Declarative Agents let you extend Microsoft 365 Copilot in a simplistic but powerful way. Using Visual Studio Code and Teams Toolkit we can build agents in code, but even if you're not a coder and comfortable with the low code options, taking a look under the hood of declarative agents can help you understand both how simple, and how powerful they can be!

    Thanks a lot for this video tutorial! I do have 2 questions: A) I would like to only provide certain time slots for an interview and then let the candidates choose and book. How do I set this up? B) If Isent a link to a booking page to a candidate and another candidate has already booked him/herself an appt on this booking page, will the 2nd candidate see the name & e-mail address of this person and the booking details? I am just wondering how it works if the booking page is shared with several candidates. Thanks for your support.

    Microsoft has produced a confusing landscape of tools that change very quickly, hence why I have little faith in the products they are demonstrating that will appear 'next year' on whether they will ever arrive at all. I think the challenge Microsoft is experiencing is that they are trying to pivot from established Apps in M365 to new Apps with AI at their core. This is easier for competitors such as Notion.so to achieve because a 'page' can hold text, a presentation and a spreadsheet and AI can act on all of it in harmony and these competitors are making easier and easier to migrate. We can see that Microsoft would like to emulate this functionality hence why Pages and Loop exist. Ironically I think what Open AI is doing could undermine the whole apple cart. Because Open AI are adding the facility to connect with Apps on the desktop, Coding to begin with has opened up a whole new ability. So why is this important? Same reason why Start-ups are beginning to avoid building tools on top of Open AI's platform, because they can easy copy the tool and effectively put the Start-up out of business. So where is the smart money? For me, keeping my ChatGPT subscription sounds like a better investment that buying Copilot for now.

      I’m definitely keeping both. In my view the integration of AI into Microsoft’s existing line of apps is a positive for them, it creates a transition opportunity for workers and processes that never step outside of those apps. And while the computer vision aspect of AI integration to just follow along with what’s on screen is personally appealing to me, I remember the outcry about Recall doing this to store to a local database, let alone sending out to a cloud LLM.

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think the big reason would be the integration. Even if Teams is Slack minus 2%, is that 2% gain worth managing another platform? I’m not a Slack user, so I cannot comment on exactly what those differences or similarities are beyond the visual ones.

    Hi and thank you for this. Can I allow Bookings to book when I have other meetings as well? Maybe from a certain sender. I work in education and get invited to all classes but I dont attend them (I am the owner of the team)

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for watching. No. If your calendar is marked as busy, then Bookings will not double book you. The solution to this is that the sessions you don't intend to attend should be marked as free - they will stay on your calendar for your information, but your availability will be bookable.

    Hi Nick and Thurman MS continues on its path to irrelevance No matter the subject, teams, copilot studio or copilot in MS 365 every thing is becoming as Pooh Bear would say a confused noise There are now four different routes to copilot studio: teams biz chat with SharePoint links, biz chat with individual file links, copilot studio with file links or SharePoint links all that work differently It’s a complete mess as is new teams experience as you have pointed out As I have said before when they finally settle on a working solution I might reconsider use but at the moment it’s a mess

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think we see them throwing *something* at the wall to see what will stick. Though I do feel confident the strategy for agents will become more broadly aligned - we can see that in the UI. There are at present definitely better options but not necessarily ones that integrate with M365 with more ease, and it’s this whole package I think is important to many. However, your concerns are very fair.

    Thanks Nick. Very nicely put together. I found the references useful as well. Do you know if there is a declarative way to write to files as well as a declarative way of grounding the data? My scenario is that once I have the output of the prompt from the custom agent, I want to write it to a new file in ODSP or SP. I suspect I am going to have to do this via graph, but I am struggling to find a single example of this anywhere.

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The challenge with this requirement comes down to wanting the last response as the content of the next response (not really what LLMs are so good at). In a custom agent (in Copilot studio) you can use an action step to do this, though depending on exactly what you’re looking for it’s not going to be exactly a copy of the content. Same for declarative agents, though you run into the same issue. It’s not going to be 100% copy and paste like Copilot pages are. Though soon we’ll be able to call declarative agents inside Word, so that might help with this requirement?

    I made custom copilots and was able to share with my team who don't have copilot licences. I made an agent and they were unable to use it because they don't have licences. What's the point of a sharepoint wide agent if those without copilot licences can't use it? Should be anyone who has the link and permissions like with a custom copilot. Any idea how this will be managed in the future?

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for watching. SharePoint is regarded as a Microsoft 365 app, and just as you need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license to use Copilot in apps like Word or Excel, equally you need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license to use Copilot features in SharePoint. If you use Copilot Studio to build a custom agent, you can publish these to channels available to non-Microsoft 365 Copilot licensed users, but Copilot Studio licensing is needed for many features. I am aware of no plans to change this: For a full Copilot/agent experience, users should have Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses. For tailored custom-purpose Copilots or agents, use Copilot Studio custom agents but Copilot Studio licensing requirements may apply (see Pg 20 of the current PP Licensing Guide to work out what features are available in Copilot Studio with certain M365 licenses without additional license upgrades - learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/pricing-billing-skus)

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The separation of consumer (Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Pro) and business (Microsoft 365 Copilot or Microsoft Copilot with EDP) does get confusing in the apps. For the Windows Copilot app you need a consumer login, a business login will not work. For the M365 apps Copilot integrations you need Pro (for most) or M365 Copilot (for all). And for some new AI features on say a Copilot+ PC you need a consumer (Microsoft account) login. But Copilot does work on Win11 with the right types of logins.

    It's an effing mess, why don't they stop users wasting their time until they have a stable set of tools, I watched anotther video today by a senior microsoft developer that talked about a completely different approach to agents in copilot studio utilising so called 'dynamic chaining' activated through a new function, yet to be released called a "planner" no explanation as to what that is or where you find it! And obviously its not the existing planner app. It looks a good addition to copilot but how does this fit in with declarative and custom agents, has it been tested and does it work. My sense is MS needs to stop iterative updates and build a proper tool and then release it not this half assed process that changes every 5 mins.

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m not sure what that is referencing either. I have not dug into this yet but my expectation would be that within the agent builder you would achieve dynamic chaining of actions by describing some sort of if-this-then-that methodology in the natural language instructions. I would understand that now the declarative agent and custom agent framing for extensibility will be solid, agents themselves are now GA (plugins never made it from preview) and while what you can put inside an agent may evolve, they should be solid enough now to start to build and extend over time.

    Some things changed since the recording of this video: the meeting options of copilot changed (e.g. transcript + copilot). Also the requirement of transcription and recording in order to use copilot does not exist any more. Copilot was automatically available and processing the content once I started copilot. Seems like a dedicated "copilot recording layer" was implemented independent from the recording and transcription features without copilot. At least those are my experiences in our environment, maybe that is different in other environments.

    A lot of people complaining about getting ads with copilot and not complaining about paying for a service like chatgpt and having a message limit. Really funny.

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I actually don’t find that so strange. If you buy Microsoft 365 you get usage limits (1TB of storage) but you don’t expect to see ads. The problem would come if the usage limits were so low that an average user hit against them all the time. In terms of genAI the usage limit is a representation of the fact that your chat is going to fall apart as the AI hits its context limit, and so a 3000 turn chat wouldn’t actually be a helpful advance over a 30 or 50 turn chat in terms of usability.

    So what’s the difference between automations and autonomous agents?

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In this context I would say the major difference between what you see in Copilot Studio to a traditional Power Automate flow is that the orchestration of the automation is based upon a natural language description in the agent instructions. The actual capabilities of the two are very similar but the way the actions are sewn together into an automated process are very different.

    Nick you are one of the few of the only creator that mentions these questions regarding licensing and access. I’m in the same boat as what features will be available for what license and subscription plan. I have been reviewing the Microsoft learn and blog pages and it seems Microsoft is very clumsy with their rollout of these releases. It took some learning curve to understand “declarative agents” vs these new autonomous agents? Please assist in your videos with your insights since it’s one of the few resources that clarifies Copilots releases!

    Watching Mark Benioff trash talk CoPilot the last few week because Salesforce will have agents has had me laughing. The MS rebranding not only reinforces what was already knew, the license already existed with Power Platform. On top of that, the universe MS lives in is far larger than Salesforce. Every employee can get an agent anywhere they work not just CRM. The biggest gaps, in my opinion, aren't technical. They are usually a lack of process or definition of the problems we are trying to solve.

    Everything to do with copilot studio is sleight of hand - power automate has been a dog of a product beyond simple completions, and trying to get people to use it under the guise of an AI agent is a bit rich, there are lots of workflows that it's good for, such as forwarding emails received in GMail to an outlook account and if that outlook email has an attachment(s) saving the attachment to a specific folder in one drive or sharepoint, I think products like Replit have much more promise if used in conjuction with triggers. I noticed that if you now log on to copilot studio the previous promised copilot addition "Copilot for Finance" has disappeared

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The strategy around Copilot extensibility is again changing, but the building blocks are not. You could, for example, based on what we've seen of these new capabilities, effectively bypass Power Automate by publishing your own custom connector to an external service API (tbc, as haven't been hands on with this yet). There are lots of opportunities to improve Power Platform, but if Copilot Studio were being built out as an entirely separate low-code product, I think there would be a lot more to be upset about.

    Copilot runs slow with time like if im developing a project if the chat goes too long it slows and as compared to canvas its fast and more reliable than copilot as it understands the logic of the code i am working

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree that in many cases Copilot seems slower, but I haven't noticed this speed vary significantly within a single type of work. In my view, the UX of the new ChatGPT Canvas should be something Microsoft is seeking to compete against with Copilot though.

      @@brightideasagency i dont use microsoft im a laravel developer using canvas is way more easier than copilot because in canvas i would just paste the code and ask to analyze but in copilot i have to add. The code in the chat which takes up so much memory. Also if i want to make a new module canvas will take all my models and controllers and help me create a new module in seconds i tried and it helped me make 4 new modules in just an hour after debugging, if i did my self it would have taken 4-5 hours

    The new Copilot does suck badly!!! Mine just updated to an annoying AI that thinks its funny and I can't change its annoying personality. I was working in chat for several minutes and when I maximized the window the chat re-directed to yesterdays chat. When I shared the issue with Copilot it began to answer in a sarcastic way and I asked it to respond directly but it kept trying to be human despite me telling it that I do not like how its responding. When I asked what could have possibly happened to my previous chat and it said once its over its gone forever, but I back in the chat from yesterday. This video is outdated and I think its obsolete now. I hope this update does not effect the paid version in Office 365.

      This video focuses on Microsoft 365 Copilot, which is the business solution, rather than the personal Microsoft Copilot which was recently significantly updated. I do have some videos on the consumer Copilot or Copilot Pro, but these are pre-update, but the points in this video stand at the time of writing of this comment.

    I find it very confusing that we need two solutions, both containing the custom connector, to be able to import it in some managed environment. Seems counterintuitive. I would much rather have the one solution with the custom connectors and the other with just the app and references.

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency หลายเดือนก่อน

      The components included in a solution are those items it depends on to work, so it needs to carry with it that reference or else it wouldn’t be able to ensure the environment has the right foundational resources. Think of solutions are layers where each layer has to carry with it info on what it depends on.

    I began using Loop in OneNote because I like the structure elements involved, but after doing a number of tests, I began to see its shortcomings. I didn't even think about the search feature until I saw your video. Even today, the search doesn't work within OneNote for a Loop component, at least on the desktop version. That alone eliminates it as a functional component for me. Thanks for the heads-up!

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching. Yes, search is a problem, and I doubtful whether it's a problem that will get fixed with any priority as the data is literally somewhere else when it comes to that component.

  • @DocDirk
    @DocDirk หลายเดือนก่อน

    I find it very underwhelming. This is just a shortcut 'send to loop'. It will be usefull, as sometimes I want to continue editing information in Loop. But it's hardly a time saver. There wasn't really a problem with just copying information into a Loop page as i did before. I think it is troublesome that Microsoft has now 'adressed' collaboration with AI in this manner. And we still are not able to collaborate on interacting with AI. Al hopes are now on the Copilot teammember 😇😇

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. Send to loop is not unhelpful. But that is what it is and without a send to work or send to OneNote, it feels incomplete in the context of M365 integration

    Hello, Thank you for the informative video. Just getting started with Shifts and I am needing to offer "open" shifts, but hoping there is a function that allows an employee to pick up a part or partial portion of the open shift. Is this possible?

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency หลายเดือนก่อน

      Short answer. No. Longer answer. Can you split up the shifts so they are broken into the partial components someone might pick up. I also think based on the degree of access we have to modify shifts data to build a custom workflow that perhaps allows an employee to pick up a shift and then maybe drop them a card that allows them to change the timing - however this would get complex if you then needed to republish the available shift pieces. Out of the box, publishing the shift in parts would probably be the solution I’d advise.

    Copilot pages seems to be an upcoming replacement for many of the things onenote can do. It's essentially loop in one note with its workspaces, pages and sublinks. While I wish it had the editibility of chatgpt canvas, it's a good foundation, but I agree that many of Microsoft's new tech rollouts seem to be half assed, and often overlap with and cannibalise their already existing apps.

    • @elpelagatos

      And they have the usual confusion of names, as they release new products > they don't really kill the products they replace > the old names still appear in URLs, random pages, etc.

      You could definitely take a Copilot Page as a Loop component and use it in OneNote, it would be a lot of extra clicks though.
