Depending on the convention, you would file with each state you are collecting tax in and use their tax rate. Some conventions make you register with the state and some dont. NOT legal or financial advice, but I do know some people who just charge their regular state tax at the conventions that do not require you register with the state, and then they just file their normal taxes.

So, for safety eyes, I glue them in. I like to do that rather than work them in as I go sometimes so I can get the placement I want, especially if the pattern isn't super clear about eye placement, and I need to work the body a little to see where things are going to line up. I even use glue to help secure safety eyes that I work in as I go, in addition to the backing, for extra security.

Yes, so all my dragons are my snuggler pattern. It was one of the first prototypes for the pattern, before I added nostrils and figured out the wings. That's why that one is my little shoulder pet and not for sale.

I never been to a out of state con before I usually just go to cons locally in Illinois it’s been hard financially to get out of state now a days

It can be really difficult to begin moving out of state, so I always say start in surrounding states, and in the artist alley to keep costs down. When you hear that applications open for a show, you can generally research it by speaking to other vendors or looking for these types of artist alley vlogs to see if it may be a good fit for your work.

@@eclecticscribbles2 well I’m thinking about that aspect running a art business one day that’s something on my mind but not as of right now I would say it’s fun to table at cons but it does cost money to table at artist alley if ur selected of course but I been going to cons as a attendee for almost 5 years or so most of those years was at C2E2 in Chicago and love hanging out at artist alley and everyone around the industry is really sweet and that’s why enjoy meeting different artists if anything

I hope to apply and show at C2E2 in 2025, so maybe I will be at the next show to meet you. That is on my list for 2025 to attend. Fingers crossed

So for things like this, I have slightly different price points. For instance, if I make the same pattern in Parfait Chunky and Bernat Blanket, the one in the blanket yarn is going to vary in size quite a bit. The amount of materials I use is going to differ as well (more polyfil, bigger eyes) as the price of the yarn I used. Taking that all into consideration, there is usually I would say about a $2-5 difference when all is said in done between the smaller and the larger item, and that is how I price them. So as an example, a little pocket octo would sell for perhaps $8 in parfait chunky and $10 in bernat blanket, if that makes sense. But, yes, I do price them differently.

@ ya know, I don’t mind parfait chunky. Generally speaking it’s a nice chenille yarn. The color selection is one of the best I have seen. It’s on the thinner side. Definitely thinner than home slim or sweet snuggles light. The color choices are the trade off here. Home slim and sweet snuggles lite have a more limited palette. All 3 shed like crazy. I am more and more coming around to Bernat blanket as my main choice. It’s softer now than it once was and I enjoy the size of my makes being larger. They have a nice selection of colors and some beautiful variegated color options. Plus, most people can get what they need at the local Michael’s, Walmart, or Joann. Hope that answer helps

One of the factors that is called an "uncontrollable variable" is consumer taste and economic conditions, it definitely has a huge impact on what we can actually sell things at. There's so many considerations to take in, between supply & demand, and similar market values from competitors <3 the most we can hope for is that other artists with continue to grow the value of crochet items and not have them selling for so cheap.

I do understand the struggle. I usually have a sign placed near my crochet items that explains the factors that go into my pricing for items. This helps adjust that mindset that grandma sat and made it in her spare time to avoid the boredoms of old age. Another way to combat this issue is a little line on your price tag that reads, "Time to Make: _____" and including the amount of time you spent on the items. Lastly, if you are consistently selling out of something, generally speaking, your price is too low. Ideally, you want to "come close" to selling out with a proper price point. How long does your double pom hat take you to make? If you are selling out at $15 but nothing at $25, maybe bump to $20-22 based on the demand for that item. Just some ideas for you. Thank you for the comment. Also, my chickens do great at $20. I can't count the number of chickens I have sold this year. My mini chicken pattern goes for $18 with no problem and I sell keychain sized ones at $10 all day long. You can do this.

Yes! We have to collectively change the perceived value of our handmade items as a whole to change the average buyer's idea of what our items are worth.

Aww I am so sorry you had to go through that. It's so difficult to judge sometimes. Our concerns for her at this point is that nerves in her leg could start to have pressure put on them, and she could being to drag that leg. In regards to her mood and behavior, she is still her same self... but it is always so hard to know when they can say "I'm in pain" and of course we love them so much. They are our babies. ❤ So sorry for you loss.

Absolutely, I want this to be a safe space for everyone to feel relevant, seen and appreciated. I know I slip up from time to time because I am unlearning 30+ years of societal norms that pigeonhole people, but I do try to make sure and when I catch myself slip that I correct it. You're very much right, it costs absolutely nothing to be kind and make people feel seen. I know I am a cis white female who is straight passing, but I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community as well, and I know how it feels to be marginalized for that. And although I do sign off with that in a cutesy/playful sort of tone, I very much mean it.
