    Mine is leaking water ( fresh water not salt) 350 mag fuel pressure is good. Where do they usually leak from? Hoses, top cap seal etc…

    @4:25 sorry but you lost me at "base it on your best guess" hint; the part number for the tool you need is in the service manual. Fuel pressure isn't something to guess at.

    I need help with my 2013 5.7 Volvo Penta last year was out in the water running roughly 4000 RPM and came to a complete stop engine turned off tried to turn it on it wouldn’t start again had to get towed I’ve replaced spark plugs, MAP sensor, Knock Sensor, Throttle Control Module, Throttle Body, Ignition Coil, Battery and still can’t get the boat to turn back on! Would you have an idea of what I could be over looking

      You gotta know the fuel pressure. I have seen a blocked pressure regulator screen cause restriction in fuel return side, which caused HIGH fuel pressure, which also prevents it from starting. This was a mercruiser, though. Don't give up.

    Good diagnostics I came to the same conclusions. This is now my boat, purchased last January in this broken state. It’s now running well. Required a new long block i installed on starboard, one new injector on starboard it was leaking very badly hence that moisture you saw. It also needed a new fuel pump. On port it needed a new fuel pump and 110 gallons of phase seperated ethanol gasoline removed at substanial cost to dispose. All new fuel filters top and bottom and i suspect these will need changing monthly. Oh port engine also had a intermittent ignition control relay that made the fuel pump often not work even at key on 2 seconds

      If it is quick and dirty, it takes 24-30 hours of total time from start to finish plus machine shop cost. Our shop rate is 150 per hour. That rough cost is around 5k quick. If you do other things like clean the intake, repaint the block, be extremely meticulous and replace other parts on the way you are looking about 7-9K. This customer spent a litte less than 4 because he DIY’d a lot of it. Cleaned the block himself, replaced a bunch of stuff himself, repainted everything himself. I just re-assembled it.

    I have a 2006 Volvo penta 5.7 Gi with a fuel issue. Started by replacing fuel pump due to paint chips in fuel. After that boat ran but dumped fuel in exhaust. Replaced the pressure regulator, set the injectors out to be rebuilt, reinstalled. Now the boat runs good, idles at about 8, accelerated good, ect…but still have raw fuel in exhaust. ?????

    On the flip side. I have a Volvo penta 5.0 legacy on a 95 fourwinns. Sometimes engine breaker trips and I have to open engine compartment to reset the bkr. Any ideas? Could it be just a fualty bkr? But then it happens randomly and only when I'm close to shore. Someone said I should disconnect the depth finder and check if it happens again, others suggested to rewire the bkr because there might be an overload somewhere. Mmmm

    I'm guessing if the valve line is not blocked then the next thing would be to look at the fuel reg inside the TBI. I believe they are a Rochester?

    That was a video that just may solve my issue. I have the exact same motor. I was not sure whether the injectors were meant to spray whilst starting. Mine are like yours. I know the low- and high-pressure pumps are good and the filter as replaced the lot, low pressure has a Shrader valve and as you mentioned there is none off the high-pressure side as there is no fuel rail. I installed a t-piece Shrader valve in the line from high pressure pump to TBI. Was just about to pull the TBI off but now i thing i need to look at the anti-syphon valve. Motor used to start for a little bit then idle up and die. Now it barley starts.

      that is the IAC valve, I had to replace it and then do a Reset on my TechMate computer. Pulls a good 20 vacuum after setting timing to 10 degrees

      it was old fuel. No one in Long Beach would sell me aviation fuel. I filled the tank with StarTron fuel tank cleaner, let it soak for 2 weeks, came back and drained it all out and refilled with Premium Gas. The old fuel made a mess of the whole fuel system, not to mention I had to source new metal fuel lines since the previous owner replaced with rubber hoses and took away the schrader valve I needed to measure fuel pressure.

    I’ve had 3 motors not run in the past year or so due to bad anti siphon valves. $10 part. Needed a new one on a 50 Yamaha outboard, my Kohler Generator and a 150hp Yamaha on a hurricane boat.

In your opinion, what are some things to keep an eye on with these 5.7GXi engines from Volvo Penta? I’m aware of the whining fuel pump issues, but other than that these seem like reliable engines.       Other things to look out for are engine harnesses. they are not really "Marine Grade" on older volvo engines and the steering actuators are notorious for failing out of the blue as well. Fuel modules have issues as well with paint delamination causing rough running and poor performance.

      Yes, I had to do a valve job. The previous owner let the original set of manifolds leak into the engine and only did valves on one cylinder head. I always do both heads if I am that far in to an engine. I only found this out due to it having two different head gaskets on the engine. One sierra and a factory GM head gasket.

    My 3.5 Westerbeke is giving me a “check engine” code on the controller and it won’t start until I reset the 12volt breaker on the controller. It then runs fine. I’m thinking bad k1 relay?

      If you have a static check engine light, then that means the engine has a static code, either a sensor or emissions problem. on 3.5's it can be a lot of different sensors, usually throttle body, intake temp or coolant temp sensors

      The engine could not move the throttle body well, it was sticky. I also cleaned the throttle body and that helped show the symptoms I was experiencing. The fuel pump is actuated with a 20 second time delay relay activated by oil pressure, but once the 20 seconds were up, it shut the fuel pumps off.

    I don’t recommend using the new screws on the cap because you can crack the housing because of the locktite they apply to them I’ve seen it happen many times on these GM flat cap distributors.
