@@sorinafi The name Marché des Enfants Rouges comes from the history of the location. In the 17th century, there was an orphanage on this site called the Hospice des Enfants-Rouges. The children there wore red uniforms, symbolizing Christian charity (red being associated with compassion and sacrifice). The market, founded in 1615 and now the oldest in Paris, retained this name in memory of the orphanage. Many tourists mistakenly think the market sells items related to children or the color red due to its name. Some have even asked vendors where they can buy “red children’s toys”.
