Hello! My name is Patrick, and welcome to the Mini-Marceline Model Railroad!
This is a Lionel O Gauge 4x8 train layout dedicated to my native town, Marceline, Missouri. Once a major hub of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe railroad, Marceline was a thriving railroad town, particularly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although crew changes for freight trains and passenger services have ceased in Marceline, 70+ trains still pass through town in any given day!
Marceline is also the Boyhood Home of Walt Disney! In 1906, Elias and Flora Disney moved their family to Marceline from Chicago, IL. Walt, their youngest son, would experience many childhood "firsts" in Marceline. He attended his first school, saw his first motion picture, and saw “Peter Pan”, his first live stage performance. Walt's uncle worked for the Santa Fe railroad, and his lifelong love of trains all began by watching the steam locomotives in Marceline.

The "Empress", Canadian Pacific No. 2816, in Davenport, IA - May 10, 2024
During the afternoon of Friday, May 10, 2024, the Canadian Pacific 4-6-4 Steam Locomotive "The Empress" visited the Quad Cities! This historic locomotive put on show for thousands of people in downtown Davenport, IA during its "Final Spike Steam Tour." This video was taken at the conclusion of the event, with the locomotive and its consist pulling out of downtown Davenport to the CPKC rail yard in Nahant, IA.

As I still learn from model railroading, a layout doesn’t have to be huge in order to be a grand or amazing sight. Plenty of small layouts that have been lovingly prepared are just as amazing and beautiful as their larger counterparts. Absolutely marvellous work and I hope you continue to enjoy your layout for many more years to come. I have to questions though. The first is do you use foam underneath the Fastrack to quiet the sound of the trains? The second is what curves do you use for your layout? Your equipment seems to glide around them so I’m guessing that it is not O-36, at least for the outer line.

Your layout has inspired me so much by having a huge amount of detail in such little area but I really want to know how you do your grass and scenery
Thank you very much for the kind words! When I built the layout four years ago, I put a sheet of insulation board on top of my table (to eventually quiet down the noise from the track). Once it was secured, I began painting the board with a brown “earth” color, then sprinkled Woodland ascetics grass on the board as the paint dried. Having the insulation board also gave a soft texture for inserting scenery - trees, bushes, etc.
Nice rolling stock!
The primarily red warbonnet paint scheme was was used for passenger trains. Whereas for freight service, the primarily blue warbonnet f units were used.

Nice vid. Ive got a metal silver kline streamline passenger set from the early 1990's, similar to yours. Ive got a good collection, but nothing has run for 8 to 12 years, building a new trainboard. Kinda fearful, but, like you, hopefully can do some of any problem fixes..gary j

Exceptional video shots at just the right distance for best advantage for your space. Im 2 weeks away from doing my first video on my new trainboard. Its not scenicked much but ran trains only 2 times in 3 years. Way underestimated the time to do a new trainboard, 17 by 24 ft. I'll try to learn your filming techniques..gary j
