The Authentic Miao Market Only Can Be Seen in Rural China
Hey everyone, today is my lucky day! I met a new friend, Xiaolong. He's a local from Heku and currently works in Fenghuang County. Xiaolong is not only a trained cook but also a talented writer with thoughtful ideas. We quickly became friends and started chatting under the pouring rain at the bus station.
With his company, my tour became much more fun. As we explored the market, I got to see things from a local's perspective. Constantly asking Xiaolong about everything that sparked my curiosity about Heku, I began to realize there's a gap between the younger and older generations here. Surprisingly, there are many local traditions that Xiaolong didn't even know about.
Because of the heavy rain and the lack of shuttle buses, I had to cut this trip short. However, it made me even more excited about my tour tomorrow to the market in Shanjiang Town.
Alright, guys! I'm going to relax a bit and do some editing. Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoyed the video. See you in the next video!

Phoenix Watertown The Most Successful Tourist Attraction in China
มุมมอง 86721 วันที่ผ่านมา
Phoenix Watertown is a place I visited almost ten years ago. Revisiting it, I sense that a lot has been changed, yet a lot hasn’t. It is still one of the most successful tourist attractions in China. Do you know that the airport in Guizhou province was named Fenghuang(phoenix) because of Phoenix Watertown? It was a genius business strategy! Having the chance to try the shrimp pancake again is w...

After the local gathering, I continued my quest to find the ancestral hall I had glimpsed from the train window. Fortunately, just when I was beginning to doubt my search, I stumbled upon the ancestral hall standing proudly in the heart of the deserted village. Continuing from the previous visit, Liling has left me with so much more to talk about and many areas that I have yet to discover on this trip. Big thanks to all the beautiful people I met along the trip! And WELCOME to my channel! After leaving my office job, I reunited briefly with my family, only to find that the endless anxiety persisted. Hi Jay. You speak very well and revealed your inner self quite admirably. Good luck.
((( Throughout this entire video I did not hear a word that I recognized it or related to known as Hmong :( So sad they have changed completely to a new world )))
Honestly, thank you so much for your comment because it literally told me something I didn’t know. And there is no way for me to tell which one has changed, the local Miao culture or the overseas Hmong culture from its original. I will upload a new episode shortly which is also about Miao market but in a different town. In the episode you will find that even in a nearby town their culture expressions are different. It was just amazing!
There is a TH-camr by the name of, Miao Aduo who appears to represent. But honestly, I knew it was more ❤
You are absolutely right! I must apologize because I failed to upload new episode in time. As soon as I recover from current body condition, I will finishing the new episode. I can’t wait to show you guys what I experienced in another market.
My favourite weather. Cloudy cool high mountain areas and raining.
Thank you for this marvellous presentation. I see you have already posted some videos on TH-cam. I will take my time to watch them all. Just a quick question. Where did you pick up your spoken English? You are good. Wish you success and all the best. Grandpa 76.
I am so flattered! Thank you so much for watching! I have a few years of schooling experience in the US. I will try my best to vocally deliver more information through my videos. Thanks again! My respect!

Yes, we are Hmong. Thanks for the notice.
Seems like the moonsoon season started. 👍
Awesome video! How can I contact you ?

谢谢你拍我家乡,我是来自哪里的苗族!
哈哈,非常喜欢你家那边,也很喜欢当地苗族的文化和气息!希望以后还可以去!
The taxi driver called himself baby 😂😂what a lovely human ❤❤
@@luxi2701 He was very kind as well, offered me his umbrella because of the heavy rain.
Good background muisc!
Thanks!
From ancient time we alway called ourselves Hmong (Mong), but the Chinese historians documented Miao.
Interesting! As Chinese, ever since I was little, Miao was always known as Miao. I’d like to learn more about Hmong!
@@ThroughTheJayLens Come to the US for a full appreciation the Hmong true culture and identity
Wow. I loved the vibes, rainy and foggy climate makes up for a charming scenery. I hope your project reaches the algorithm because there're not many channels like yours, showing local china from this perspective. So far, I've been able to meet naxi, tibetan and now miao people thanks to this kind of channels, worth more than a thousand books on the topic. Keep it up, I enjoyed it very much😁
Thank you so much for your kind review! I enjoyed making this video as much as you watching it. So glad to hear you like our China local culture. There is so much more I want to express in the future videos.
Awesome video 👍🙏❤️phoenix USA 🇺🇸. Beautiful towns. What ashamed thy don’t repair them. Keep up the great work 😊
Thanks! More videos are on the way!
Only those remaining in China called themselves Miao, but those of us outside of China are known as Hmong
Wow! Thanks! Learned something more! I wonder how Hmong culture has shifted from Miao culture, since your culture is so fascinating!
@@ThroughTheJayLens A few hundred years of hardship from China through SE Asia to the US. Our origin of Miao is too far gone, nowadays most Hmong identified ourselves as SE Asian American rather than Asian American. You should come to the US to learn more of our unique modern culture evolved.
Hmong is called in Laos/Vietnam. It is also including other sub-groups like Hmu, Kho (Qho) Xiong, and A-Hmao.
Hi ,which month to go ,?
I think it is good all year round. However, it is a bit cold during the winter though. There is no heater indoor in most southern parts of China during the winter.
Wow ,nice which website to book?
I think the general ones which are being used outside of China should work. However, if you are looking for better deal or more options, the Chinese app like Fei Zhu and Xiecheng should be better.
Thanks for sharing! How to travel there by train?
Thanks for watching! For Chinese citizen, it is easier to book a train ticket on a phone app. Unfortunately, ordering a ticket using passport will only be available at ticket office. It is a little inconvenient. Most people travel to Fenghuang from Jishou or Changsha. To figure out whether there is a train from your place to Fenghuang, the simplest way is to go to apps like 12306 or Feizhu.
Interesting vlog…but where is Heku? You mentioned Fenghuang? What province? Where do the Miao people live predominantly? It would be good if you include more detail information like this in your travels. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! I included most of your questions in the pervious video. For your convenience, Heku is in Fenghuang county, and is in Hunan province! The whole Xiangxi area is where Miao people live. So, there are tons of places around that area are worth going. BTW, Xiangxi is the Miao and Tujia prefecture that covers a big part of Hunan province.
Cannot find this Watertown in google map. How to get there?
@@tonysum3987 try google Fenghuang town or Phoenix town, find the one in Hunan province! There maybe other places also in that name in some other areas in China. Enjoy your trip in China! Let me know if you can’t find it!
enjoy your trip
Thanks!
Thank you for this video of real life in China!

Very nice video! Such a contrast of the old (architecture, cuisine, food, customs, culture) and the very new (electric car and carrying around a dog in a stroller). 👍
Thanks! That’s a very sharp perspective! It reminded me my impression of Xiangxi.
Welcome to my hometown! Seems the old man in the video was fooled by charlatans!
I enjoyed Yichun trip a lot! Love your home city. And, yes, I thought the same. Anyway, I hope he is doing fine! There is a bit of an unspoken struggle there.
中国老百姓很淳朴
是的,大家都非常友善和热情,让我四处行走很温暖
This video really allows everyone to see a different China, not all of them are big cities like Shanghai and Beijing.
would love to also see something from the poor regions
Hey here, my friend. I am currently in Jiangxi province China and planning on visiting the border region of Jiangxi and Hunan. Through my route, I am pretty sure that I will pass by some underdeveloped places. Actually, I am looking forward to see the Miao minority market deep into the mountain area in the near future.
I had a great time watching this video! I felt like I was taking this trip with you. The footage you caught of the woman singing while working in her garden... wow...what a beautiful moment! I felt like I was transported to another time and place. Looking forward to more videos from you. I hope you find more of the peace and self discovery you're seeking :) Also, hello from USA!
