What i found with the victoriana is that i enjoyed the first half of the bottle then it just got so sweet as it oxidized over the few weeks i had it , was literally just sweetness taking over the whole thing was not that impressed by it - i prefer the GS 15 once you get past the first initial seaweed vibe it has. Think Glen Garioch 12 standard bottling would give this a good run and more than half the price you cant go wrong.
Finished in virgin oak, it's matured in ex bourbon.
Good stuff!
If there is such a thing as a Steam Punk Bar, this is the Scotch that would be there. This is great stuff serious quality for the price. According to the German website, it is not colored. Cheers
No reviews why this video
Great outdoor background. Solid bottle there, hope you continued to enjoy it. Cheers!
Yeah, between us and the other bands, that bottle didn’t last long, that’s for sure.
Another legend is born and therefore the spirit lives on… nice one guys!
THanks for swinging by to watch!
Thanks for the review. I just got an 11 year old calvados single cask, it’s pretty spectacular. It shouldn’t be long before Kilchoman can put out a proper age-stated line, they should have plenty of 12+ year old stock by now.
i shudder at the price it'll cost, but i think the juice will be spectacular.
Nice review!!
Thanks Kristi!
my favourite rye is probably Lot 40. Northern harvest rye ( Crown Royal), is also very good.
Lot 40 was my all-time favourite Canadian whisky until I discovered distilleries like Two Brewers and Shelterpoint. I still buy Lot40 on the regular, though. So good. I recently picked up my first bottle of the Northern Harvest and was pleasantly surprised.
Very much still thinking about this dram! Might need another bottle in the not too distant future! 🥃
I support this concept.
Great review 👍
Such a good bottle.
I haven’t tried this scotch yet! I will! Pricey in BC but all scotch is! Mostly I’m a mega peat head!! Awesome video!!
I used to be all peat, all the time. I started this channel during the pandemic because I couldn’t do my usual stuff, and it’s really opened up my tastes.
I love your reviews ; great job! Îm from Montreal, & i would love to see more reviews of Quebec whiskeys. Did you try the Cirka Monarque, & if so, what’s your opinion on it? Do you have a whiskey review channel in French? Keep up the good reviews !
I haven’t tried the Monarque yet! I almost bought it a couple of weeks ago, but there was something else there that I wanted and didn’t have the $ for two bottles. I have a bottle of their Whisky N°2, and it’s great. I don’t have a French channel no might do one at done point, but not sure.
Excellent review. I'm in Alberta but just bought this as a gift for a friend in Ontario from the LCBO. Sounds like he'll enjoy it and I'll definitely have to get a bottle for myself in the near future.
totally worth the purchase.
So when you say "American oak" are you talking about the barrel that it comes from? I have no idea what wood whiskey barrels are made from. Thanks for sharing 👍
Scotch casks are virtually all ex-bourbon barrels. A lot of Japanese whisky is aged the same way, partly because Japanese mizunara oak is ridiculously hard to work with.
Going somewhere good is better than so many! Cheers!
Nikka puts out so much good juice.
@@RaindanceBushcraft Agreed!
Triggered… Lol!
Hah!
That was a lot of work! Very cool though. I need to play through Fallout. Not sure how I missed the series. Cheers!
Love me some Fallout. Not so much time to play right now, but at one point the kids’ll be more self-propelled…
@@dribsanddrams Lol, I had almost more time when the kids were young. At least they went to bed and I had the evening. now ... strange times.
@WhiskyNeighbour legit. Sigh…
The nuttiness probably came from the green cardamom. Now I'm craving a jack and coke and I have neither in the house! Thanks Jes..😆
I’m here to help 😁
Wow, a lot of effort went into this little drink!! The syrup did look really good. I like to clean as a work too lol Interesting that it tasted peppery.🤔🤔 It was fun to watch you give this drink a try for the first time!! Awesome video, Jes!!
Yeah, it’s a lot of work. You get like a half-dozen pops out of it if you do 7 tbsp of syrup per glass; a few more if you do 5tbsp.
Weird how a recipe for cola contains no cola nut 🌰 you’d think they would have had at least a little
I guess they were referring to 'Cola' as 'brown pop' rather than an actual cola.
@@dribsanddrams I’ve heard a lot of modern cola doesn’t contain cola, which is sad cause it’s actually a good flavor. I’ve had a few “natural” ones and I liked them.
Nikka Coffey: Would be a star whisky if they only applied themselves 😂 Love it man, nice review🥃
The whisky and I have that in common, apparently. 😅
Love the location! It would have been so much fun to seep the impromtu lake swim ;) A couple minutes in ... switch to French was perfect! Coming back to this ... I now really enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.
Though I'd have been grumpy about it, the swim would have made for great content for sure. I was going to edit out the convo with the Missus, but it kinda explained why the video felt a little rushed.
@@dribsanddrams Felt authentic, you came right back in no problem! Cheers!
You really can’t expect more from that great distinct taste… Ahhh memories.
It's a distinctive taste. I wish I loved it more, but I *do* like it quite a bit.
I like what you are doing never had a Nikka but I live vicariously through you
If you can pick one up, it'll be a good buy . The Nikka From the Barrel would be my choice for a first Nikka.
Nice one! Nikka from the Barrel is a staple for sure!
Yeah, I love that little guy for sure. There are a couple of other Nikkas I'd like to try, especially now that they're bringing age statements back.
I like this dram! Their gin is fascinating! I have had a couple of these over the years and although it's clearly a young whisky I enjoy it! I are that another 10 years or more would make a tremendous difference! Tonight I am sipping an Ardbeg An Oa! My first time!! Loving the smoke! Nikka Yoichi is my favourite! Delicious and I enjoy the peat! Have a terrific weekend! Cheers! 🙂
Urgh. You just reminded me that I have to shoot my second review of the An Oa. I haven't had the Nikka gin yet, but that's mostly because I have scads of gin right now. I also like the Yoichi, and in fact, I edited out a whole bit on that dram because it dragged on the focus of this video.
@@dribsanddrams Hey I look forward to the second review of Ardbeg's An Oa! Great minds think alike! Yoichi rocks! Yes there is so much awesome gin out there now - lovely craft distilleries! Cheers! 🙂
Why do you pour it that way on the spoon? I like the channel and seeing the different things you drink and make. Needed to get yourself a large sippy cup and and them all in there and sip it throughout the evening LOL
Pouring down the spoon that way helps reduce foaming. I learned the trick from a Canadian bartender on TikTok, of all places...
Coke and whiskey. Yep, they go together, very cool to try different international coke releases. Cheers!
Yeah, I don't like the usual Coke at all, so when I discovered the Mexican at my supermarket, I figured I'd try it and was pleasantly surprised.
I don't think I've ever seen Mexican Coke here on the West Coast. I stopped drinking rum and coke because I can't stand the chemical sugar taste.
The Mexican Coke tastes way better. The reason I stopped drinking Coke for the same reason.
I need to get a can of Swedish Coke into your hands. All of our soda is made with beet sugar. You get used to it after a while, but initially to me it tasted distinctly ... beet-y.
I. Need. To. Try. That.
Thanks / merci.
So far, the best Canadian whisky I've tasted is Alberta Premium Cask Strength, batch such and such. I've not tried Lot 40 or Gooderham & Worts, but would like to, although the last time I was in an LCBO, I couldn't find G & W. Thanks for the review.
The Alberta Premium Cask Strength is legit great whisky. We can only get the standard Lot 40 in Quebec, but there are some other versions available elsewhere in Canada that I’d love to try. The G&W is tough to find here as well. But then, everything is tough to find where I live, which is why I buy so much of my whisky in Alberta then just eat the shipping costs.
It’s non chill filtered and no color added. It’s a nice whisky at a good price
Agreed. Thanks for watching!
Okay I have to find a bottle of Ardcore! Sounds amazing Jesse!! :-)
Hey my husband Joel and I just finished a bottle of this Johnnie Walker Green Label! Nice! I am huge peat head but this scotch is truly very enjoyable! I am not usually a JW fan bit this is a nice scotch blend! Love the heather, leather and just a tiny whif of smokey brine - love that sooo much!! It must be the Talisker!! Hard not to love right? ! Yes the JW Red is pathetic - huge understatement! ! Agreed - no water needs to be added! I do prefer more smoke and brine and I absolutely adore Islay peated scotch but this is a nice blended scotch dram. $115 in Vancouver before taxes. A bit pricey. The blue is overrated and overpriced! For this price there is better scotch out there but JW does do a good job with this blend!! Thanks so much!! 🙂
I think it’s my fave of the JW range. I’m also more into single malts and Islay drams, but this definitely has a place in my bar cart.
@@dribsanddrams Love this beauty and yay to peat! Fire up the BBQ and have a couple of delicious drams with this JW Green Label or a nice peat monster! Hope you are well! Cheers! 🙂
Great review, Jes! I will have to see if I can find this one! Is this video recent? Is it still that cool outside in your neck of the woods? I'm jealous.
Just over a week ago. Then it got stankin’ hot. Then it got cool and rainy. You should be able to find this one; it’s pretty common.
The latest Offerman in a rum cask is fabulous!
I have t seen it locally yet, but it sounds fab.
@@dribsanddrams It's bliss!! Keep an eye out!!
This is a fabulous and delicious dram!! Great video!
Sure is! And I’m glad I like it do much; I had it built up in my head so I was afraid it might let me down.
@@dribsanddrams I understand! That happens to me sometimes! I get so excited to trying a scotch and hope so much that it will be amazing!! I am so happy that you weren't disappointed! The 17 is also fabulous! Far more pricey which is annoying for 4 more years of ageing! Have a great day!! 🙂
I love the label, anything that looks like it came from the 1800's will get me everytime, of course that's why they make it that way. Great review 👍
Yeah, they’re really leaning into the old-fashioned method they use. I’m all for it as well.
Lots of creative descriptions here. This is a favourite dirty whisky for me. Thanks for sharing!
I loved it. Is there another dirty ol’ dram you think I should explore next?
thank you for reviewing this, its on my maybe list.
The nice thing is that in most markets, it’s extremely reasonably priced so it’s not an expensive mistake if you don’t love it.
Great video, as always! I like the outdoors setting and wind isn't an issue, even with headphones.
Yeah, I worked on the sound to minimise the wind noise. I have another mic setup that’s better but uh… the batteries were dead. Sigh…
From the Craigellachie website: "A STEADFAST DRAM All Craigellachie expressions are non-chill filtered, contain no caramel colouring and are bottled at 46% ABV."
When i first bough this whisky , i said to myself , man, this the first whisky in my collection that i regret buying , didn't like it , a year later , on my third bottle . When it opens up after a week or. 2, i completely fell in love with it hence the 2 other purchases. The only whisky i bought that i didn't immediately like ...audio bit weird though
Agreed. The audio was a chore because I was working around some wind noise. I also went out and bought a second bottle for once this one’s done.
"carpenters dram"... I'm not sure if I take offence to that or not?!?! 😁🤣
That's a big fat compliment! 👍😁
To me, it’s a complement.
I think I might like this one!!!
It’s a lovely dram.
It’s a beautiful day in the Neighbourhood!
Sure was!
Hey listen , i never put Lagavulin on my whisky lists , in my opinion , too expensive as you've stated in the past . The 8 is the first whisky i bought that i actually regretted buying , however , after the 16 being too pricey , i figured my lagavulin days were behind me , until , like you , discovered the charred oak edition from Offerman ,very pleased ( my only regret is i didn't get on the regular 11 or guiness edition from the previous offerman's) all that being said , you should check out the new limited rum cask edition , it's a hit ,love it , and you should try it ,it's a summer dram no doubt and the bottling details , love your channel , cheers buddy
I’m looking for that rum cask edition but it hasn’t shown up here yet. I’m gonna jump in it as soon as it shows up for sure.
