On my way up Mt Stuart, one of my party took his boots off while we ate lunch a short distance away. To his horror, a marmot sneaked up to his boots and started chewing on them, perhaps for the accumulated salt from miles of sweat. Like goats, they are everywhere above the tree line in the North Cascades.

I have all three. I use my reactor for backpacking anything more than one night. It’s just a beast and it’s super efficient. A single small fuel canister gets me three meals a day for over a week. It’s barely over a pound and the stove and small can fits perfectly in the one liter pot.

Typical amateur talk! It's not "eye-so"; but "eye-Ed's-oh"; which stands for International Standards Organization; the outfit which replaced the "American Standards Organization" (ASA); the outfit which determined film sensitivity (speed); along with DIN in Germany and a few other countries, which produced film stock; such as Britain (Ilford) and Japan (Fuji). You can trust me; I have used film, from ASA 8 to ASA 1200, before the advent of ISO; and cut my (photographic) teeth, using the Speed Graphic (4x5) camera in the military, before the advent of 35mm and 6x6 (2 I/4 x21/4); we used Super XX (ASA 200), and later Tri-X (ASA 400), in those old press cameras (which handled as well as a 35mm, and a digital, today); with a bit of experience. I also transitioned from flashbulbs ( #22, #11, #5 and 5B), to electronic flash, back in the early 60s, and am now almost entirely digital. And YES, I own (and use) a D3300; among other Nikon gear ; and operated cameras from the Minox, to 5x7 Burke and James studio camera; including Hasselblad and 6x7 Pentax. You could call me: "qualified" to post the above.

Also, what time of year is best for this summit? I've heard that early in the season is best so there's less scree, so like May or June maybe? Thanks!

MSR/Cascade Designs used to be good. Now they suck. Some of their stoves actually had aluminum threads to connect to a fuel canister! Al is a soft metal and won't last. Only an idiot or a con man would use aluminum threads. I had one of their Hubba tents and a pole snapped in the middle of the night on the first week and ripped a large hole in the rainfly. No wind or anything. I was on the AT and was a week away from an outfitter to get a new tent. On another Hubba, I used it for a month with good luck. Next season the rainfly was more like a screen, it didn't even try to repel water. MSR said that their rainflys are "hydrophobic", ie the waterproofing does not like moisture and will degrade in its presence. Where i lived we only got 8 inches of rain a year. Humidity wasn't a storage issue. I have had three of their air mattresses. They don't last. One i bought in Tuscon, az on a bike tour. In less than a week it had delaminated, and wouldn't hold air. It was another week before I got to an outfitter. I also have one of their white gas stoves. It works well, but check out the price of the repair kit for the stove. I think that i paid $40 for a few o-rings and a wick. Who am I? I have a PhD in geophysics. I have covered over 26,000 miles on thru hikes, and over 75,000 on bicycle tours. I will never buy anything from MSR/Cascade Designs again.

Although I am four years late, I did enjoy this video. It is beyond me why guys wear their hats backwards. No, you do not look cool, it makes one appear as "not-right-bright backwoods Bubba guy on Deliverance." Do you realize it leaves a silly half-moon suntan on your forehead, and appears when not wearing a hat as well? Thus, not knowing the bill of their hat belongs in the front protecting their eyes is not cool. Heck, a while back I saw a husband and wife with their hats backwards holding their hands over their eyes blocking the sun, D'oh. Have backwards wearing hat folks lost all sense of reality?

I found this lens to be a total disappointment. If it's not sharp at 300mm then what good is it for wildlife photography? Up against the older 70-300mm G lens with the plastic mount the VR lens is awful. Even my old Tamron model 372D is sharper at 300mm. This lens is of no use to me at all.

THANK YOU! EASY to understand, EASY to follow. I have had the D3300 for a year and really need more understanding, especially with flash photography. Lighting seems to be an issue, indoors, with aux flash, aimed at ceiling, still has too much light. Using camera flash, can have same effect. This is where I have most of the issues which prevent clear and memorable photos. You might even have such a video. I will subscribe and follow and look for appropriate videos you have created. Thanks again!! Appreciated.
