බොන්සායි (盆栽, බොන්සායි,) යනු ජපන් ජාතිකයන් විසින් හඳුන්වාදුන් කලාත්මක කුරු ගස් වැවීමේ ක්රමවේදයකි. බොන්සායි (ජපන්: 盆栽, ලයිට්. ගස්.) හෝ චීන සම්ප්රදාය වන පෙන්සායි කලාව ආරම්භ වූ පෙන්ජිං සහ වියට්නාමයේ හොන් කොන් හි කුඩා ජීවන භූ දර්ශන ඇතුළු වෙනත් සංස්කෘතීන්වල ද මෙවැනිම භාවිතයන් පවතී. ජපන් සම්ප්රදාය අවුරුදු දහසකටත් වඩා පැරණි ය.
"බොන්සායි" යන්නෙන් අදහස් කරන්නේ ජපන් සම්ප්රදායට හා මූලධර්මවලට අනුකූලව කුඩා, බහාලුම් තුළ වැඩුණු ගස් ය.
බොන්සායි හි අරමුණු මූලික වශයෙන් නරඹන්නාට මෙනෙහි කිරීම සහ වගාකරුගේ ප්රසන්න උත්සාහය සහ දක්ෂතාවයයි. අනෙකුත් ශාක වගා ක්රමවලට වඩා වෙනස්ව, ඒ වෙනුවට, බොන්සායි පුහුණුව දිගු කාලීනව වගා කිරීම සහ කන්ටේනරයක (භාජනයක)වැඩෙන කුඩා ගස් එකක් හෝ කිහිපයක් හැඩ ගැස්වීම කෙරෙහි අවධානය යොමු කරයි.
සම්පූර්ණ ප්රමාණයේ ගස්වල හැඩය සහ ශෛලිය අනුකරණය කරන කුඩා ගස් නිෂ්පාදනය කිරීම සඳහා බොන්සායි කප්පාදු කිරීම, මූල අඩු කිරීම, පෝච්චි කිරීම, අපවිත්ර කිරීම සහ බද්ධ කිරීම වැනි වගා ක්රම භාවිතා කරයි.

Identification
The trunk is rough and black- brown, vertically segmented and peeling in old trees. The tree has a dark under canopy. Leaves are glossy and shiny above, turn from bright green to dark green with maturity, yellowish when drying, 9-22 cm long and 5-7 cm broad, alternately arranged on short branchlets, oblong to lanceolate in shape, with a tapered base and rounded apex and a prominent midrib. Male inflorescences form globose buds which are about 2 cm at maturity. Male flowers are nearly 1-1.5 cm long with many filaments at the centre. Female inflorescences have 1-5 flowers, each about 2 cm long, white in colour, and attract bees. The fruit is globose and soft coated, up to 6 cm in diameter, turns orange when ripe. The top is often depressed, and the base has a persistent, woody calyx.
