Killin it guys, I played String Bass as a kid, then switched to Fiddle about 31, Buddy Spicher was a guy I listened to often and I was googling for some old hornpipes and then that led over here. Impressive, and very tasteful, would be at home in any Jazz club on the west coast. That Fiddle sounds incredibly dark yet full, hard to describe but that's a really good sound to my ear. Guessing you're not using Helicore strings, maybe Prim? I know the bow and Fiddle really have the most effect on tone, but they don't sound like Helicore's to my ear. I am just asking because I was thinking about switching to get more dark and gritty tone from my Fiddle. Maybe a heavier bow too, I have some Snakewood bows that weigh in about 70 grams, it can really change the tone a lot... It sounds great! Just curious is all, I'll see if I can find some interview or workshop where you talk about it.

Both of you: Congratulations on playing the song with rhythmic variation!!! The days of just making the changes with flurries of 8th notes is over. Joy to listen to. Trane gave us this harmonic approach to do precisely what you have done. I think he played straight 8s then to let us focus on this different approach to harmonic movement.

Boo put me onto Billy . He calls him Tatum with a fiddle . I agree . Also Trane with a fiddle . Endless chops and big ears . Coming here , I knew what I was going to get with Billy . The big surprise for me here was Jimmy Sullivan . Jimmy is smokin'. Drives hard on the bass and a great solo . Going back many winds , back when dinosaurs stilled roamed the Earth , I was a young rookie cop on the NYPD and went through the Academy and worked a good deal of my career with a hard as nails former Marine named Jimmy Sullivan. Coming to this video today , I was pretty convinced the bass player wouldn't be the Jimmy Sullivan I know . I assumed correctly . The Jimmy Sullivan here is a beast on bass. Vicious chops .
