I know this is much later, but could the "buzz" you hear be the CTCSS on the signal? Also known as "PL", (Motorola's Private Line), "CG" (GE's Channel Guard) or many other custom names. But CTCSS is common worldwide, and would sound like a low-frequency buzz if the radio does not filter it out.
Here you have an opportunity to discuss the features and functions of this unit and you waste the moment disliking scratches . Good thing you are a licensed operator, saves you from being called a moron !
I,ve got one of these ,works just fine one small tip if you take off the top lid you will see on the front panel top centre two small potentiometers with plastic adjusters, tune into a strong f.m broadcast station like radio 1 and noting their positions give a small blast of "servisol" and give them a tweak you will see that these control the signal meter, you may find a "peak" to work to, best 73,s....Tim...M0TJP..
Hi!! I like that radio and I'm thinking about buying one... Would you give me your opinion about it? How do you like it? Cheers and Happy Holidays! 73s from KJ4BGW
Finally a radio that is UGLIER than a Ten Tec & I never thought it would be possible. It's like the Old saying,I ain't driving no UGLY TRUCK.I'm not owning an UGLY RADIO no matter what brand or model there is No Excuse for that.I think I may have damaged my Eyes so that's not good. {:>(
Does Kenwood make these anymore? I was looking at getting a 590 SG especially as I am blind and the voice guide works very well if I can find one how is this radio for embedded speech?
What are like to live with? Are they easy on the ears? There are radios that are good at receiving buy the audio coming out of them would cut you in two. Does the widebanding cut the sensitivity or affect the ability to receive weak stations? Thanks.
I've got the same radio but I don't have all of the other bits for the Yaesu FT-707 but it's a fantastic radio and I've had loads of contacts on the 40 meters and the 20 meters and the 17 meters all with my Commet Vertical antenna and I've got a G5RV Flexiweve Delux antenna in a inverted V in my back garden and that also works extremely well on all of the HF bands and I've had about 200 contacts these past few weeks so it's been great fun really on the HF bands. Stephen M3SNV 73's.
I've got the same radio the Yaesu FT-707 is a fantastic radio and I use a vertical with my radio and it works really well on all of the HF bands and I have made loads of new contacts around the UK Scotland Wales and Ireland and Northern Ireland as well on the 40 meters when it was open last week and it was absolutely brilliant speaking to new people on the amateur radio but they are a fantastic radio and they do work really well and this is the 2nd FT-707 that I've had and I brought the first one off yourself and I think that I paid you £180 in postal orders and you sent me the radio and then it reached me in about 2 days later and I haven't got the FT-707 what you sold me I left it in my ex girlfriends house when we split up back in 2010 so it is very sad that I had to leave it behind but there's nothing I can do about it really now can I?. Anyway you take care and I hope to speak to you soon OK cheers. Stephen M3SNV 73's.
Nice rig. Almost got one after my 6300 crapped out. Decided to go with the 101mp. Have to say I am very impressed with the Yaesu. I thought I may not like it because I’ve used flex for so long. But the transition has been pretty easy. Given the issues that come along with Flex I will stay with the Yaesu. Great video. Thanks for sharing. 73 AA1US .
Thanks for your message - On the lower bands 160-80-40 I use a Full-Size Carolina Wyndom at 70ft high and on the HF band an Optibeam. Also on 80-40 I have 4 square phased arrays - regards Dave
My 847 shows on watt meter that the 70cm band it tx power is weak on lower end of band 432.100 and its full power output on upper portion band , around 449.000..... any idea what the problem is ?
Hi Frank Thanks for your message - it could be any number of things and not something that I can put an answer to without having it on the bench and testing - suggest you get Geoff at Castle Electronics to have a look at it for you - best regards Dave
