It definitely seems like Boss Battler games don't resonate with you guys. While the card system and linking combos together isn't anything I would consider groundbreaking, I think there are enough mechanics with the monsters that it provides a lot of interesting choices. You can lock monster behaviors, reduce the monsters struggle/rage counters, inflict damage, or choose from a wide variety of assist type abilities to other players. I also don't think adding dice to Boss Battlers would add any level of intensity or fun to the game. Dice games are a lot more risk vs reward focused which works great for competitive games. In a cooperative game where you're trying to take down a single monster, you want players to work together to get the desired outcome and not have the dice decide the game for you. Good luck on your channel (no sarcasm). I think you would have been better off calling this a 1st impressions though as you guys didn't put enough time into the game to do a proper review and barely spoke about any of the mechanics in the game, which is perfectly fine when you guys clearly didn't like the game, but calling this a review when in reality it's just 5 minutes of you saying not to buy it. Which isn't very helpful as you didn't provide well thought out reasons as to what in the game may either turn people off from liking it or be perfect for a game group.
@Prouncer007 that's fair. Yeah, it's becoming clear to us boss battlers just might not be our thing. I do recommend checking out Aeon Trespass Odyssey if you do like boss battlers, though. That's one that even i enjoyed!
@@NeverendingBoardgames I missed the kickstarter of this game which kind of sucks as it does look like something I would be interested in. I have not seen this in any stores so I will have to do some research on the best way to get a copy of this game.
@Prouncer007 take a look on gamefound if you mean Aeon Trespass. They've got a second printing live on there!
@@NeverendingBoardgames I did thanks and will do!
That intro though! 😂
Thanks for the honest feedback of your experience with the game. I really dig superhero games but many fall flat. Kind of sounds similar to Marvel Dagger which also wasn't very fun.
Very helpful to see a negative review for this game, as I have too many and I'm on the fence (which means I probably should not get it). I do like pandemic though, however I tend to play it solo so there is no quarterbacking. Since QB'ing is a big issue in this game as well, I see myself needing to solo it as well, but having to run *this* game running 3-4 characters by myself seems like it would get too fiddly/too much rules overhead.
@commandershepard9920 i agree. Honesty is best and that's very much how i felt about this game.
The first playthrough of the game is a bit rough. However, after unlocking all of the upgrade cards and augment cards and allies, the game is much funner. I would advise giving the game more of a chance and push through until the end, then edit all the character decks to be as efficient as possible with the upgrade cards, then ignore ability point limits, use all 3/4 character specific augments for every character plus 1-2 more of the generic ones for a total of 5 augments per hero. The characters feel much more thematic, powerful, and the game flows a lot smoother when played this way. Yeah, you're going to have to unlock all the envelopes first, but trust me, it's worth it in the end. Plus there's lots of fan made content that I created for this game on BGG as well, which is also worth a look. 🙂
@@Lonewolf8611 Thank you for the advice! Might give it a shot!
This game was a pleasant surprise. Very fun!
Agreed!
