Taking a Look at some Touch Screen Controlled DS Games
Today we take a look at Nintendo DS games that use the touch screen as a method of control. Buttons be gone, we're stylus-heads now! There's games from strategy RPGs like Fire Emblem and Pokémon Conquest, all the way to character action games in Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, and whatever genre you want to call Pokémon Ranger. Whichever genre that is, it's my absolute favourite genre ❤

this video is incredible I have been writing my own video on this topic and you just gave me the inspiration to make it. thank you so much
I unironically used the calculator in diamond and pearl for homework when I was a kid. Thanks pokemon. Fun fact I also learned to read from pokemon red when I was very young; pokemon "teaching youths how to dogfight and live life since 97"
NGL I would love a part 2 to this video talking about more touch screen based games on the DS
I really enjoyed Knights in the Nightmare on the DS which uses the touchscreen often. Interesting combination of RPG and...bullet hell?
I see you're a man of culture Bruce :D knights in the nightmare was brilliant
No TWEWY? I also just found out about the wizard of oz: beyond the yellow brick road. it controls like a track ball lol
I'll be honest, I totally forgot about TWEWY! I love that game so if I make another one of these eventually I'll give that pride of place in the video lol. I think I forgot about it because I played it on Switch😅 Which is funny because I kept saying to myself "This would've controlled so much better on the DS" in my head while playing it! Also yeah that Wizard of Oz RPG looks incredible, been on my to-play list for ages now
one of the underrated elements of ranger is interacting with a 2d pokemon overworld that actually has idle animations. it feels more alive.
good vid glad i clicked on it in my recommended
A bit sad to see a rather common catalogue. Weird to miss on TWEWY, it's probably the best game on the system that -needs- the entirety of the system to be what it is. Just in case someone is interested on more obscure or less talked stuff of the NDS: Heroes of mana and final fantasy 12 revenants of the wings (or something like that) are two RTS. As far as I know the only RTS outside PC (not counting weird experimental stuff like pikmin, overlord or tooth and tail). Guru guru nagetto is probably the most unknown game on the system, also a golf in which your ball is a hamster with super powers and can interact with you rival's hamsters, also does use the touchscreen in a very precise way. Phone games can't mimick this, as the precision needed for a lot of those is too high for what a phone screen and huge fingers can do.
Oh and Lock's quest: tower defense / horde defense / fortress buildong. Yeah I believe I would remember several million things as I keep remembering.
Thank you for this video :)
TH-cam algorithm has been COOKING for me lately. Tons of these sub-1000 sub channels with exactly the content I'm looking for.
Genuinely hope this blows up im only 3 minutes in and this feels on par with any decently sized channel that makes this kind of thing.
What about Mio? Does she have the same accent as Nia but less thick or is it a different one?
Mio's is more in line with a Cardiff accent, if my memory serves correctly. Great performance too, Mio's so good. There's a couple of other Welsh things in Xenoblade 3 too, I intend to make another video eventually about the Welsh stuff in there lol
@@Neostacia Ohh more welsh in 3 apart from Mio and Nia? I'm curious
@Neostacia Iirc the actress is from Newport. Now idk how much it changes between Cardiff and Newport but apparently they're not that far from each other (learned Welsh geography in the meantime lol. And holy shit there are A LOT of fields/woods/green, you've got roads passing through the end of nowhere).
Wonderful video! Always happy to see people passionate about Trails!
Shinji's death was the only thing i knew abt the game going in, yet it still hit me so hard i had to put the game down for days and he's my favorite character of all time. I knew his fate going in and it intrigued me to him, making me grow way too attached and being devastated when he died... After letting certain spoilers get to me with P5, i realized spoilers only have as much power as you give them, and they can even enhance ur experience instead! I was spoiled to hell and back for Royal, but just knowing vague bits doesn't compare to EXPERIENCING it. The third semester was one of my favorite moments in gaming I dont think Shinji's death and especially the Main Character's would have hit as hard if i wasn't spoiled... (after seeing how confused people were abt p3's ending, im glad i was spoiled lol) This game is worth playing even if you know about the ending. And life is worth living even if you know you're going to die...
For a while, I've just stopped caring about spoilers. I also care about the story, but for me the experience is less about the surprise and more about the way it's done. For example, if you told me a character dies, my first reaction isn't "I don't care about this character anymore" it's "I wonder how and why?" I understand my thoughts on spoilers are unpopular, so I try to avoid spoiling for other people.
If you wait 20 years to play a game expect to be spoiled. Idk what to say, it’s like those annoying people that complain that you spoiled some random show that came out in the mid 2000s. There is a reasonable expectation that after a certain amount of time everyone that is interested in a game or movie would have consumed them all ready.
The ending being spoiled honestly does help the themes of standing up even against certain death
It also creates some dramatic irony in many scenes where they talk about things that you know can never happen
If you're being spoiled this much on games you like you might need to be more proactive about the content you consume and the people you follow. If you're googling things or watching youtube videos about a gamer you've gotta assume you're risking spoilers. If you're active on a games subreddit it'll be more likely to get spoiled
Lol just accepted the spoilers when I played P3P and used guide at that point. Persona 3 is an old game and this is the internet. Can’t be helped.
I think of things like this: If I know points along the journey, I don't know what leads up to them. Spoilers don't bother me for that reason and because, if I know that's coming, I can look out for all the neat little foreshadowing.
Went to a Reddit for advice on social link and came out with three different spoilers, personally I hate spoilers but it was pretty unavoidable considering 3 is old and this just being a remake so I can’t be too mad I guess.
“december reveal” Blight.Jpeg
it was my first assumption that i had second guessed
Realest video ever. I got P3 and P5R spoiled for me, and I still want to play P4G despite knowing the final villain. I hate how much exposure to the series I got before even getting into it 😔 but at least I can fully immerse myself into Metaphor
I was playing after being spoiled on what happens to the MC and I was exactly the same way, I felt like rushing through because the last month or two of the game just totally drags on. There's no feeling of excitement as you get to the ending because you already know what's waiting for you, and the last month is easily the least eventful of the entire game as it's clearly there to give you extra time to grind levels/tartarus and max out social links before the end.
Lets talk about my p3p experience here i am using a link guide that doesn't have spoilers, I hear about FEMC's route who I'm going to play later because "I am bloke me want first experience to be the OG bloke route to experience the changes" But I did find out about a certain change and want to grab the artwork for a friend. here is the begginning of your P3P spoiler for the FEMC (which is "that spoiler" in the original) On the wiki because the FEMC is a lady it mentions "age", now imagine me about to hit the turning up point of the game prior to november 30th seeing "age at death". If you go there to this day it remains intact and no the male protagonist in that time did not have that distinction, he now does so as of checking. and then my file broke and I couldn't finish it :) if anyone who has edit rights to the Megami Tensei wiki, remove it completely.
Jumping into reload was the best decision for my first persona game. Even knowing the ending years ago, it still hurts a lot.
I kinda enjoy the order I played the games in. I started with p4g since it was on steam at the time, which allowed me to get a good grasp on all the game’s mechanics, played p5r after to develop new ways to play around with the mechanics in the game, then went into p3r to enjoy the beautiful story, even if it did have its flaws
I'm not going to watch the video or read comments yet, as I have yet to finish the game, my comment does have what I was spoiled tho. I was spoiled what happened to makoto at the end and what happens to the red haired strega character and, it really annoys me that I now know how it's going to end (this being my first persona game) but I'm also curious to see how the story ends up at that point
I'm glad I never gave a shit about spoilers, cause even in the few occasions I dln't just outright search what's gonna happen I get spoiled from the most unlikely sources anyway
The persona fandom has a massive spoiler issue
Hitler exists in Persona 2

@@gabagoo_grimbo >it would appear the spoiler didn't work >you decide to tell another spoiler Nanako's mom is dead!
Just beat the game today. I got spoiled that the ending made lots of people cry. No story details, absolutely zero context, you could say I was lucky but I’m so spoiler-sensitive that even knowing something that small bummed me out for a bit
Same thing happened to me man, I knew about 10/4, all the twists but not that (you know who) lived inside of the mc. And when the final cutscene played I cried myself to sleep man. Stuff like that hasn’t happened since I played NieR automata back in 2017, I never cry to video games only rarely movies or anime but. MAN this game is amazing.
I like spoilers I used to think that they sucked but after reading an article of statistics showing that most people who were spoiled on something tend to take more from the story then those who weren't they also enjoyed it more funny huh
It is pretty funny, because that study was terrible. They were using short stories in a testing setting, it wasn't an 100 hour JRPG where you spend so much time invested in the world and characters... For shows, movies, and games whether they're 3 hours or 100, the weight of your immersion, expectations and connection to it is going to be much higher than some random short story a guy in a labcoat is telling you about. Of course they'd enjoy it more, because they didn't care about it in the first place.
What I normally do, what I did mostly with P3Reload, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and SMTV and now SMTV Vengeance is mainly watch the official trailers and teaser about the games and at least one week prior to it's release avoid any social media or yt about the game. Since I don't use other social media, besides yt, it's easier for me, to do so. But since younger gens have a much tough time doing that, you can't complain about being spoiled, even you are or aren't looking for info for set games or media. And FFX, P3, P4 and even P5 are old games by now, so good luck in not being spoiled yet. Is like complaining about spoilers about Starwars first trilogy or Titanic's ending or any old content. You've to take those in account. 😅
The Persona and Pokémon titles are the games that I replay the most. And Wwe2k games too, mainly for the Universe mode. But still FFX, FFXVII, aswell P3 to 5, still hit hard, despite of already knowing the story. For me, more than going from point Alpha and Omega of the story, is the Journey in-between Alpha and Omega, that I enjoy relieving it. And one thing is watching someone's playtrough, the other is playing yourself. My first Persona, was P4G in 2013, after watching the infamous P5 chair teaser, I was curious about the Persona franchise. But until then, I mostly played FFs and Pokémon. So I needed an entry point, I watched some playtrough of P4G on yt, watched the P4 and P4G anime. I like it so much, that I finally decided to experience myself, I bought a Vita and P4G digitally in 2013. Later on, tried to play P3Fes on my Ps3, but it got the ylod, I end up, playing P3P on the Vita. Around the base P5 release time, I acquired a Ps4 and vanilla P5. So in my experience, already being spoiled about P3, P4, FFX and FFXVII story, didn't spoiled the fun or the Journey, only spoiled the the ending. Despite P3, P4 and P5 is hard not being spoiled already, it's 💩 for newcomers, that arent familiar with the franchise. But still, I still advice them, to experience themselves. But with the all internet, social media and meme culture, you aren't spoiled with anything, only if you live under a rock or alone in the woods without a Wi-Fi connection. 😅
sounds like you need to play games right away or stay off the internet til you do
My PS3 with FES on it shit the bed before i could beat it (still need to repair it) but I've always known about the ending. Its always made the game more impactful to me.
I don’t think Spoilers are bad. For example people who didn’t get any spoilers for P3 they might misunderstand the ending. Spoilers: I saw first playthrough were people didn’t understood that makoto just passed away.
I mean to be fair, he didn't die at the rooftop. he died after, but still...
I did a max social link run and I am dreading the end of the game because I am not interested in new game plus. I share the sentiment that this game is not as exciting if it was spoiled when you played it years ago. It was definitely a great remake.
Imagine if we thought the same way for movies. Nobody would rewatch Ghibli, or Disney, or Pixar, or LotR, or Star Wars, etc. Going into a game blind is cool when one can afford to jump into something interesting immediately, but otherwise? I know I want to play Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds and Pathologic-and Persona 3!-precisely because other people have spoiled me on how good they are and why. It would've been better to experience them blind... but I wouldn't have. I find out about cool games only from video essays, not reviews.
On the complete opposite end, I bought P3FES on PS3 in 2021 after beating P5, I was looking for P4G but couldn't find it, tried FES. I went in with literally no information, no expectations. Persona 3 FES turned into my favourite game of all time. I don't know how to feel about it now that Reload is out, so at this point I just default to saying P3 is my favourite game of all time minus Portable. It's a very special game close to my heart and the lack of expectations made it a wonderful surprise.
The twists in Persona 3 aren't about who was lost but how much you enjoyed your time with them regardless
Shinji’s death was spoiled for me, but that didn’t stop me from balling my eyes out. It certainly didn’t stop me from using him and spending time with him either.
If anything it made me use him more and hang out with him more in the dorm.
i choke up when he gets a posthumous line
It is ill advised to rely on surprises for storytelling. At the very least, not on it's own. The key is to invoke suspense. Even if some of the audience can see certain things well in advance, they'll still be moved by them regardless.
this is why i try to leave as much spoiler warnings as possible in my videos.
Knowing about the ending basically made the game be way more impactful for me. The theme of the game was always knocking on the back of my head, every time any character mentioned about what they wanted to do in the future I'd remember the phrase *"MEMENTO MORI, MEMENTO VIVERE."* I can't even describe the feeling I felt when the final scene hit, I literally just broke down till the credits stopped rolling. (And then I broke down again when the new title screen showed up) I used to say I didn't have a favorite game, but now I can gladly say I have one.
The video is well edited but I feel like you repeated yourself alot on how you don't like spoilers in media.
How do you get spoil on a games story, thats 20 years old? Beating margaret in 4 even spoiled it
Thing about p3's ending is that I see so many people miss out on the impact of the last scene, because they don't realize what's happening. To me, that is the real spoiler. The experience is better if you know it going in. I can't say the same for the rest of the game, but that's the one scene where I feel like the opposite is true.
EXACTLY, it didn't hit hard for me cuz I thought he was just taking a short nap. I feel like an idiot now
I wouldn't say it's better if you know it going in. I wasn't spoiled on it but I picked up on the way Aigis was phrasing certain things, and the context of Makoto getting unusually tired. The moment I saw "......" or "Close Eyes" it all came together and the tears started trickling, with a shred of denial It hit, incredibly hard for me. but I'm also the type to really care about the MC... one of my favorite moments was how genuinely excited and happy he was getting high quality headphones from fuuka. so that smile right at the end... it turned denial into acceptance, and my eyes into faucets.
Surprisingly, I never got spoiled for the MCs death, however when looking up whether or not to hang out with Ryoji one day, I got spoiled on a choice to “Kill or Spare” him. So the entire time, I was just waiting for the moment to show his true colors, to fight us as like the big bad, but then had my expectations do a 180 when he gave me the choice without a fight.
Kinda played into the game's themes pretty well to know your character will always die actually lol. The original was a lot more heavy on the "memento mori" thing than reload, but still
