I don’t think the tight focused are necessary better than the more open designs Sure the tighter design allows for more polish and tightly designed challenges but that focus on tight design also limits creativity and player expression The open level design makes up for its lack of tightly designed challenges with its depth and player freedom Both approaches to level design are completely valid it’s more of a matter of preference personally the more open level design is what appeals to me more as I feel like that style of game design takes the most advantage of Sonic’s unique appeal The tighter level design in sa2 often makes me feel like I’m trapped on a roller coaster on a set track The open level design in games like sa1 and frontiers makes me FEEL like Sonic (cliche I know) like a fast speedy adventure following my heart wherever it takes me

I would have preferred if it used a similar mindset to arceus. Different zones but you can freely roam around it. Like umurangi and the good life, as a free roaming photography game with camera based upgrades, but the pokemon attack you. Itd be so cool, you could use yourself bait and lure pokemon towards other mons to have them battle. Could have a psuedo-friendship meter with others befriending them over time enouraging you to replay levels to build upon it by feeding them and playing with them to get dynamic poses. Could even bring back the evolution mechanic by luring magnetons to certain electric rocks, or like the first game a slowpoke to a cluster of shellders, etc. I'd add a time limit intially like 20 mins to begin with but it expands the more 'experience' you earn to the point where you lose the time limit completely and can freely take as much time as you want.

New Pokémon Snap had 2-3 big issues for me: not enough level variety (typical biomes, despite all the weird areas the franchise has added in the years), the lack of evolutions, and there’s simply too much content. I’m sure most won’t be as exhaustive as me, but you have to play each level at least 20-30 times to get or discover certain poses. Sometimes I thought I found them all, and then on that 30th attempt I found something else. And there’s 3 levels and also night levels. And you know what? Even after doing that with every level… I was still missing a TON of poses (evidenced by all the requests). The game is fun, but it also felt like a chore, and that if you didn’t play so thoroughly, that you’d be missing 90% of the game. I didn’t even touch the DLC because I felt you had to be obsessive to discover a fair amount, and I was worn down by that point. I understand they wanted to make sure it had enough content, but it’s too much. And it’s funny when I saw people saying it’s short… they have no clue how much is actually in there because they only replayed a level 2-3 times just to unlock the next research level (maybe 5-6). The funny thing about research levels, is that I didn’t want to move on until I exhausted one, so I could make a note in my mind, because it would be easy to forget if you had to go back and to which level. So for me they were unlocking way before I was ready to move on, lol. As for evolutions… There are good moments in the game, but I don’t think those hit as high as the evolutions in 64. And even if they want to adhere to authentic evolution methods, there’s plenty of unconventional ones they could’ve added. It may be less exciting because in 64 they were unrelated to the methods in-game (save for Slowpoke), so they really were a surprise, but it would still go a long way. And you could argue Magikarp going up the waterfall is authentic to its Pokédex entry, so there’s another angle of evolutions they could’ve used. Also, glowing Pokémon aren’t all that interesting, and it wasn’t clear where (outside lumina flowers) where you’re supposed to use them. Because you can use them in random moments and discover something, but you wouldn’t think that intuitively. Because there’s no real-world parallel. You might think of using it like a flashlight, but that’s not really the case, and that’s only for nighttime levels anyway.

The grind for research levels and the lack of ability to choose multiple pictures of Pokemon for each category really hampered my motivation for finishing the sequel and makes the story a slog to go through. There were many times I would replay a level because the hints alluded to me missing something but are so vague that I have no idea what I'm missing to trigger a Pokemon appearance or event. This was one of my most anticipated games for years and it's kinda disappointing with the amount of padding there is. I think the amount of content that we get would probably be perfect if we got rid of the lvl 1 research levels. Another thing that makes me so fond of the original is the music. The arcadey feel to it (which I feel is present in a lot of N64 spin-offs) really adds a cozy vibe to it all and ties the package together which actually makes me want to replay the levels. The music in the sequel is fine on its own but because the music gives off more of a "grand experience" vibe, it ends up becoming background noise for me and makes the overall experience less memorable even after having to replay the levels many times.

Nice. I was able to play through HL2 originally on PC but I grabbed this just as soon as it hit the Xbox. Believe it or not, it performed shockingly close to how most PC's were able to handle HL2 at the time. It wasn't until the Orange Box came out that I was finally able to play this game with a stable framerate. I really wish we had gotten a frame-rate bump on the Orange box through backwards compatibility. But since it's de-listed now, that means we're probably getting remasters for the modern systems. At least, I hope that's what that means.

But man did I love Pokémon Snap when I was younger, I remember my friends and I sat together and took turns to take the perfect pictures. I love the original game, and I do also love New Pokemon Snap, but I do think it not coming out for the WiiU was a missed opprotunity as the hardware was perfect for it. The first game felt more fast an chaotic. The new game is bigger and more relaxed, but it does make things slow for completionists. Both had thier share of obtuse puzzles but it's all fun. I appreciated that I could have multiple photos of one Pokemon so you can show them off in different scenarios, but the system had technical flaws at times for what counts as what rank of pose.

You described the mindset I found myself in exactly. There was seemingly less interaction. The Star system restricted any potential new gains if I'm just looking to grind Research Level Points to level up for *maybe* new features to unlock, or something new to happen, or even a new area which would be nice but likely with the same restrictions. If there was some interaction I was missing I didn't want to look it up because to me based on the first game this series and its joy is based on discovery. In the original I was in the first two areas for a while and triggering that particular Electrode quite literally opened up a new world for me. Looking back I think that Electrode leading to discovering a new area *Awakened* a deep love of exploration for me that has persisted in some of the things I value in games to this day. This game also came out at a time where Pokemon's graphics were its biggest point of contention. This prefaced the future with the Pokemon textures in Paldea looking about as good as this game! This game has since been on break for me since shortly after release. You've since shown what's still out there. As you put it and as I would phrase it, something closer to the base game of the original Snap most of us seek is simply something that has to be earned up to in Level 3! A worthy cause to unlock for sure. Thank you for showing me. I may very well be the exact person this video was meant for in your sentiments. If you read all this. Hello! I've been a big fan of your Channel since I "discovered" your Pokemon Colosseum video. I also enjoyed the video of Nintendo Ads and hope you do more. There was a game on the DS that was based on The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe that came out around the time the movie came out. It is surprisingly fun to play! You run around playing as the four siblings and you can meet and befriend all kinds of talking animals and mythical creatures. The combat was decent and I have enjoyed playing through it a few times over the years. I will say the ending portion feels a little underwhelming, but I’m not sure what they would have done otherwise tbh. They did do a lot to make sure you get a chance to focus on playing with all the kids instead of not letting the girls fight like in the book 😂

I really like the way Sonic CD approached developing a Sonic game. It was a platformer at heart, and the levels were huge, very vertical, and densely packed obstacle courses, with the main gimmick being Sonic ability to build up and competently utilise his speed to reach new heights. That radical 90s Tony Hawk edge is absolutely a defining trait of the 3D games, and Sonic Dream Team already slightly utilises halfpipe tricks, although it’s not the main focus for platforming. On that, I’d love a game that combines skateboard stunts with parkour precision platforming. Personally, I *do* want a huge world to explore, *but* I want it to be more densely packed so you can take it at your own pace, freerunning and doing simple parkour when you just want to explore a local area, while always being able to build enough speed to travel the entire place quickly or even soar over large sections, mid-air tricks keeping you busy of course.
