Kaleidoscope Series 6: Chado with the Tankokai Seattle Association
The sixth in the series was the evening of exploring the art of Japanese tea ceremony with Keiko Tanaka, Chief Administrator of the Tankokai Seattle Association.
This Kaleidoscope webinar shows you how to enjoy the way of tea as a guest. Keiko Tanaka explains some highlights of Chado while her students demonstrate what to see in the tea house as well as how to have sweets, accept tea from the host, handle the tea bowl, drink tea, and view the tea bowl and other utensils.

Planting a Hiroshima peace tree

On October 5th, 2020, a Ginkgo biloba sapling was planted just outside the Seattle Japanese Garden. This very special tree was gifted to us by Green Legacy Hiroshima. Representatives of Japan and Seattle attended a very small ceremony to welcome the sapling into our garden.

    Hello Pete. Can you do a video or give suggestions on pruning Acer ginnala or Acer pseudosieboldianum?Living in zone 2b means Amur Maple or Acer pseudosieboldianum are two of the main trees we can grow for our Japanese inspired gardens.

    Do you realize your site still shows your closed till January 1st maybe you should revise your hours of operation for visitors or customers. I'm very excited to have found your business to learn more about camellias as well as your climate . I live in Arkansas which has some of the most fluctuating and harsh climates. I'm amazed sometimes that humans ever wanted to live here in the summer . Lol thank you. 😂

    I love the Japanese culture. I am a Wiccan Elder. I admire this as there are no other peaceful places than the tea ceremony. I believe the tea ceremony is more sacred than a marriage contract. domo arigato goziemashta

    Thank you so much for revealing this wonderful technique - what a beautiful idea - I've been trying to follow it and the only point I can't quite understand is the last part, where the ropes join and tie at the top - but I'll keep trying...
