ABOUT
This isn’t your grandpa’s networking.
What if you stopped networking and instead started building intentional, authentic relationships?
What if you made building authentic relationships a part of your weekly and monthly goals? What if you met cool people just for the sake of meeting cool people, and you allowed yourself to see where it takes you?
At One Hello, we discourage “networking” for the sake of leverage and, instead, help you focus on building real relationships.
When networking feels less transactional and more like it should (like it’s enriching our lives), that’s the sweet spot!

How do you react when you see someone from a different dept. and I say good morning and by the time you say moooorn…. The other person acts as is she has seen the devil and does this many times. And then one day after 3 years tries to have a friendly conversation. 😮

My question is, how to let go of the fear of rejection; do you have a course on that?

    • @OneHelloConsulting
      @OneHelloConsulting หลายเดือนก่อน

Great question. No, I don’t have a course on it and I struggle with it to. Honestly as of now I’ve learned to nurse my wounds and then get up and try again because the possible benefits are greater than the rejection so it’s worth the risk. But man rejection is hard. I’ll try and do an episode on it soon.

Well my point is you should care for people (I actually think most people don’t care for others enough) but care does not have to mean “giving value”

Somewhere you can see someone on a weekly basis at least. you get to "know" each other. And actually build relationships. Vs at bar / club or event a quick event. Your there boom next time they are somewhere else. This is why relationships can develop at work. You get to be around someone and get a feel for them rather than a stranger on the st.

I agree with the first two reasons. But #3, yes there are times you don't know what to say, such as giving advice. Then just say that you are not comfortable giving advice, and either suggest someone who could (clear that first with the person) or say I will get back to you on that one, let me put something together for you. I guess what I am saying is just acknowledge the person in some way.

    • @OneHelloConsulting

I completely agree that that is the right thing to do but I’m sharing from experience that sometimes we don’t always do the right thing. Which I’m not proud of. However I want those who send emails and don’t hear back to know it’s not their fault!

would you have any advice for drop in classes? i use ClassPass and sometimes manage to book the same time slot every week... but 90% of the time, all my classmates are different people. its often like this with dance or gym classes as well. most tend to be "drop in" classes

    • @OneHelloConsulting

I remember you made a video before about loneliness and hybrid working and I read the comments and people were saying hybrid is great because they have more time to spend with their friends and family or they can avoid the toxicity of their office. My family also reap the benefits of hybrid working because there's always someone at home to keep an eye on and care for my elderly grandma. But I think people forget that not everyone has friends and family that they can easily visit and also, not every office is toxic. I heard this suggestion from someone and don't remember it well, but if you and your friend have the same work-at-home days, you could gather at one person's house and work there. If you need to take a call, you can go into another room etc. I've never tried this before (and it's not my idea!) but I think it would work because you're having the social interaction with your friends and working as well, sort of making your own office. I think the only issue is if you work on confidential stuff that can't be shared with other people

I definitely found it a huge adjustment going fully remote. It's been a year and it is definitely so easy to slide into being a hermit. My tactic now is to do something different every workday to shake things up. One day I'll work in the coffee shop, one day I'll go for a walk before work, one day I'll grab by morning coffee to-go, one day I'll do my morning shopping run, and luckily my company pays for shared office space, so I'll work from the local shared space which feels exactly like being "at the office". It's helped immensely with my mental health.

Such timely advice, and yes I am part of a party committee at work and when we make it optional, we don't get a lot of participation. Looking to change that in the future with a team building theme that includes food and it will be in spurts during the day to not interrupt productivity.
