Hi, really enjoyed the video. We live in Hungary and travel to UK and then sometimes down to Spain and then back to Hungary. In a 9 year old Model S, so reduced range to yours but stull little to no problem. We also sleep in the car with a Tesla dreamcase mattress. If you want to see the channel it is Tessies Travels. We look forward to seeing more videos from you.
What range did you have on the remote to still reliably kill it?
@@phantumviper3873 I t works reliably. I don't know the range. The furthest i troed it was about 20 meters.
I have a small knocking when pulling away and low speed acceleration, the right drive shaft is loose like yours. Did u have any knocking or notice it quieter when changed. Glad you got the yours fixed up and thank for the video.
@@SimonGregory-r2n I had a knocking noise at low speed when acceleratimg and decelarating, but that was due to the gearbox mount. Unfortunately I did not record that, but it is a very straight forward repair. The driveshaft did not cause knocking.

6:40 more expensive to dc charge per mile than it is to pay for diesel or petrol and cheaper to drive BMW 520d than Tesla? How can that be even right?
@@saeedminaii6023 in the UK that is correct. Most DC chargers cost 0.7-0.9 pounds per kW. If you do the maths you will find that it is cheaper to drive a diesel car.
Would you have to do a wheel alignment after completing this job?
@@androidloid2191 i have not thought abou that. I would say NO, because I did not touch the geometry at all. I did not touch the track rod.

Sound it seems rather simple enough, would it be the procedure for the other side?
@@christowle7093 the other side is is the same, but the drive shaft is shorter and does not have the bearing in the middle. So just a few less bolts.
@@hosuandreiremus thanks for replying, still have to drain gearbox oil and remove lower suspension arm from the hub? Cheers
@@christowle7093 yes. You still need to drain the oil otherwise it will leak when ehrn you remove the driveshaft. I also think you need to disconnect from the hub, otherwise I cant see a way to pull the driveshaft out.

@@MrGayle_ they are great and the range is very good. Cant fault it. Had it for 6 months.
2:12 why didn’t you use autopilot on this long stretch of road?
@@calebmcclure3893 i dont trust it enough when the family is in the car. I use it when I am on my own, but dont feel confortable with it. I use the cruise control all the way, but I prefer to do the steering myself.
Phantom braking is a big issue and if you’re not concentrating it’ll kill you. I do wish Tesla would sort this but they don’t seem interested, been going on for years.
@@Yorkshireasaurus i have not noticed that. Sometimes, when on cruise control, if i am on the first lane and there is an off ramp it will change the speed from 70mph to 40mph, and if there is a truck behind it can be very dangerous, because the regen braking is quite strong. But overall I don’t trust autopilot and I am conscious of the limitations of cruise control control
I tried to do this and my tube has got stuck inside the oil dipstick tube, it got sucked in a little while the motor was running. Im afraid to turn the motor back on, what can or should i do????
@@MilienXo that is a bit strange. You will have to pull the tube out. You dont have much choice. It is brobably feels stuck because the dipstick tube has all sorts of bends in it to reach the oil sump. But there shoild not be anything that is holding it stuck. I would avoid this oil change method. I found that it cant suck up all the oil
If the EGR is dirty that quick again after cleaning, maybe another issue is going on. A faulty MAP and/or MAF sensor could also be the problem. These sensors together with the turbo pressure sensor tell the ECU the right amount of air/fuel mixture depending on what is asked from the engine. Too much fuel, more waste in the exhaust gasses etc. If one of these sensors is faulty that also produces loss of power and a fault code. Though not sure about this, but there is as far as I know not a specific fault code for a faulty sensor. Best to check them individually or replaced them all.
Agree with your comments but I think having a thin ash coaring shortly after cleaning the EGR is normal. I did clean the MAF sensor as well and checked the MAP sensor is working correctly. Generally , when a sensor fails it will show as open circuit or very high resistance and the ECU will pick it up. But if you have a case where you are getting incorrect readings the ECU might try and interpret the data as correct. I had issues like this on a different car where I replaced a faulty sensor with the incorrect part number ad caused a lot of problems. In this particular instance I never got to the bottom of the issue.
Great video
Thank very much
Great video bud, was very helpful. Nice to see I wasn't the only one struggling with this nut and hub-bearing assembly, suffering in company is always better.
We have the same car, when pushing down the pedal it just makes click but don't move, the battery is fully charged and good. I'm suspect something with the fuse?
@@fredriksalmen5159 does the car powers up and the music works when you press the on button? If it does, then try and use a multimeter to see if any power is sent to the motor when you press the pedal. It could be the pedal or the forward/reverse switch that are broken.
@@hosuandreiremus All fixed, was some loose connection. Thinking of upgrading it to a 20K or 30K rpm engine, any problems doing that?
@fredriksalmen5159 no issues for me. I have a video where i fitted a PWM controller on one of these cars. I put faster motors and bigger battery and wanted a way to control the speed. Have a look and consider it.
Where do you buy the replacement parts?

I thought using the Tesla charging network would be cheaper than your diesel for long runs?!!!
@@andrewtruscott8515 it depends where you live and how efficient your diesel car is. In the UK charging is expensive but in Europe I found it to be a bit cheaper. I have recently done a long trip through Europe and it worked out about 25% cheaper than my diesel car. But I need to mention that the non Tesla chargers cost almost double.
@@hosuandreiremus cheers… so as long as you stick with Tesla network and charge at certain times it’s cheaper…
@@andrewtruscott8515 yes. Tesla Offers the cheapest rates and chargin off peak also helps. But charging at home is by far the cheapes way charge your car and 99% of my charging is done at home thanks to the generous range of the Model 3. I find myself driving the Tesla much more than the diesel car even on long journeys.
Dear Hosu, a question from me as well if I may. You show in the video that the gear doesn’t spin smoothly at all when you’ve taken the motors out. I’m trying to follow you in fixing a car myself as well, and found that I really need to manually (mildly) “push” the gear with my fingers for it to move (completely taken the motor out of the gear box) and while moving with my fingers I feel it “ticking” forward. Hence: not smooth at all either. Is that a proper sign that the motor múst be broken? It’s like this on both sides and I don’t see any burn damage, nor does the inside of the gear box (the white wheels) seem damaged. So: should I be buying new motors / gears, because they are obviously broken (on both sides)? Should the gear be spinning freely if I give it a sweep with my fingers? Also: do you have a suggestion what may have caused both motors to get broken like this? Is it perhaps caused by trying to ride the car on grass / mud (hence to much resistance)? By the way: truly love your video. You really inspired me to follow your lead! Thank you!
@@pietcosmetic1420 the motors will have some natural resistance because of the magnets inside and the brushes, so I don't think the motors are broken. You should be able to change the damaged gears and it will work, but I dont know if you can find the gears only. When I bought some motors they come with 3 types of gears of different sizes, so knowing what size you need is a bit of a guessing game. The easiest option is to get a set of motors complete with gearbox because they are not very expensive. Also, riding on the grass is probably the reason the plastic gears got damaged.
One question please, I have bought a car for my son and I changed the motors, I put in higher revs. my problem is that it works for 15 seconds and then it turns off by itself and turns on after 5 seconds. this happens constantly. it had a 12v battery 4.5Ah and I put a new 12v 9Ah one but it still does the same thing. Do you know what the problem is? Can you help me?
@@bambamyt5915 I have the same problem when the car is on low speed. There is a high/low button. In low speed the motors are probably wired in series and the voltage drop is very high, causing the controller to switch off. When on high speed, the motors are in parallel. This draws more current but the voltage drop is less.
@@hosuandreiremus Thank you very much for the prompt reply. Can you tell me what I should do? or what are the possible solutions? sorry but i am very inexperienced with these.thank you very much again.
@@bambamyt5915 does the car have a high and low speed setting? If it does, try and use the high speed and see if the problem persists and let me know.
@@hosuandreiremus I looked to find if it has a speed regulator but I can't find anything. only one remote control has a black box which is logically some kind of safety? I don't know. it says 8A again. the remote control only has three speeds, slow, medium, fast. no matter where I put it, the car shuts off again.
@@bambamyt5915 I don’t know how to fix it without having a look, but from what you said, it sounds like the new motor is causing a large voltage drop that is causing the controller to switch off. Since you have already changed the battery to one that has more capacity I am not sure what to recommend.
Thanks so much. I'm doing this right now. You showed every step and the long bolts through the caliper carrier holes is the most important part to free the bad bearing. Thanks again. :) :)
