I can give the very highest marks to SANI Dental Group doctors, staff and facilities. I am just returned from Los Algodones for "All on4". Long story short, the work was skilled, efficient and at a price that made the impossible (in the USA) possible. Some miscellaneous thoughts off the top of my head: 1. Just like the USA has and continues to do, Mexico is improving their border crossing station. Construction at Los Algodones entering Mexico is well under way. Expect to have luggage and bags searched, for them to go thru an x-ray machine. Expect more car searches entering Mexico too, I saw that being done. The x-ray machine and metal detector to walk thru were being installed the week of my trip. DO NOT mess around going into or coming out of Mexico, pay attention to the posted regulations before you cross over AND as you cross back. As a long time traveler my habit before a trip is I empty my suitcase , open every pocket and compartment and shake it out. Inspect carefully before you pack. No firearms, not a single item of ammunition, nothing else that is banned. 2. Sidewalks can be uneven in Los Algodones. Ups and downs, sudden changes from concrete to whatever tile the business decided to cover their portion of the sidewalk with. For most people it is hardly noticeable. But for elderly, mobility problems, just pay attention to your footing. I did see a few elderly folks using rolling-walkers or electric mobility scooters, and managing. 3. I got evaluated and a price in person first then made my appointment several weeks later for the work. What I did not get on the written estimate were the extras they offered to cover in the total price, which were very significant for me financially. Make sure everything is on paper. All it was in the end was a bit embarrassing to have to remind the cashier office of the details, then they checked with who saw me the first day and all was quickly worked out. It was all done very friendly as is all they do there. My fault for not thinking to ask for certain details to be on the record. 4. I stayed at the Cielito hotel in the Mediplaza, which is directly connected and mere yards to SANI Dental. All rooms are on the second floor, no elevator. Whatever hotel you select, be certain you know such details. I had no difficulty hauling my suitcase up to the room but I could imagine some people need a hotel with ground floor rooms, or an elevator. 5. Tips. Take notice in stores there are often tip jars and tip boxes with the employee's name on it. This is because they earn very little and tips are an important source of income. So, make a point of having $1 bills and do tip the friendly hard working people in pharmacies and other shops. 6. Crossing back on foot can be a long wait in line, be ready for it. There is a long wide walkway with a shade awning. It can back up for from 1 to 2 hours in the busiest months, which means winter. I have not been there in the hot times but other visitors told me the lines are shorter (I return in September, not looking forward to the heat then!). Whatever time of year be sure to have water to drink. There are no public restrooms tho, so do keep that in mind. Expect locals to be hawking souvenirs along the line. Expect some poor women, either elderly or young women with a baby sleeping in a sling, to politely walk along with a small woven basket or cup seeking money. Yes, I give to them too. Another reason to carry plenty $1 bills, or more so if that is your charitable leanings. But no one expects you to give anything, no obligation. 7. If you cannot stay on your feet for long or must travel in warmer months, do not go on foot. There are often shuttles operated by dental practices. Ask about them when you first call dental offices. I saw at least two such passenger vans for SANI Dental, another for I think the Smile Center. Finally, to end this stream of thought, I want to say these two things. First, even with cost of travel it is worth it, the savings are simply that big. Second, I was surprised to learn that foreigners getting dental care there pays for locals in Mexico receiving dental care too. What we cannot afford in the USA or Canada, but can afford in Mexico, subsidizes dental care that Mexican clinics provide to the local people. Personally, I think that is very cool indeed.
