also 500 Mts altitude limit?
Ok, if we arent in Canada, where do we get the authorization?
That would depend on what country you are flying in. It would usually be from the governing body responsible for the airspace.
my avata doesnt get a prompt to unlock
Yea man, once I was inside a building (Avata 2) and it took like 15 minutes to get the pop up. Could be that I didn’t get enough satellites. Maybe DJI needs to be certain where you are before it lets you take off.
Ya it's taken my 45 minutes sometimes to get it found out restarting the drone with app already open helped alot with stoping the messing around
No in sim video capture? Bunmer, i was just looking to see how to record drone cam footage. Guess I'll have to capture via OBS or Wirecast.
Yea, I haven’t seen the option to take in game video, though to be honest I wasn’t exactly looking for it cause I assumed it wasn’t a thing.
Great guide, thx! And I like Toronto as your background. My home town! 🥰
lol nice. 😄

Ive been using msfs 2020 for this type of shots for real estate. Showing off the route from city to city. Mainly for something higher up. You can chose tjme of day and play with the clouds. Im suprised nobody else used that for this
That’s awesome. I was wondering how this could be leveraged to include in some client work. Are there legal issues with using the in game view for client work?
Good evening st padre pio church kleinburg
I’m going to aurora high soon!!
does the drone need to be registered and have RID to do this?
While you need to check the boxes for an authorization zone (blue) telling DJI you are authorized to fly there, it doesn’t seem as though anyone verifies this. Though if you aren’t actually authorized to fly there you will be subject to all local regulations and laws and potential fines. For restricted zones (red) DJI requires you to upload documentation to unlock it to prove to them you are authorized.
What i can notice from your video is that i cannot just get a flight authorization at home, update my drone with googles and go fly miles and miles away in a blue zone. I have to do all the cable - googles process at the sight of flight when i am tryng to take off in the blue zone...
great useful explanation
haven't seen whole video yet´. but what you said sounds great to me. followed :)
There in lies the problem I do not get that pop-up
you kind of speed through the unlocking for the authorization zone. I am in class C airspace but DJI thinks I'm in one but I'm not. I get the message that I'm in that zone but I don't see where I can add the information you are talking. about 5:31 in the video.
Sorry about the confusion, are you in a DJI blue zone or red zone? I’m not exactly sure what your particular situation is. Is it possible to include some more details? Blue zones are called Authorization zones and they are featured at 0:40. Red zones (restricted zones) need a lot more work to unlock. First you need proof of permission from the local airspace regulator like a screenshot of a document. Then check out 2:39 for how to unlock on DJIs website.
I’m in an authorization zone. But of course DJI has this all screwed up because it’s actually class C airspace so about 5 miles away from me is a cross runway that is a dirt strip that’s hardly ever used. DJI has given me a one year code so every year I have to email them and replace it. So I know how to unlock that way but if I go someplace else with an authorization zone, not sure how to do it in the new Fly app I could not see what you were talking about.
@@nmfiremank cool thanks for reiterating. At 0:42 here are the steps I do (which are admittedly fast in the video) - Get ready to take off with the drone - a pop up will show on the dji fly app saying “aircraft in authorization zone” - hit the “unlock” button - another pop up saying “identity authentication” where you enter your phone number, hit the checkbox to agree to the conditions - they will send you a verification code, enter it in dji fly app - then check all the boxes saying you are capable and allowed to fly there. And hit ok Also perhaps ensure you are logged into your dji account in the dji fly app.
Just because you are not wearing Goggles does not mean you are flying VLOS. You are still flying FPV if you are constantly looking at your screen.
You are correct. The Canadian regulations and other countries around the world allow for occasional use of the FPV device (the screen) and in instances where you need to look extensively at the screen, Transport Canada has stated that one should have a spotter, even if it’s a regular camera drone.
Who dreamt up the ridiculous rule of needing a spotter in the first place?? Talk about a huge government over-reach..
This was the same on the original Avata.
You could try a cell phone neck holder. I seen one of those on Amzaon once.
That’s interesting. I’ve never seen one of those before! One potential downside is the goggles would be pretty much there around the neck.
I definitely remember such an adapter being made for the FPV2, to hold your phone. Maybe they will eventually make an aftermarket one for the FPV3. As long as it won't interfere with the internal antenna.
Fucking communist plot. You don’t own my fucking drone. Fuck DJI government alignment.
Do you need to have a phone while flying the Avata 2 ?
Not necessary. There is just the option to see the drone live feed on the phone.
Very good walkthrough! 👍
Dan! like!pro ~👌
Thanks, brother.
Hi Dan, thanks for this info. I've sent you a PM with a link for an adapter on the DJI Remote 3 controller.
Beautiful shots! ✨👍🏻
Thanks so much!
I’ve got a chest mount that holds my TriplTek & can use the MC3…still waiting for my Controller 3
Chest mount seems like a good idea. Today I found holding the fpv controller with my phone mounted on it got a bit tiresome and took some agility out of my stick fingers.
Visual line of sight also means knowing exactly where the drone is. I am FAA part 107. I recall that part of my training and the first exam had a question about the drone temporarily not being seen, such as going behind a tree, but then reemerging at an anticipated location. We're also looking at the controller, so we're not always looking at the drone in the air at the same time. That's not possible. It's impossible to see the drone 100% of the time. But it's possible to know exactly where it is at all times. I always answer yes to maintaining visual line of site, because I know exactly where the drone is, and I know it presents no hazard to other aircraft.
In my opinion, the Avata 2 is a very safe drone to fly without a spotter. Of course, I'm not saying it's legal in the eyes of Transport Canada. I'm talking about common sense. Here's what makes the difference for me: 1 - It automatically goes back to normal mode (like a Mavic would) if it loses signal or if you exceed max altitude. 2 - The pause button is a life saver if you ever get in a precarious situation. Again, it goes back to normal mode very fast. 3 - The google view is so clean and hi definition, you practically fly like you are sitting on top of the drone. Plus, these things are intended to fly mostly forward (you never really have to go side to side or backward). Actually, I would argue that flying with PIP on is LESS safe than just flying normally with the Goggles on. As a Canadian, certified pilot for 10 years, 1000+ flight hours, I'm done bending backward and doing stupid stuff just to be "legal" in the eyes of people who know NOTHING about drones (Transport Canada). I've done enough in my career. I'm very careful when I fly FPV. I go to a remote area and I am very aware of my surroundings. But if TC wants to fine me for "not flying VLOS, they can go ahead and do it. 😅
Yea those features are huge. You make an interesting point about being safe and what the regulations require.
I think what's most important is to fly safely at all times. It's also important to not let people see you, as it only raises unnecessary questions and distractions. I sit in my car when either flying my FPV or my traditional drone. I KNOW I'm safe, and that's what matters. I am FAA part 107 and have upmost respect for the community of responsible pilots. I have NO respect for people who have opinions, but don't actually fly drones and spent countless hours becoming better at the craft.
@@VisionCommunications 100%. I always try to make myself discrete when i fly, especially FPV. Of if someone sees me, i'll often make chit-chat with them. Most of the time, people are just curious and become really interested when you explain them what you're doing. When you bump into a Karen, you can either abord your plan or simply serve him/her the classic "I'm a professionnal, certified pilot and i'm paid to do this. Leave me to my work and i'll be gone real quick" 😂
I sit in my car and fly Avata for commercial real estate in close quarters. Also fly interior, over which FAA or municipalities have no jurisdiction. Outdoors rules should be adapted for FPV using a cinewhoop style drone with prop guards and flying close to the ground, with no people present. “One size fits all” rules make no sense.
Da Vinci speed ramping looks pretty good with the motion blur
I do this trick with HDZERO & Walksnail since their goggles ( and of course VTX) has an HDMI output. I live in France and the current regulation (which is still different from the EU one, the EU one should apply from 2026...) states that using a "video feedback" is not considered to be flying using "immersion", hence a second person isn't required anymore as long as the pilot has a correct perception of the drone and its environment. With a correct screen you can fly well, and sure it is more secure than goggles, for instance you hear some sound, and you can quickly check if there is something to consider, or not, while when you wear the goggles you can only guess.
I tried something like this with a regular FPV drone and it was a little scary controlling it without the goggles (maybe it was the location I was in). Since the Avata 2 has a brake and even operates like a regular DJI drone it makes this whole thing much easier. Did it take you a while to get used to flying like this with a regular FPV drone?
@@dgaerialimagery Getting used to it was nearly immediate, I saw no real differences and I even felt more comfortable. Try to get a screen with the lowest possible latency, a high speed refresh rate, and a good brightness, maybe your setup was adding lag or you were disturbed by reflections on the screen. I found that flying in front of a screen was very similar to using a flight simulator or playing with a FPS. It is nice to be able to check if there is nothing around the drone, if the car that you here in the distance isn't planning to go your way or to be able to have a sip of coffee ;-)
Great drone footage and amazing aerial view. 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing. Subbed and Liked.👍👍👍
Awesome, thank you!
I got a cheap iPad mount and put an arca-swiss plate and put on a tripod in front of me and a long cable to connect to goggles and it seems to work well… not sure if this is the case for everyone, but I lose some functionality if I take the goggles completely off. I can tilt them up and keep on my head and look at the screen, but definitely need to stay on your head.
Nice. I tried the tripod approach with an iPhone but I find I prefer having it on the controller to be able to turn around and such. Either way I appreciate the option to fly it without a spotter. Really increases the value of the system for me. Happy flying!
Probably sold me on getting the avata 2; great video Dan.
While it’s not perfect and I do have some criticisms (future video), it is a great system that I don’t regret buying. Have a look around some more critical videos on TH-cam to form a more balanced perspective.
Thanks a lot for this clear to understand settings for the M-Mode and how to set the stick properly for M-mode and N-mode .
Glad to help. Happy flying.
Great video thank you!! I LOVE my Avata 2 and I am tempted to try manual mode as been flying using the simulator etc, but tbh I don’t really want to do flips etc but would like the extra speed that manual brings (for follow shots etc shooting cars/bikes) so If I didn’t disable M mode attitude, will this stop my drone from flipping please? Like I said I don’t need the flips etc (but will probably try them later once I improve)
OK took the plunge and tried Man mode! Dude my heart was pounding lol but I've done a few hours in the sim and that def paid off. I tried sport first and getting to that brake button quick just in case then went man without disabling the M attitude and felt ok, then disabled that and tried a few flips etc. I didn't crash so that was good lol and the sim 100% helped a LOT. I actually love the stiffer throttle in normal and sport mode, and the speed I get in man will help in certain projects but for most of my shots I can get with normal and sport mode! I will still practise in manual though but don't really need to do flips etc but its cool as flying in man mode actually seemed to improve me in normal and sport modes! Thanks again!!
Thanks a lot for your comment on this topic. Necessity of having a spotter make my FPV flights in EU less common as I often go to the mountains alone. The workaround of using the phone as a screen could be useful. Liked 👍🏻Subscribed ⭐
There is an adapter and i use this loophole to fly my quads without a spotter. Just fly with the goggles, if push comes to shove, you can always lie to the police that you flew line of site the whole time :)
I'm going to go ahead and officially recommend not lying to police. 😅😅😅
Line of sight also means knowing exactly where the drone is. I am FAA part 107. I recall that part of my training and the first exam had a question about the drone temporarily not being seen, such as going behind a tree, but then reemerging at an anticipated location. You can not look down at any screen. You need to have visual contact at all times with the drone. 😅 Nobody does that.
It's kinda sad how the amount of bad actors has screwed flying up for everyone. :(
Hello, thanks for the comment. In Canada the local regulations are interpreted to allow pilots to look at an FPV device while flying, even though the strict definition says we must have the drone in sight "at all times". Checkout TC AIM RPA 3.2.1.1. "The pilot may take his or her eyes off the aircraft for brief moments to operate the control station or perform other flight-critical tasks without being considered to have lost VLOS." Also check out TC AIM RPA 3.2.26 "If you are using an FPV system that reduces the field of view of the pilot, visual observers must be used."
I also think I may have missed your sarcasm LOL. Sorry about that.
Yeah, sorry. But keep visual contact with the drone at all time. Means you’re not allowed to look at the controller or see what you are filming. 🤷♂️ EASA (Europe) rules are similar, but it says: the remote pilote is able to keep visual contact with the drone. So it’s allowed to look at a display and see what you are filming. Any way for FPV: i don’t have a spotter with me all the time. So switching between goggles and a phone display might come in handy. With a regular FPV drone this is not possible to do.
Upshot Photos makes an Avata 2 Phone mount. Search Google for "Upshot Photos Southport"
Nice. Unfortunately with shipping this would be about $100 CAD 😬I don’t know how much I’m expecting to spend tho, lol. Thanks for the great suggestion.
That would be awesome if they came out with a bracket!

These look promising. Thanks! Totally going to look into these.
Hey Dan I just got it too and I am new to FPV Drones this is my first one and I can say it is so fun to use even with the new controler motion one, I am a gamer so I am use to VR Games and Nintendo Wii so its kinda same in a way. my channel is mostly gaming and vlogs. I sub keep it up!
