Slackdhu via Black Craig | Campsie Fells |
This wee dauner sees me up Slackdhu in the Campsie Fells via an escarpment called Black Craig.
The Campsie Fells and Kilsyth Hills are my local hills and where I have wandered since childhood. Often overlooked by the hoards of walkers from Greater Glasgow and the surrounding areas, for their grand neighbours around the Trossachs and Arrochar Alps. This group of hills have some fabulous walking, especially if you only have a few hours.
These hills are a wee Jewel in the Crown of the Central Belt, and well woth giving them some of your time.

This was an outing, and my first to the Monadhliath Mountains, for a wee dauner up Geal Charn. It turned out, that this wouldn't be the easy we ramble I thought it would be, self inflicted, may I add. I absolutely destroyed my heals on this one. New boots and a bad decision on taping, where I used Compeed rather than Zinc Oxide tape. Let's just say, lesson learned. As well as a walk, you'll see...
Beinn an Lochain | The Original Pretender - A One Time Munro |

Once a Munro, No Longer a Munro! An original of Sir Hugh Munro's Table, this wee beauty actually falls well short of it's illustrious sidekicks. However, this hill punches up there with the best of them. Beinn an Lochain, is a short, sharp, ass kicker of hill with some stunning surroundings. Well worth a wee dauner, I'm sure I'll be back again. Hopefully for some views from the summit. Music Dr...

This walk sees me taking on the five Munro's of the White Mounth Circuit in a clockwise direction. These Munro's are Broad Cairn, Cairn Bannoch, Càrn an t-Sagairt Mòr, Càrn a' Choire Bhòidheach and finally the bonnie Lochnagar made famous by George Gordon, Lord Byron in his poem Lachin Y Gair (Dark Lochnagar). Ben Chonzie. So often I've heard, let's say, not so enthusiastic things about this hill. The thing is, I don't think you get bad hills, or bad Munros. Yes some are harder than others, some more picturesque. However, the truth is, they all have something. You just need to be open minded. The walk in from Loch Turret carpark is very picturesque. It has a good track most of the way, before a sligh...

This was a wee trip across the border to meet up with Paul and Barry. Less than 2 hours of heading South I was in Lake District., the project, to tackle Blencathra's Sharp Edge. Having previously met the lads earlier in the year when we ended up reneging on Sharp Edge due to weather, this was a second attempt on a fine Spring day. A disappointing night for photography, opened up a superb opportunity to scratch a wee itch I've had for a while. Since stumbling across a video of @ScotlandsMountains camping on the minor top of Stob Beinn a'Chrùlaiste, and another where he tackled a Scramble on Beinn a'Chrùlaiste called 'The Pink Rib' with his son, I have had the notion to tackle this route myself. Tam, I honestly got so much out of this walk. I'd say it be a better 2 full days , rather than my rushed first day and long second day. Or even 3 if you fancy detouring and taking in one or two tops, Bynack More and Carn a Mhaim are nice outliers that are not too far of the main walk, as is Beinn Mheadoin and Derry Cairngorm, both of these a wee bit more of an effort than the first two though. Had a wee look at some of your vids there and didn't see much of the Gorms so if I'm telling a fox how to suck eggs, my apologies. Thanks again for having a wee peek at the vids. Cheers Drew

The Kilsyth Hills were my playground as a kid, in fact they still are. lol I truly believe the Campsie's are overlooked, they are so handy, especially if you only have a wee half day. Maybe bump into on them sometime. Thanks for the s'scribe, reciprocated 👍........Drew

    Great video man, I've been doing the campsies for a few weeks now. I did earls seat a couple weeks back and I took the left most road the whole way round. Wondering if I hit slackdhu while I was there but it was so cloudy it was purely endurance. Next plans are for Dumgoyne and leckett hill. Did Meikle Bin on Saturday there it was excellent!

    • @the_middle_corner
      @the_middle_corner หลายเดือนก่อน

      @AlofD thanks. The Meikle Bin is a great walk, I have to admit, going from Kilsyth/Queenzieburn is my favourite route, a bit more of a walk. Much better though than Todholes....one very mucky section as you drop through the forest though. If you leave from the Crow Road carpark, Cort-ma Law / Lecket Hill makes a good circular walk. Enjoy.....Drew

      Hey Rich. What can I say, bad idea using the compeed, I'll be sticking to Zinc Oxide in the future. 😂 As for the soil sampling, it is quite interesting, to be honest, I think they've already had a few surprises. The added bonus was that it forced my hands into walking hills I had been wanting to do but kept putting them off.

We had visited Kilmory Knap Chapel, Kilmartin Glen and we had stood in the footprint of the Kings of Dàl Riata at Dunnad. I'm fortunate enough to make memories like this with my father. Here's to many more of them.
