybe there will be more to come. I know the video is from asteroid 2, not 1, but that's what you get with arcade mode. Download available at: soundcloud.com/orbik/tyrian-remix-asteroid-dance Changed the title, as I got the name wrong, this is part 2
Tyrian, The Song & Rock Garden remakes compilation
มุมมอง 21K13 ปีที่แล้ว
Two of my Tyrian song remakes back in 2008, with gameplay, just because I don't like 'videos' made up of stills only. :p Downloads available at: soundcloud.com/orbik/tyrian-the-song soundcloud.com/orbik/rock-garden I was going to make remixes or remakes of the whole soundtrack but only 3 done. It's kinda harder than I thought.
Doom E3M3 on guitar

This is how I play the E3M3 level music from Doom by Bobby Prince. Using plenty of hammer-on-pull-off here as my picking hand isn't nearly fast enough.

Tyrian - Return me to Savara remix - with gameplay
มุมมอง 4.4K14 ปีที่แล้ว
First Savara level played with normal difficulty - nothing too fancy here, except the background music, which is my remix of the original. For the download, please visit: soundcloud.com/orbik/return-me-to-savara
How did you make that? Got midi files?
This is an excellent mix. I'm sorry it took me this long to find it.
Gosh I don't know how long it's been since I've heard this. I've had an itching to hear it again for what feels like years now, but my searches for it kept falling flat because I couldn't remember the name of the tuning or the tracker. Thank you for contributing this wondrous tune to a world that could hear it!
Probably the best sounding rearrangement of Tubelectric on TH-cam so far! Nice original twists. 👏✨
At first, I thought I might have heard some Pekka Pohjola influences in there, but now that I noticed you are from Finland, that might not be so far-fetched, after all. 😎 - Eero
nice
This is outright amazing.
This remix is really underrated for how good it is, needs more likes
This might be the best Tyrian remix I've ever heard! Amazing work.
This scratches my itch for synth music so good
fun remixe
11 years later, it's still one of the best Tyrian remixes out there.
OMG! That sound!
Cleared enemy platforms!!!
This rocks
Amazing piano and synth parts.. gosh this is fantastic
This is so awesome, so so awesome.
Nice version! 👍🏻
Sick
Hi I saw you on AA's comment section. I have got sort of a rightwing anime discord server. Leave a commento on my yt channel and I'll give you the link.
Awesome!
Very nice
Good luck!
Absolute masterpiece!!!
that girl from ipanema bit is so nice... interesting experiment! there should be more ventures into different tunings with chiptune.
That's absolutely mad!
Really good man. Quality.
This sounds like something out of the Drive ahead games.
The advantage of Just intonation is that the intervals are more accurate (aka less dissonance) ,but the dissadvantage is that it only sounds good in one key. If you want to play in a different key you have to retune it.
But what if you can easily re-tune on the fly for each played chord?
U have 12 different keyboards each tuned for each key
Funky.
WHOA can I get that Buy/Sell remix?! Sorry I'm a fan it sounded amazing.
Always happy to see an update to this channel. Quality over quantity, eh? This, too, is all around masterfully crafted and a real pleasure to listen to. Nice touch with the video being in sync too.
Really cool! And a happy upbeat tune as well. I suppose this is a 5-limit just intonation. Now do this with a composition in a 7-limit just intonation such as Centaur tuning! It's a twelve note unequal tuning/scale so no problems. Google it or check Xotla music to find the actual tuning, which is really good and balanced, especially for bluesy music. Other scales/tunings (Persian, Arabic) use 17 or more different notes at once (per octave) so a bit more complicated in these trackers. Fokker organs use 31 tones per octave scales, mostly equally tuned (31-equal) in meantone almost quarter comma, which is great for 11-limit slightly tempered music. Though i suppose you could tune them in optimal Miracle tuning as well. Or just intonation, 11- to 13-limit.
there's a tiny crumble of 7-limit at 1:41 and 1:45, otherwise 5-limit yeah, i think
Oh yeah... Rock Garden riff is THE SHIZNIT!
Best shootem' up game ever. There's nothing quite like it. Love this game.
I played with you today
Awesome 🔥 🔥!!
This is absolutely fantastic, on par with your cover of Tyrian's Asteroid Dance 2, perhaps even better!
Do you have an equal-tempered version of this? >_< I'm curious to hear the difference
Updated video description with links to 3 XM files. Be sure to use an accurate player, as some XM capable ones don't respect the exact behavior of fine tune commands. MilkyTracker at least is a safe bet.
Always lovin' your tunes
Fantastic.
the cent unit makes me laugh. easier to think in ratio like 7/4, 5/4 or 2^(3/12)etc...
Yeah i know, cent (2^1/1200) isn't the best unit, mina (2^1/2460) is much better and more accurate although larger units of tredek (2^1/270) might work as well for most purposes (270edo and tredek is probably my favorite), when we want good accuracy and consistency in the 13-limit, and do not care much about consistency or super accuracy for higher primes. For less accuracy but still much better accuracy than halftones (2^1/12), and for high consistency, moria (2^1/72) are really good. If mina isn't good enough we can get super high accuracy AND consistency with tina (2^1/8539). Look up the xenwiki for more detailed information, there are lots of other proposed logarithmic units for fine tuning intervals. Ratios are good for thinking about relative intervals, but not for absolute pitch, especially not when we want to transpose very much. While i like just intonation very much, with a good enough fine temperament (like (hemi-)ennealimmal e.g. or even an edo - equal division of the octave - like 270edo or 342edo) we can get a tuning sounding like just intonation for all practical purposes yet allowing for transposition and some subtle temperamental non-JI effects.
Why tyrian vids make so little views
It's a little known game sadly - it was made in the 90s by basically an indie developer who then distributed it as shareware.
@@technoguyx It was published by Epic though. And shareware usually makes games from that era more popular. I think it was lost in the sea of scrolling 2D shooters from that era. Plus those games were never particularly popular on their own. It is my favorite game from that genre though
The first time I rediscovered this game and heard the "Goodluck" voice line I had crazy nostalgia.
So the major part is in Just Intonation or close to it?
subbed. u gotta make more trax
The most impressive synth solo ever!!!!!!
You're assuming this was played on a keyboard, whereas in truth it's the result of punch-recording and editing over several hours. ;p It's kind of frustrating that even when there are virtuosos who could do this kind of stuff ex tempore, few listeners will know the difference...
@@orbik_fin yes, it's kinda sad(( but I think you would agree that if people SEE actual performance of a piece like this, it'll look very VERY impressive to them)) There is still a chance of confusing real guitar solo with GuitarPro playback or some other digital emulation. Well, no matter, the result is still cool!!! I can listen this record over and over again getting some new details. So, thanks, you are brilliant composer :D
@@orbik_fin Hey! It's been almost a year since I've heard this track for the first time... and I still go back to it very often)) Gotta point out amazing synth solo again, I just enjoy it so much)) Also taking a look at the Reaper project of this tune. Just want to say thank you. That is very educative and fun to dig into trying to learn to do such cool things) Do you have any musical education? Cause this track feels like a bit more advanced than what I've heard from amateurs. How did you learn (if it's not a secret:D)?
This screams 80s to me.
Why does this make me so happy
so nice!
Rock Garden is probably my favourite track in the game so it brings me no small amount of joy to see it done justice like this.
