Just your average guy doing what he loves with the people he loves. Once you have everything you’ve ever wanted, what comes next? For us, it’s Stargazer.
I’m Josh Wells. Together with my family, the goal is to completely fix up our forty year-old Chris Craft boat.
Along the way, I hope to make amazing memories, teach some life skills to my son, strengthen my relationships with my family, and become the best man that I can be. I’m no expert on DIY boat repairs, though, so I'll need all of the help that I can get.
That’s why I’ve started this channel: to gain insight, share my experiences, and-hopefully-to help & inspire others to explore the unknown together. So, climb aboard and join us on the voyage, Cruiser. The more the merrier!
Please note, we don't represent Chris Craft Corporation, we just love their boats!

Our goal is to completely fix up our forty-year-old boat, while making amazing memories, teaching life skills, and becoming the best people we can be along the way. We’re no experts on DIY boat repairs, so we need your help! Climb aboard, Cruiser. We’re happy to have you.

Stargazer Speaks | Boating & DIY Repairs
Refinishing the swim platform on my 1972 Commander 41 and stumbled across this video. Great to see a local Chis fan - we summer slip in Warwick!
Thanks so much, I have been looking for the information for a year, need to replace fuel line on a 2.5 HP
You should have worn your Willie suit for the intro. Lol
That is wonderful, thanks for sharing with us!!
I have this motor too. Do you have videos on how to service it? Also how to adjust it for it the water. Mine runs good for a bit then sometimes is just dies
Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Josh, have you found a wiring diagram schematic for this boat yes I have the 1979 model exactly the same
Don, we don't have a wiring diagram yet. Still on the hunt, we were given a MarinePower Engine Manual for 1994 350 sports. If you need. How is your steering linkage from dual controller? We are looking to replace ours, debating going hydraulic, do you have any insight?
You didn't mention that it takes a village
GREAT VIDEO. IT WAS A PLEASURE TAKING PART IN YOUR PROJECT AND ENJOYED ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS OF THIS PROJECT.
Thank you for watching, we love doing the projects.
As soon as my lehr 2.5 is warm, it stalls all the time when I try to engage forward. It’s very frustrating as it stalls all the time since new. I have had the engine for more than 5 years and it’s got less than 20 hours on it.
That is super frustrating... Have you looked at the ideal rpms yet? Than I would look at the prop and cam to see if they are binding on the shift. Good luck, Cruiser.
Why not glue the hatch carpet I think this would better secure the center of the hatch carpet from getting those nasty ripples. Will those staples around the edges hold over time?
I agree but, I was trying to stay away from glue. The carpet only has a life span of 5 years in the salty environment, so we will have to change the hatches more than the rest of the carpet. I could not think of anything easier to replace or the fasten them down with. Thanks for watching, we appreciate you.
Well done Josh, well done.
Thank you, when are you coming out to help with a project? We have to redo the platform again...
Side note: Nice EXT :)
Good job!!
What were the tq specs you used?
If you call Marine Engine Parts they can tell you just about anything. Great guys, they can look up your engine and help.
@@CruisingChrisCraft i figured doing a how to, you'd list these figures.. guess not lol
Interesting "PEPE the Frog" like character you chose for your Nicholas Tesla guy. :)
I love my 23 Chris craft scorpion....bought it new in 86.....it's a 87 model year....its as much a part of our family as the 5 kids.
Thank you for watching and sharing your memory. It means a lot.
This is fantastic!!!
Please note: This video is not sponsored by #TacoBell [hahahaha] but management will accept any paid sponsorship [hehehehe]
Very true... lmao
Nicely done. Sam should have a you tube channel of his own.
Nice job Sam
Josh, I have the sister ship (1979) to yours. We are doing an exhaust manifold replacement too. Thanks for the video! Do you have a wiring diagram for our boat? Do you know where I can purchase a wiring diagram? I look forward to your channel's growth!
We have not found a wiring diagram yet, we are on the search too. We contacted the Mariners Museum and had them open the archive. We found that to be very helpful with blueprints, structural and parts lists. Plus we got the day Star Gazer left the yard for the East Coast, she has lived her whole live out here. We got the deals papers too. Hope you and the family are safe and healthy. Thank you for sharing with us.
Heck of a great job Josh!!! Your tidbits during the work always give a smile.....
In the heads!!!!
Put permatex in of the hose!!!!!
Nice job. Atta Boy.
.... and 8:33 whacking the hose. That came out wrong.
At 5:50 .... "I Dudditz" from the movie 'Dream Catcher' with Donnie Walburg as Douglas lol
Wow! My wife and I live in New Baltimore, Michigan, just down the road and around the lake a bit from Algonac. For more than twenty years, we piloted our 32’ Marinette Fly Bridge Sedan named (wait for it).. Stargazer! We chose the name because our big all-around windows let us see the wise expanse of the sky while anchored out on Lake St. Clair. But we got a kick out of learning there’s a fish called the stargazer that can build an electric charge behind it’s eyes and shoot an electric shock from them to paralyze its prey!
I love that you shared your story with us. Thank you for watching.
At 11:47 tell me those aren't "Mail In Ballots" in that United States Postal box over your left shoulder! [wink wink]
In the 70s my sweet mom worked for Rodi Boat company in Chicago. Chris Craft were sold there A dream boat for sure.
Thank you for sharing your memory with us.
Grew up on two of.them.......both 50 footers......blast watching my dad water ski behind them on Lake Pepin.....
That's fun, thank you for reminding me of my father and I on the water too. Please keep watching.
Lot of them were built in Holland Michigan.
That is where Star Gazer was born 1.31.1980. Thank you for watching.
Nicely done. Great tutorial. Your sewing skills are improving.
In 1977, returning from overseas orders (Australia), A friend talked me into going in with him on the restoration on a 31ft CrisCraft plane rearming boat. That took us nearly a year but was worth every busted knuckle!
We truly believe if you have never varnished 2 miles of mahogany with someone you have not lived! Thank you for sharing. Welcome to the crew.
What Chris * Craft motor in this boat n What year is it is it wooden????
Stargazer has 2 Marine Power 350 Sport Pac. She is not wooden.
What kind of motors in this boat
Stargazer currently has 2 Marine Power 350 Sport Pac... she was re-powered in 1994.
Is this a wooden boat
No, Stargazer is a Fiberglass and wooden core motor yacht.
What year is the Chris * Craft
Scott, Stargazer is a 1980 330 Catalina Sport Sedan. She was made in Holland MI 1.31.1980
Good video ladies. Glad we got to see Ollie too.
Ollie said, thank you for watching.
😷👍☕
I worked at the Chris Craft plant in Oakland Ca , on Hegenber Ln in 1963 . If I remember right we had four productions lines with one of them being a sailboat .
Mr. C, I believe you are right. I am under the understanding that the company made sailboats from 1962 - 1970. In '63 that maybe the Sail Yacht... cool boat. You are lucky my friend. Thank you for adding to the history. Please keep sharing with us.
Loved Nikki's giggle. Good job.
Nice job, two thumbs up!
😎👍☕
Awesome historical video, thank you
Thank you for watching.
Where's the blu cheese dressing?
It is all gone... it was sooooo good. Thank you.
I just bought a LEHR 2.5. Wont start brand new out of the box! Any ideas about I’m doing wrong
Problem solved. Throttle comes at half power out of the box. Flooded engine. 4 hours later, no start at starter point. Throttle to 100%... vvvvrooom vroom! Stoked
I am glad it was an easy fix. You will love that engine. We have had ours for years and it has been great. Good luck my friend. Thank you for watching.
I had a 59 31ft Chris in the Puget sound great memorys
Dave, thank you for sharing your memory with us. We will honor It. It makes us very happy to hear. Please keep sharing.
Tyb dc ghost feel
Great Video several years ago i restored a 1964 Wood Constellation by ChrisCraft it was a lot of fun not that great of a financial investment but completely worth the effort and the Money IMO as I tell my freinds when they ask Boating in General isnt a good financial Investment on your bank account but a great investment on fun and Memories including that mentioned boat ive owned 16 or 17 other boats through out my life my first i bought before a car ! As i graduated high Scholl in South Florida and was a Avid Scuba Diver at 16 years old
