MTH #57 Propane Turbine (Proto 2.0) smoke unit fixes
มุมมอง 1704 หลายเดือนก่อน
The MTH Propane Turbine (20-2261-1) has two smoke units. One did not produce smoke, the other was very noisy. I show how I remove the shell, diagnose the problem, replace the rear smoke motor and restore smoke the front unit. Then, reassemble and test run the locomotive. The Locomotive was delivered in 2001.

Ok I’ll check it out tomorrow, thanks
Have to do the same thing to mine. What do I need to watch for with the bell and you mentioned something about some piping at the rear that needs to be removed.
Keith, when you turn the engine over, be careful not to damage the bell. I did not have an issue with the bell mechanism inside the shell. Piping: there is a hole under the cab that two pipes enter. One is of no concern. The other is connected by compression to a small (valve?). It’s about 4” long and ends just under the ash pan.
Good luck. If you would like a pic of what I’m talking about email me: ejobloy@gmail.com.
OK, thank you for your reply. I will be trying it sometime this week if I run into problems, I will ask for those pictures. I just bought this locomotive over the weekend and it supposedly has never been ran. I am hoping the motor is just dry and needs some lubrication, but I am going to order a couple from Lionel just to have them on hand. I was getting the three blinks just like yours.
Just as a sidenote, you may already know this, but in the back of the owners manual, it does tell you what the blinks mean there can be up to five blinks
I would strongly suggest replacing both fan motors and the wick.
Just bought one to go with the streamlined cars featured. Looking forward to years of enjoyment. Hopefully it will not dwarf my other steam locomotives.
Congratulations! It’s a great engine. The B&O museum in Baltimore has one on display. Thanks for watching and good luck.
Nice Run. I see you've done some shopping with my Good Friend Jorge.
Yes, indeed! He does excellent work. Thanks for commenting.
Scumbags
I seen that on the news I hate the way they did that to him
Hi, curious, what do you copy/duplicate the labels? Do you have multiple bins for each QR code? Why do you add alpha letters to the QR code? Thanks
Yes, I have multiple bins, but use one unique QR code per bin. I buy a set of printable QR codes from Totescan. 48 unique codes per purchase. I print 2 copies of each QR code. I ad A letter to more easily locate the bin I need.
Does the engine play the Stars and Stripes music?
No, I added the music. Only Trump’s voice comes from the engine. Thanks for watching.
I like it. I can't find one. 😔Any Suggestions?
Thanks. I know they are hard to come by. Other than the usual places like MTH or Ebay I can’t help. Good luck.
This one was just in case I was
Thanks for watching. "...just in case I was" what???
Operating car wash… *chuckles* How did you made these?
Thanks for watching. I bought the operating Car Wash accessory from MTH.

Thanks!
By the way also new subscriber cause of your beautiful tribute 2 our brave Men and Women out there ❤️ thanx Again
Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate your subscribing.
I love the trains 🚆 thankyou so much it was very moving for me specifically with that music in the background my Grandpa was a fighter pilot in WWII he was never shot down luckily and got 2 home where than my mom and uncle was born and years later I was born from my mom but when you look back what if he didn't come home I or rest of my family wouldn't be here and all the other fallen hero's they fought hard and died for what they and this country believes in so anyways thanks alot for this video it should make everyone step back and say holy smokes I'm very lucky 2 live in a free country because all those Dad's, Sons,Grandpa's, husbands, and such went over there and tried 2 kick as much butt as they could and some lost their lives doing it as Billy Ray Cyrus beautiful song "All Gave some and Some Gave all" please do this again next year awesomely beautiful thankyou very much❤
David, than you so much for your comment. The story you told is quite moving and as you noted, it could be repeated thousands of time by thousands of grateful, humble Americans. I was deeply touched by the way you expressed the contributions made, the impacts and consequences. You are so right to point out Billy Ray Cyrus's song. I will heed your request and be sure to repost this video every year. Thank you again and please know I am eternally grateful to your Grandpa. God Bless.
Really enjoyed watching you fix the smoke units motor. I have the old veranda #75 with ps1. I bought it brand new never run loaded with damage after receiving it due to shipping. The seller refunded 100% of my cost. He filed a claim with UPS and got his money back. In return he left me keep the locomotive. I found all of the replacement parts except the rear smoke unit. Which was completely in pieces due to zinc rot. I’ve never been able to run the locomotive because at the time I didn’t have the 072 radius curves. I plan on upgrading it to PS3.
Thanks. Sorry to hear about the smashed loco, but it sounds like you've got a plan to bring it to life. Good luck.
Thank you Ed! I will be using the app to organize my attic that is full of bins of trains. 👍
You're welcome. I think you'll find it very helpful.
Most definitely!
Fantastic turbine run session.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
This is the best tribute I have ever seen on TH-cam Ed. Every piece of rolling is absolutely incredible. Thank you for taking the time to make this beautiful video. Your masterpiece brought me to tears thinking about my grandfather and uncles and how they contributed to our freedom. My Uncle Bucky never came home. I have subscribed to your channel. 💯❤️😊 Frank
Thank you very much. I greatly appreciate your kind remarks. I understand your feelings regarding your grandfather and Uncle. I'm sorry for your loss. I fly the P-38 over my layout because that's the plane my brother flew in WWII. It warms my heart to know my simple salute touches folks such as yourself. Thanks for subscribing
Thanks!
Very cool military layout!
🇺🇲 God bless man and woman have served in military the train car with the soldier walking back and forth is the best one I've ever seen I'm going to look to buy one just like that
Thanks for watching and commenting. You expressed my feelings and reasons for producing the video. Good luck in your search for the car. 🇺🇸🪖
Nicely done. God Bless America.
Thanks for watching. America needs his blessings now more than ever in my lifetime.
Ed, thank you for the tribute to our men and women who serviced to defend our freedom. Nice collection of military rolling stock.
Thanks Nick. It’s important we never forget.

"Laughing out loud, acid, Man"....🤩🤪
The rocket train used to run with old Southern Railway Pullman sleeper Warrior River until that fckng shortline wrecked it.
Thanks for watching. I didn't know that. Interesting and sad.
Outstanding Ed'.. I love it.. what a display you have of military rolling stock. Never realized you purchased all those WW2 box cars and ordnance equip. You are indeed a true American Patriot, I am so proud that you are friend of mine'.. Only a hand full of WW2 Vets left. If not for them, America, and the free world would have a complete different description... Thanks Ed for taking the time to put this up'.. Nice work''. 👍👍👌👌
Thanks, Ted. It is surprising how a collection grows one purchase at a time over time...(Sheesh, I sound like Kamala..) 🙂 Kidding aside, I'm humbled by your comments. I too am proud to have you as a friend...you mentor me in the hobby, and remind me, there is hope for our country because men like you, who wore the uniform and sacrificed for our country continue to set an example for all who follow.
Thanks for watching. Heartfelt comments such as yours are greatly appreciated.
That’s fantastic. Thanks for remembering my fallen Brothers.
Great video, I just got one of these. Same issue, now I know how to fix. Thank you!
You're welcome! Glad it helped and thanks for watching.
So very cool with just the layout lights Ed... Very nice!!!
Thanks! I'm working on how best to light 'night shots.'
I enjoyed the running session
Thanks for watching and commenting. 😊
👍You have a very impressive train room. Like all the locomotive action. Gary from Michigan🚂
Thanks, Gary. I can say the same of yours.
Cool
Thanks!
Awesome 😊
Thanks! It is a very cool combo.
Awesome!! I see some other nice stuff on the shelves!! Looks like a nice collection!!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I enjoy the collection, but most of all, operating them.
The O scale train station where the Acela is at is a replica of the Sayre, Pennsylvania Lehigh Valley passenger train station which today is the Lehigh Valley railroad museum.
I had no idea. Thanks.
Nice set, I like the paint scheme of the Rocket Booster and cars. They look cool running around the S curves. Have a great day.
Thanks, you too!
Thanks, Nick.
Nice review of one awesome locomotive. I enjoyed the history of the NYC Dreyfuss J3 Hudson. The paint scheme looks great. Thanks for sharing your new engine and passenger cars with us. Have a great day.
I enjoyed the demo. There is always an answer to a problem. As you demonstrated. The smoke unit real is piping out the smoke. I like the Propane Turbine engine.
Thanks Nick. It was a fun project, and best of all, I did it! Turns out though, I'll probably be replacing the front smoke unit motor as well. Still get noise, now from the front. But, I know how to deal with this engine now. I've started two videos. I full review of the Propane Turbine and a fun run with both of my turbines., The MTH Propane and the Legacy Veranda Turbine (1941). I reviewed it a few years ago. You can see that in my videos. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
@@Boscoed1 I'll check them the videos.
Great looking set. Looks nice see the action of the reefers. I'll tack a case to enjoy at my next yard party.
Coors Light on the way!
@@Boscoed1 Thanks looking forward to the delivery. Have a great day.
One nice looking and sounding locomotive. Looks great puling the passenger cars. What year catalog was it in?
Thanks Nick. It was in the 2002 C2 Lionel catalog.
The cars and engine can negotiate O-32 curves so it can easily run on my elevated track.
Awsome demo on the solid rocket. Now it's up to NASA to do the rest. Have a great day.
Thanks Nick. I appreciate your watching and commenting.
Another Griff to pay trumps legal bill 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for watching and commenting. However, unless MTH is donating to Trump, this is strictly a toy train.

Cool demo & Hi from Michigan 👍 How do you spell the name of that screw driver? 🚂
Hi Gary. Thanks for watching and commenting. Here's the info on the screwdriver: Hozan Hozan JIS-4 JIS Screwdriver Set (3rd Gen) If you search the name on Amazon it'll turn up. Be sure you were Eclipse Glasses Monday
Great review you pointed out some interesting highlights !
Thanks for watching and commenting. I love this engine. It's right there with the Hiawatha and the Hudson Yellow Belly
I purchased the entire set myself ,but instead of buying the steam locomotive,I purchased a E 7 diesel A.B.A. from Lionel that had the "Beauty Queen " paint scheme . I saw the train with these locomotives in a book about the 20th Century Limited ,thus these Beauty Queen e 7 locomotives were used to haul the 1938 version of the train before the 1948 version of the 20th Century was introduced . These Beauty Queen E 7 locomotives by Lionel paint scheme were a perfect match to the 20th Century Limited passenger cars by Lionel . The only complaint that I have is about the two sleeping passenger cars . While the R.P.O. baggage car , the two dinning cars ,and the observation car are prototypical to the original 1938 20th Century Limited passenger cars .Lionel fell short on the two sleeping cars. First the sleeping cars don't have full skirting as the other three passenger cars have and all of the passenger cars for the 1938 20th Century had full skirting . They only gave you two sleeping car floor plans, which were a 5 bedrooms/10 romettes and a 4 bedrooms ,4 compartments , 2drawing rooms After inspecting the two sleeping cars ,I notice that they used to incorrect floor plan for the 5/10 sleeping car. The prototype 5/10 sleeping car for 1938 had the bedrooms and end of the car and had the roomettes at the other end of the car. The floor plan that was use for this particular car had all of the bedrooms in the center and the roomettes were split and placed at each end of the car. These two sleeping cars floor plans came from the 1948 version of Lionel's 1948 Pennsylvania Broadway limited passenger car that they put out a few years ago. They left out two other sleeping cars that were used on the 1938 20th Century Limited and they were a 17 roomettes and a 13 double bedrooms . I love the set but I do feel that for a passenger train that is world famous ,Lionel really missed am opportunity to give us a spectacular train set ,especially at that price point .
