We visited Île d'Orléans, an island to the north and east of Quebec City. There are so many places to visit on the island, but we only had time for a few.
First, we went to Ferme Jean-Pierre Plante to hand pick strawberries from the field. The organic strawberries were tasty. Everyone had a good time.
After that, we stopped by Tigidou to sample their many flavors of jams and jellies. We bought a strawberry and rhubarb jam to bring home.
Next, we went to a small roadside shack for a light lunch that consisted of popcorn chicken, ham & cheese panini, and steak & onion poutine. The poutine was great and exceeded my expectations. The gravy, cheese curds, meat and onions worked really well as toppings to the fries. None of the ingredients overpowered the others. Well balanced. Yummy and inexpensive snack.
Our last destination in Île d'Orléans was the observation tower at the north end of the island. We climbed up the tower and had a great view surrounding the island.
At this point, the kids were tired and didn't feel well, so we left the island and started heading back to the hotel. We did a quick visit to Montmorency Falls as it was on the way back. I was able to get up close to the waterfalls which was quite an amazing experience.
After resting at the hotel, we went to dinner at Bistro La Cohue, a popular french-inspired bistro that served up some delicious duck, quail, foie gras, steak, and especially the fried crepe dessert with the maple butter sauce.
