    Faye laid it on Don in a previous season when he said 'You only like the beginnings of things.'. He loves the attention, the adoration, and loyalty up to a point. And then he goes out looking for a challenge, and emotionally blows up the good woman he has. People forget that Betty became the ice queen she did BECAUSE of Don. She was a wonderful wife in the first two seasons. Don destroyed her with his verbal and psychological abuse, along with all the affairs. Megan was even better than Betty. Once she wanted to do something for herself, he was done with her, even if he didn't know it consciously. That was when he started sabotaging the relationship, and really her career as well by simply not being supportive, and her head not entirely being in it.

    I think the point of this scene is that Don was just never comfortable in his own skin and obviously aside from living with someone else’s name and identity, he couldn’t handle anything real. It would make him great as a salesman because you have to be ice cold and it also is what made him so bad as a husband. He looked to be genuinely confused by this point. It was like he was thinking since he wasn’t having a full-blown affair with anyone else, everything should be fine and him telling her that he was home instead of at work should be all forgiven and she should just be relieved and overjoyed that at least he wasn’t with another woman. When, in fact, he was living a lie for nearly a year, even if it didn’t mean that it was with another woman he was still lying about it but somebody who lies as often as he does doesn’t understand why it’s such a big deal, but he’s the last person that would want ever to be lied to. They don’t even realize their own hypocrisy, people like that. His entire dynamic can be seen throughout his relationships with women. The closer he gets, the easier it is for that woman to walk away from him. When in reality, it should be the other way around. But for him, it’s not. Because he’s very top-heavy. When you first meet him, he’s very intriguing and he’s charming and he’s cool and he’s interesting. But as you get to know him, he’s really nothing but a lost little boy in a grown man’s body who has an alcohol problem and is prone to cheating. I actually felt bad for the guy right here because I think he genuinely just didn’t even understand that he did anything wrong. He’s also delusional thinking that he doesn’t even drink a lot when in fact, he drinks all the time.

    I think chalking Joan up to simply being racist is being to simplistic. Joan is a pragmatist to the core and at the start of the show Joan is complicit with the racism and sexism as just a burden to be endured, but she grew and found a way to escape. Integration is a nice idea but there are a lot of social issues involved and a lot of that emotional labor is just dropped on Joan a woman as is typical and still is to this day that women will just do all this emotional labor keeping things smooth.

    "i don't want you to worry about me anymore....but first give me a Million dollars for breaking up with you" ouch. Megan was amazing at the beginning. but she turned out to be a horrible woman for Don. A social climber who was only after his Success and social status.

    • @DodaGarcia
      @DodaGarcia 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hm, that's not quite accurate. First of all, she didn't ask for a million dollars, he gave it to her. And also while she might have been the first to acknowledge the end, arguably he's the one who ended their marriage by moving her to the west coast, removing her from the job and support network she had in NY, and then backing out of his end of the deal. About the money, it is true that she became a lot less high and mighty about taking Don's cash once she started facing the realities of being single again (having to haggle with him over the money for movers, having to put up with Harry for opportunities, etc.). But once again that's a direct result of the horrible position he put her in with his California dreaming, and Don realized that when Harry told him about Megan's desperation. So while yes, she would have probably been granted alimony if Don hadn't settled for a million dollars, but doesn't it sounds pretty fair that she was granted the opportunity to get her life back together after uprooting it for him? All that said, I do agree Megan was a climber and one of the most manipulative characters in the show. She's wonderfully written. I just don't agree that her eventual bitterness at Don happened out of thin air as though she became an unhappy bitch just for kicks. Don played a huge part in that change and that's probably why he chose to just settle and move on rather than spend months in court being confronted with the mistakes he made with her.

      I think she is a great actress in the show, but her character is meant to be that way, do you remember her parents, how her mom said to her face "I'm glad I never made my kids a priority", and her dad constantly fills her head with insecurities. I always thought her character was very well written, and I think it makes sense that Don would fall for a spoiled brat, that's who Betty was too. I think people like her because she is extremely loyal, compared to all the other characters who are liars and cheats and isn't easily manipulated by Don. I think she is one of the least objectionable characters.

    Peggy was annoying from the beginning of the show. I outright hated her in season 4 when she made the comment that she had it rough working as well having to claw her way to where and that black people needed to do the same. She completely overlooked the fact that she tried to seduce Draper on her first day, had a baby with Pete, changed her hair to appear “womanly” in the office, and stripping naked for a male coworker to cooperate. At every turn, she used “I’m a woman” to appeal to the guys in the office but never stood herself equal to them. Yes, she became the agency’s only female copywriter but people still thought she was a lesbian. Having to fight like she did? Until the last season, there were no black people in the office and the only other women in the office were all secretaries. Black people were intentionally shut out from even having the opportunity to claw their way to the top because of hiring laws that allowed employers to discriminate based on race but Peggy wants to act like she did something completely on her own like being a white female didnt at least appeal to the white men in the office.
