How I’m arting with Tim Holtz this Christmas
I love this little shortcut for finishing my paper ephemera art, using Tim Holtz stickers instead of hunting and clipping the words myself. Get a close look at some new holiday items that you can make yourself in my studio, or assemble kits to take home and make with a group of friends or your favorite little family members. ‘Wildflower’ Disappearing Hourglass easy quilt top assembly.

I assembled this quilt for my quilting club’s annual challenge. Members of our club live in Missouri and Iowa. We meet up once a year to share our challenge quilts and go quilt shop hoppin’ together. This year’s challenge was to do a two-fabric quilt. I chose Missouri Star Quilt Company’s Disappearing Hourglass 2 pattern, and purchased the fabric to make the quilt in two different color schemes...

A gallery slideshow of my art, made on demand in Fall 2022. These photos were all taken during Silver Dollar City's Harvest Festival in Branson, Missouri, where I worked as a craftsman for 2 months this fall. I used my plasma cutter to turn trash into treasure for my customers. They chose their metal item from my junk stash and asked me to cut their design in the metal. I use a Hypertherm Power...

Beautiful work
Thank you for all the great ideas I love your work!

This is so cool. I have been meaning to buy a plasma cutter for over a year now. I have my excuse to now :)
Awesome! Follow me on social media and you’ll see a lot more cool stuff I make!
Thank you for all the videos with information and inspiration!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching😃
I've been a steel fabricator for over 50 years. I have experience with all the tools. Just don't have your eye/hand coordination. Very nice job!
Thank you so much! 10 years so far here…I still get better every year that passes!
Very nice
Can’t see much ? Like content …what’s best brand plasma cutter ? China ones are crap .
Why don't you incorporate the art work into the blade. Just saying
Great , now what fun stuff can you do with the handles?
I saw a charcuterie tray the other day that had a saw handle attached to each end. It was super cute!
I always watch for your channel
Thanks Richard…I’ve been MIA for a bit, but am trying to get things lined out so that when I’m working in the metal shop I’m Live on all available channels for a little while several times a week. How did today’s vid play on your end? Was the background music too loud or weird?🤣 Were there any interruptions? Facebook deleted like 14 minutes of my stream bc of copyright issue…not sure why, maybe that background music. Thanks for hollering!
Put eyes on the maple leaf and turn it into a frog
Thanks for the video! I just discovered your channel today -- very interesting -- and we like your metalwork for sure. Please, WHAT is that welder thingie you are using to tack your letters to the panel??? Is it just your plazma cutter and making attachment holes or does it somehow fuse everything together (I mean, you held up the finished sign and it didn't yield to gravity)? Sorry for all the ?'s. The sign is very cool.
AT 20:49 I was horrified to see you cutting up a go kart or mini bike centrifugal clutch. Those were hard to come by when I was a kid, and an absolute necessity if you wanted to build a go kart. Still, thanks for the good information in this video.

Gracias Linda, muy inspirador.
Very good video
Where did you get your metal baskets that you work on? Sorry for all of the questions, so excited to get started!
They’re repurposed old freezer baskets. I tend to use whatever comes along haha. A piece of expanded metal works well too. It’s just good to have a few inches of clearance between the table and the work.
Do you ever have to worry about the sharp edges of your cutouts at the shop? Have any of your customers cut themselves??
Not really, most people are smart enough to watch their fingers, but I have started using my mig welder to attach a “cuff” to the outside. The cuff is 2-3” wide and makes the sign itself sit away from the wall. It’s kindof like framing it with metal.
@@junkyardfarmgirl Thank you SO much for answering! I’ve been thoroughly enjoying your videos - you are so talented! I LOVE repurposing old rusty stuff - I took a welding found object workshop and just got a plasma cutter - been collecting fun stuff from the metal bin at our dump (aka treasure shop) and I’m ready to get started! Wish I lived nearby to see your shop! Keep the videos coming! 🥰
Loving your videos!! Can you explain how you attached the She Shed piece to the quilted back piece without cutting holes??
Hi there Christine! Thanks so much. I did make a tiny hole, but it’s hardly noticeable. I press the two layers of metal together with the tip, and I pull the trigger while applying pressure for just a few seconds. It’s just enough heat and pressure to melt the layers together.
What a wonderful and happy video, thank you.
The large cast iron stars with the hole in the middle is actually a functional architectural piece. It works like a washer on the outside with along bolt and a nut that spans the building to keep the brick walls from falling down during construction once the building is complete and everything is tied together then they become decorative.
It looks like you are making some cool stuff! Thanks for the demo of using your template. I just ordered a plasma cutter and I am looking forward to making some things. Just FYI, those stars on old buildings were not just for decoration. They were used on masonry buildings to help hold the walls in place. Imagine a star on each side of the building, with a steel rod running through the building attached to the center hole of each star. They were supposed to help prevent the masonry walls from falling away from the building.
These are wicked cool. Maybe leave more of an outer edge and keep the saw handle attached.?
I use the handles to make owl sculptures, so I do not leave them attached.😀
@@junkyardfarmgirl oh cool what do those look like?
@@shannonfinnessy533 maybe I should do a recap of that project. It’s that time of year after all…everything trees!
@@junkyardfarmgirl I’d love it! How long have you been plasma cutting? I just started and only have a couple months under my belt. I am amazed by your ability to one hand cut! I have been working with my neighbor in his shop but they leave for the winter so I’m anxiously awaiting spring to get back at it! I have so many ideas.
@@shannonfinnessy533 I’ve been at it for 8 years. I am able to help others skip a lot of the trial and error that I encountered by giving tips on how to cut smoothly. It seems I have a different little technique for each medium, depending on the thickness and how rusty it is. I’m able to make it easier for my followers by showing them the medium with its particular technique. Lately I’ve been cutting script font into sheets of ceiling tin. I’m working on a product for people like you who love plasma cutting and want to advance their skills with the craft.
Thanks JYFG I am looking for some ideas to stencil onto my trailer. Good job.
You say you hold workshops where are you located I am just outside of Saint Louis Missouri
Hi Carl! I’m on the other side of the state, just north of Joplin. However, I travel to teach my workshops! It’s $250 (fuel and one night lodging) to book me for a distance such as STL. I bring my generator, plasma cutter, welder if needed, and all the materials we need for the workshop. There is a per person cost as well, depending on what project you want. So gather up some friends and learn together! For luminaries, it’s $60/person. You get to make 3 luminaries; more, if you bring your own metal container to cut. For a metal sign workshop, it’s $60/person, and you get a practice sheet, two template cutouts (I have lots of templates for you to follow with the cutter, and I can make templates for you on the spot; I draw it right there on a heavier sheet of metal and cut it out for you to use as a template), and your final project, a layered metal sign. If you have a different project in mind, by all means, ask me! I’ll be adding more workshops to the website soon. I have two traveling workshops on the schedule for fall so far. One in Iowa and one in central KS.😃😎 Check out my website, junkyardfarmgirl.com, in the Metal Workshops tab in the main menu…there’s a short video at the top of each workshop…one is a luminary and the other is a She Shed sign. Thanks for inquiring, Carl. email me at junkshed@junkyard Farmgirl.com if you’d like to discuss booking dates.
love this
Just a friendly suggestion, you should really keep a hammer on hand for breaking apart your cut pieces. If you keep using the torch head you will soon find out how expensive they are to replace. Just saying. Nice work!
Thanks, it’s a dirty habit I know.
I’ve never seen a plasma cutter that you don’t use a compressor, can It weld mig flux core also., great ideas Love plasma Art.
I use it to weld thin stuff together by pressing the layers with the tip and giving it a short burn. It has an internal air compressor, so it’s really quiet to run!
Just curious what type of plasma cutter do you use. Nice work
It’s a Hypertherm Powermax 30 Air😃
Love it of course!!
Love this!!!
very cool indeed
I love it!!

Cool!!
Oh this is so cool! Thanks for sharing! I just bought a plasma cutter and am looking for ideas. Going to go look for some old saws!🤣🤣👍😃
Turn the wooden handles into little owl sculptures by adding old metal jar lids, little old watch faces and steampunk parts. The horns on the handle look like owl horns!
@@junkyardfarmgirl oh wow great ideas! Thank you! I look forward to watching your other videos. Subscribed today. :)
@@jonkwilloughby thanks for following!
Great idea. Looks like your enjoying the cut time. I love plasma cutting. Some of those saws are valuable i believe
I get them for a dollar or two each, sell the tree cutouts for $7 each, then turn the wooden handles into owls and sell them for $15. They aren’t valuable until I turn them into something else.
@@junkyardfarmgirl keep up the Good work. 🙂
Well some of them older saws are saut after and if you were to polish the blade back and sharpen it a little with a file you'd be surprised. Some of those saws go for 40 to 50 dollars each. But whatever
:) That's cool, is it possible to make those cuts/faces like that with a good jigsaw and a metal bit? Plasma cutter is out of reach for me... thanks!
It’s worth a try!
good job , BUT I'm Not sure why when you cut them you didn't leave the saw handles on them??? instead of 3-7 bucks you could have sold them for 15-30$$$ maybe more. the hand saw trees are very popular and lucrative.... i tried to attach a picture but couldn't.
Actually, they don’t sell at my studio or at shows for more than $4 each. I sell the trees for $7 each, then I turn the wooden handle into an owl and sell for $15. Thanks for the unsolicited advice. You do you babe.
Great job you are a true maker . Keep make'n.
Cool stuff
Hi, Junkyard Farmgirl. it's a surprisingly wonderful video. thank. :)
Just got a plasma cutter and you gave me a lot of ideas to try out. Thanks for the video
You have a fantastic imagination. I'm an old woodworker. Had a picture framing business for many years. Home based, produced during the week, sold on the week-ends. Traveled all over NY State, PA, and New England. Worked craft shows, festivals, street fairs, flea markets, and pow wow's. Met many interesting crafters, artisans from every walk of life. The stuff you're talking about making would have sold really well.
